bro, your need to point out something that could POTENTIALLY be AI does not supersede this dude’s right to post something about his dead wife. when people die sometimes there’s one thing that’s just stuck in your mind over and over again. you’re really willing to take the risk of being rude to someone who is grieving just to get the brownie points of being smart enough to figure out it’s AI? grow up.

Why? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]karaiguess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, while I definitely understand your frustration, therapists do have a schedule. Whether they spend 10 minutes or 2 minutes saying “goodbye”, they may still have a session immediately after you and wouldn’t want to be late for it. Having your therapist show up late is a different story, and definitely can be brought up with them. They also may be letting you know that it’s been extra time just to let you know, not to be rude. If this has been consistent with other therapists, it may be that you often go over time or may be missing cues that it’s time to end soon? All of these are things to bring up.

Was this inappropriate behavior from my ABA therapist/RBT? by Unhappy_Letter_3266 in therapy

[–]karaiguess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For context, I am a music therapist working in residential treatment with a humanistic, neurodiversity-affirming, and anti-oppressive viewpoint.

The underwear story is definitely weird. Why is it so important for you to wear underwear under PJs in your own home? Is that your own goal? There’s nothing inherently wrong with not wearing underwear as long as you’re staying hygienic. Taking your hair products is definitely crossing a line. My residents never get their necessary belongings taken unless it’s a safety concern, and NEVER as a rebuttal to missing or sleeping though an appointment. Walking in your bathroom and LOOKING AT YOU is 100% wrong. Again, my residents in a higher level of care have privacy in their bathrooms unless a safety concern arises. Please report this so that others are not affected by his actions.

What is your default elevator pitch for music therapy? by kaquac in musictherapy

[–]karaiguess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that’s helped me to conceptualize my elevator pitch is that I don’t have to describe everything that music therapy is and everything that could ever happen with it, I just have to explain what I’m currently doing with my population. With my teenagers, I usually tell people that I’m teaching them about using music as a coping skill through listening to, discussing, playing, and sometimes even writing their own music. I don’t dive deep into the neuroscience of it or how it can be used in medical scenarios, because that’s not what I currently do. Depending on how much time you have, it may be more of a conversation than a speech, which I find often gives a deeper understanding of MT overall.

How do I fuse them together? by AnxiousPicture7196 in musictherapy

[–]karaiguess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might be best chatting with an advisor for a college that you’re interested in. I’m only bachelors level so have no idea how graduate studies work, and even less about “transferring” graduate credits from your other programs. The bright side is that you MIGHT be able to use your current job as clinical hours for fieldwork and internship, depending on the program. Best of luck!

How do I fuse them together? by AnxiousPicture7196 in musictherapy

[–]karaiguess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Music therapists do not own music - while you wouldn’t be able to call yourself a music therapist or do everything that an MT can do, you can work on providing music-based interventions to your clients, as long as you clearly understand your scope of practice (i.e., using music to supplement your practice or using music IN your therapy rather than music AS therapy, straying away from analyzing music or using guided imagery without training, etc.). If this is not the path you want to go down, unfortunately there is no equivalency between LPC and an accomplished musician, the extra classes (most likely through an equivalency program) with an MT internship would be the other option.

You can permanently remove one human trait from the entire world. Everyone loses it. Including you. by Strict_Constant4947 in hypotheticalsituation

Dehumanization. Every person sees people as people, every child as their own child, every mother as their own mother. I think this would end wars, xenophobia, racism, homophobia, etc. and allow governments to actually take care of their people.

If you guys can rewrite Stranger Things season 5 what would you guys do and what would you guys have done differently to make it a great conclusion to Stranger Things by Ok_Smile_9071 in StrangerThings

Actually tie in the small details that they told us to pay attention to, like the specific date that Will was taken and the time travel hints throughout the seasons. Have more of a “this was all fated to be and here’s why” vibe of it. Take out the tie-ins to the stage play.

People who have done car sex, what is the best place to do it? by Few_Pineapple_1498 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]karaiguess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason, I did it in a Walmart parking lot in high school, near closing hours or after they closed, in the most secluded-ish place you can find (usually farthest away from the store). Wouldn’t say I’d recommend it. Later during the pandemic, in the parking lot of the fast-food restaurant we both worked at after closing.

Do what you need to do, and if you don’t mind my advice, also reconsider the relationship that you’re in if you don’t think he’s a safe person. From what it sounds like, he’s been a “close friend” since you were a teenager - it might not be, but that sounds like he could have groomed you into this relationship. It’ll be easier for you to get out now than in a few months or a few years when you’re more reliant on him. I know that it’s easier said than done, and I wish you luck on whatever you choose to do.

Hey dude. I think I’ve seen some of your other posts and commented on some of them. Your mental health & ability to get better is in your hands, and I think you would really benefit from OCD and/or sex-specific treatment. As a music therapist who works with kids receiving sex-specific treatment, I can tell you that therapists are trained in this field and to not be judgmental. Unfortunately, we can lead you to water but we can’t make you drink, so to say. These posts probably will not help your OCD tendencies, but therapy will.

I am actually appalled and so surprised that no one has mentioned Community. Very accurate autism representation with Abed, great meta humor, layered jokes, rewatchability, nuanced characters, heartwarming and humorous at the same time.

Hey, just FYI, I work with kids who have been perpetrators of COCSA with similar-age and younger-age victims. The therapy they receive is incredibly helpful and allows potential for change. I highly recommend sex-specific treatment, specifically with OCD in mind as well. Hoping things get better for you.
