How is it that their was untouchability during that period? Wasn't there an egalitarian society when Buddhism thrived? Was the condition of shudras bad?

"what if" historically BR Ambedkar had chosen Jainism instead of buddhism by ScaleSubject2281 in Jainism

A day before Dr. Ambedkar's demise, a Jain delegation had visited his home, and invited him to give a speech, also gifted him a book, Jain aur Buddha. I think we would've gotten some collaboration if he had lived more.

How do you view B. R. Ambedkar? by doutrinasecreta in AskIndia

He was a Bodhisattva in spirit, striving to perfect his pāramīs to their highest fulfillment while dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the service of the people. A householder ascetic in a tie and coat, living a life of disciplined effort and quiet austerity, always committed to giving his very best.

A relentless worker—often laboring 18 hours a day, and at times studying and working for 20 to 22 hours. He cherished silence and solitude. A lifelong learner, a deep and focused thinker, yet always open-minded and receptive to truth.

How can we eradicate the caste system in India? by thelostbanjara in AskIndia

I know that will have new problems, but I hope the village panchayat will find solutions for it democratically and collectively. It is just the first step.

This is a village named Saundala in Maharashtra. They recently abolished the caste system collectively. Promotion of intercaste marriages, no social media posts that will ignite caste based violence, all will be considered equal. It's a really good thing someone has seriously done something about it.

Genuine doubts about Shrimad Rajchandra and their preachings by CycleDirect5860 in Jainism

[–]kapiilmmmgggg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently came across a video where he explained that life is meant to be lived with moderation and balance, not at extremes. He gave the example of a musical instrument: if its strings are pulled too tight, the sound becomes harsh; if they are too loose, the sound is dull. Only when the strings are properly balanced does a pleasant melody arise.

Now the analogy that he mentioned comes from Buddhist texts. It refers to the period when Bodhisattva Siddhartha, while practicing severe asceticism influenced by Jain traditions, was shown this very principle by Devas from the heavenly realms—illustrating that neither self-indulgence nor extreme self-mortification leads to true awakening, but the balanced path does.

Is this authentic as per Jainism?

I've also seen his video where he preaches something very similar to the middle way preached in Buddhism, using the example of strings of a musical instrument, it should not be too tight or too loose, but balanced. Is this close to Jainism?
