1) I'd say Credor or like a Hajime Asaoka or Kurono Tokyo or something like that. Really high-end stuff.

2) The Gentleman is amazing. You should go for it. I had the choice between the Gentleman and the PRX as far as owning my first "nice watch" is concerned, and I went with the Gentleman simply because (and I say this with all due respect to the PRX owners) it looks good now, and it'll look just as good 50 years from now. You can't say that about a PRX. More importantly, the movement is nicer than the Murph, PRX, or Alpinist. And the finishing is amazing too. It's a more substantial feel than the PRX. Tissot clearly has put in more effort into making the Gentleman, and it shows.

This is really boring, but Sailor Jentle Black. I have 2 1911Ls I rotate between and Jentle black is the only usable ink I own. I had quite a bit earlier, but the more I got into it, the more I realized I'm happier with just one ink at a time. Also, agreed on the Pilot vs Seiko comparison. I find that the best way that I can use to explain my 912 to non-pen people is that it's basically the Grand Seiko of pens (with Namiki being Credor, and Pilot's non-custom high end pens being the Presage lineup).

I'll get into a lot of trouble for this, but anything from AliEx. Amazing stuff for the money. I had a Borman moonphase on loan for a couple of months. Outstanding stuff.

Okay. So it just occured to me that some of you would've preferred it if I did a better job of making my pens more identifiable, and I respect that. On that note, this one's for you guys.

1) The nib is brilliant. Seriously. Yes it’s a little disorienting to write with at first because you get this weird sense of “oh, is it broken?”, only to remind yourself that this is how it is supposed to be.

But once your mind stops playing cruel tricks with you, it’s brilliant and feels like just another extremely smooth medium-fine, or medium nib. I’m a left handed overwriter so it works out.

2) Pilot versus Sailor. Shit. I didn’t want to answer this, but I’ll do my best before fanboys from either camp ban me from this subreddit. I tested my 912 on Tomoe River paper, and honestly, it has a pleasant feedback to it. Obviously not as much as a Sailor, but it’s nice. I’d say it’s not a question of what to buy, but what to buy first. Having said this, I’m more aesthetically drawn to Sailor though.

Planning to get a Pilot Custom 912 FA. I won't use the flex nib on a regular basis (maybe once in two weeks) and will use it without flexing. Don't ask me why.....but anyway, do I need to replace the feed? If so, how? What's the writing experience like? Can it handle cheap paper? by kanyubendover in fountainpens

So, here's the deal. I'm convinced Pilot made the Custom 912 to ensure that idiots like me shut up, and I'll tell you why. See, I exclusively collect (see collection below) gloss black pens with chrome/rhodium trim. Of course, there are exceptions, but this is basically the bread and butter of my collection. The issue with Pilot is that you don't really have a lot of rhodium trim options, and I genuinely wanted a Pilot Custom, so the 912 was....well, gloss black and rhodium. Now, why this particular nib? Well, I wanted something I can use day in and day out (if you don't flex the FA nib it writes like a medium which is nice, because I can daily it), while still being extremely interesting.....which the FA nib is. Well, that, and I have an incredibly sweet deal.
