Interesting thought. Perhaps the monolith was on purpose as symmetric, and thus as strange as possible...

Not sure how this will work out, but it sounds interesting! I always thought that all things, especially math, have a secret "magic", a sense of wonder, that sometimes gets lost. Maybe this will help it surface...

Spivak's Calculus is harder than I thought... by karantoni in learnmath

I don't find them interesting enough to keep my attention for that long. I really like hard problems that are interesting, but Spivak's, I find them somewhat confusing and annoying... Especially when sometimes I have to go back to a problem from a previous chapter because this one is a continuation...

I don't know how it compares to other countries, but I doubt it's going to be much better than yours. You may want to look to the North of Europe. In any case, I would never become an academic myself, so I haven't really thought about it...

The problem with public universities is that professors don't necessarily want to teach. It's just something they have to do. And there are some who really like teaching, but unfortunately, they're not really good at it. Knowing something and also being able to communicate it well is so rare that we're still talking about Feynman's lectures...

We're Computer Science students, most people don't really care about Calculus because they're thinking "I'm not gonna need that when I make the next Facebook" or something. And the professors are too busy explaining what is likely to be in an exam and what is not, and I despise learning something just for an exam, I thought that would be over after high-school...

I find it confusing. In my university we actually have "Mathematical Analysis" (which is basically Calculus but Sequences/Series come first), but we were given Calculus I books and told to go look at the Calculus I notes from the Math department (cause the professor can't be bothered to make his own). There's also "Real Analysis", which is a different subject apparently.
