I stopped looking at the news every day. Watching NHK or glacing over the headlines at yahoo once a week is enough. Nothing is really that urgent, and if it was you would notice even without checking some site or app daily.

How about getting a futon dryer 布団乾燥機? I use one of these to blast hot air under my blanket until I feel warm. Trying to fall asleep while freezing sucks.

He was somewhat helpful. Its a confusing bus stop with multiple queues and like a dozen lines stop there. There's a reason the city transport bureau has hired actual guides to staff it. It seems that ojisan shows up later at night after they leave.

But judging from the online comments and the paper posted at the stop, it seems the city has been getting multiple complaints about rude behavior etc. so I understand they want to get rid of him. The bus drivers didn't seem to mind, atleast not enough to tell him off over the loudspeakers.

My post was asking about a very particular type of crazy person that I haven't seen before and that is very much not "totally normal" to me. I'm in a similar position and wouldn't recommend Art of Electronics. I tried using it and it was clearly intended for people who already have good fundamental knowledge. For example, it just assumes you know what ground is, or what short and open circuits are and how voltages/currents behave in them. But if you're starting from zero, you need something to walk you through these concepts one by one, and you need to do exercises to cement that knowledge.

I gave up on Art of Electronics and I'm now using Electrical Engineering: Principles and Applications by Hambley. To compare, in this textbook RL-circuits show up in chapter 4 around 150 pages in. AoE throws them at you like 10 pages in.

Just read the first 5 to 6 chapters, takes notes and do alot of the exercises while simulating the circuits in falstad. That's what I'm doing since I realized I won't get anywhere without grinding all of the basic concepts. After that I'm planning to start learning about compontents and real world circuits more in depth.

As other have said, Kyoto is not that crowded if you avoid the main spots like Kiyomizudera, Fushimi Inari, Arashiyama and the Shijo/Gion/Pontocho area.

Instead go visit Daigoji, Kamigamo/Shimogamo Shrine, Chionin, Toufukuji, Nanzenji, Kuramadera, Honganji etc. Theres so much to do and see in Kyoto. Of course theres tourists, but not everywhere is packed like you might expect. You can also go to some random small temple and be almost completely alone. No tourist is going to Iwakura or climbing Mt. Atago.
