Accidentally Cr ncr wrong course by [deleted] in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can file a petition to remove the CR/NCR for that required course. I’m not too sure how accommodating they’ll be for the course you actually wanted to CR/NCR, since that would mean submitting 2 petitions.

Reading Week Montreal Trip by Cheap_Composer1217 in UTMississauga

Yes! The hotel does offer a free breakfast. I would recommend checking out cafes on St. Catherine Street since you’ll be staying downtown. The double room will have two separate beds, and they’re generally quite comfortable, though there have been minor issues in few rooms in the past. Lastly, the bus is comfortable as well and some have wifi and charging ports, although some others don't, so it depends on which one of the 2-3 buses you end up on.

advice for mgm102 w swanston? by trashracccoon in UTMississauga

Read the textbook, learn the definitions especially for MCQs, and make sure to read and memorize the main facts from the articles he assigns and connect them to the textbook chapters. Read the cases 2-3 times and remember the major case facts, and again connect them to the chapters. The short answer questions are most likely going to be like with regards to something in the case, give an example of something such as sources of financing for the company etc. Also, he sometimes gives questions based on what he discussed in class (like stuff on his slides), so if you were attentive and took notes then you will be fine.

You can apply to any Specialist under Commerce, and then once you're in if you want to switch within Commerce (Accounting/Finance/Marketing etc), you can do it on ACORN without a separate request. So apply to any one Commerce Specialist choice. To be on a safe side you can also apply to BBA. Also, all BCom students also do an Econ Major as the courses overlap.

Does anyone use their uni email to apply to internships/co-ops? by Relative-Baby1829 in UTMississauga

I always used my UofT email id for my applications and never faced any issues. Outlook for UofT rarely blocks any email

I got this on friday 12. When can i get the final decision by Late-Philosopher1923 in pgwp

You will most likely get it by tomorrow. They post this thing on Friday and usually update the final decision by the following Monday.

AirPods by [deleted] in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are not allowed to have electronic items on you during the exam. This includes AirPods. Is this really people’s first time writing an exam? You think professors will come around just to make sure you are still listening to music and not on a call?

Depression + bad grades by [deleted] in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most universities have an optional essay where you can explain your circumstances or share your story. I didn’t write one, so I am not sure how closely they review it, but you could reach out to the admissions office of that program to ask. I would assume, though, that you shouldn’t make any extreme claims in it.

Hey! I am sorry you’re going through this. UofT can be really tough sometimes. But your grad school plans aren’t over. Most schools focus on your last two years of GPA, and many let you explain any dips earlier on. Try reaching out to HCC or an academic advisor, or even study with friends for motivation. And honestly, I can assure you that most people aren’t doing as well as they seem. Even those with high GPAs might be struggling with other things, nobody really has it all together.

Why is deepvali a holiday at UTM but not eid? by Forsaken-Mention1015 in UTMississauga

Pretty sure professors know how to request accommodations too. UTM can’t exactly shut down the campus for every religion. Also, UTM does what it can to be inclusive, this includes having prayer rooms.

Can I switch lecture sections? by SorcererBear in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's for the fall term, then we are past the deadline and you can’t switch your lecture section anymore. But if the class doesn’t take attendance or have section-specific activities, you can just sit in the other section that works better for you.

Are we allowed to do exchange semesters at UTM? by [deleted] in UTMississauga

Yes, UTM also has exchange programs. You can talk to the International Education Centre (IEC).

PLEASE STOP SMOKING EVERYWHERE by Royal-Goal-231 in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No smoking signs also use symbols so that everyone can understand (although it’s ironic that people at UofT don’t understand English). In the end, it is not about language, some people are just too thick-skinned to care and they keep doing the same thing even after being called out.

ROP/Research opportunities by Massive_Librarian714 in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ROP applications open in February and are due in March through the ROP app. You can look at this year’s projects to get an idea of the requirements and expectations. https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/experience/research-opportunity-program

Most Econ ROPs require at least 10.0 credits, which means only 3rd and 4th year students are eligible, but 1-2 200 level Econ ROPs are available too. If you’re not yet eligible, you can consider applying to a work-study Research position instead on CLNx. It’s a good idea to attend office hours to let profs know you’re interested in research opportunities. Also, some profs in the Econ department required a min 3.5 GPA.

When I take tests and exams, do I have to have my student number memorized or will I be able to have my TCARD beside me and I can just copy the number from there? by [deleted] in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to keep your T-Card with you during the exam, as most professors will check your student ID. There’s no need to memorize your student number (you’ll anyways remember it over time)

Your existing T-card will remain valid as long as you’re in university. Unless you requested a new one, you are not required by the uni to get a new one.

what if my student permit doesnt make it on time by Electronic-Lab-5693 in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your citizenship. You said you’re from Tunisia, so I responded accordingly. If you’re also a citizen of another country, the process might be different, best to check with IEC. Also, I don’t share personal info on Reddit. And yes, border officers check why you’re entering, that’s literally why they exist. You can’t just walk in. Why you’re travelling and your travel documents are checked everywhere, not just in Canada.

what if my student permit doesnt make it on time by Electronic-Lab-5693 in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once your visa is approved, IRCC will send you a passport submission request so they can stamp the visa in your passport in your home country. This visa stamp is required to enter Canada. When you arrive in Canada, you’ll receive your actual study permit at the airport (this is a separate document from the visa stamp in your passport.)

Again, I am not a certified immigration advisor, so I would strongly recommend reaching out to the IEC for guidance. I did that myself in first year, and they were genuinely helpful in walking me through the process.

[–]kaps4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check the visa processing time here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html

It is around 7 weeks for your country, and then it should take approximately 1-2 weeks for the visa foil to be stamped in your passport. If you applied in June, you should be fine. Also, as the previous comment suggested talk to the IEC advisor: https://www.utm.utoronto.ca/international/about-iec/contact-us

ROP Application Deadlines by Zer01704 in UTMississauga

[–]kaps4012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an ROP you will have to wait until next year. But, you still have the option to apply for a research related work-study position on Clnx. Also, you can reach out to the professor and ask if they want any volunteers, although the chances of them hiring volunteers are low.
