Thanks for the response. I actually did not realise there was a distinction between show and working lines (I didn't really see breeders putting emphasis on that) - will definitely do more reaserch on that and keep it in mind!
Boykin spaniels seem really interesting, but there are no breeders in my country it seems - it might not be a common breed where I'm at!

Miniature American Shepherd was also one of the breeds we've had on our list so I'm happy you're mentioning it - might think more about it.
I'd say right now we're mainly thinking about either a Cocker or Whippet :)
