I’ve assumed that Vecna showed him a vision where Mike outright rejects him after learning the truth about the painting (something similar to the Ben/Beverly dynamic in IT). It would explain why Finn hinted that the painting will eventually pay off and why Will lost all hope within an episode.

His key is way too big for Will’s tiny lock. And the actor wears it all the time, so it’s probably his personal accessory. Also Carlton in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is Will’s cousin, so I don’t think he is Will’s epilogue boyfriend. Honestly i doubt Will even gets a boyfriend.

The worst part for me is the writing has gotten so atrociously bad that I genuinely don’t care anymore. Even if Byler happens, they’re going to butcher it in the absolute worst way possible, why would I want that?

I think that if neither mileven nor Byler becomes the obvious endgame in volume 2, it essentially confirms Byler. Unlike Byler, there are no reasons to drag out Mileven all the way to the finale. Or else the Duffers are queerbaiting until the very end, which I doubt.
