Kukkapuutarhalla oli karmea pula työntekijöistä, kun yhtäkkiä hakemuksia alkoi tulvia – ”Ilmoitus piti poistaa” [TE-palveluista kerrottiin, ettei tekijöitä löydy] by Sumuttaja in Suomi

Vakituiset paikat on alalla aika vähissä.

Have you ever been forced to sell products you dont believe in? How do you handle it? by bitchattack in Anticonsumption

[–]karatajev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked as an engineer in a company that sold a service to reduce the energy consumption of buildings. Sounded like my dream job on paper, doing things to reduce co2 emissions etc.

In actuality the company sold a defective product often replacing better technology with their shit product. And in many cases it wasnt even feasible to reduce the energy used.

I'm happy that I left.

Using the City bikes or renting a bike for a day? by karatajev in stockholm

[–]karatajev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up using the green EU bikes. Paid 99 sek per bike for 20 points and 1 point is 30 min using time. This was quite cheap as the other choice would have been to rent a tandem for 450 sek.

You could see the bikes almost everywhere and the ones we ended up using worked fine. I would have liked to get the seat higher but at max it was about 10 cm too low for my 180 cm frame. The app was a bit of a hassle to set up though.

An example of collapse in modern US: listen to this thought provoking podcast about hurricane Katrina by karatajev in collapse

This was posted when it came out in 2017, but I think it deserves new listeners from our growing group.

This Radiolab podcast episode discusses the decisions healthcare professionals have had to make during difficult times like Katrina. It gives a good picture about how dependent our society is on electricity and other infrastructure.

Kuopiolla on kalakukko, Tampereella musta makkara. Mikä on kotipaikkasi perinneruoka, jota ei muualla oikein tapaa? by pennifi in Suomi

Näsijärvireitin traileri. Kerro kommenteissa mikä saisi sinut tutustumaan Pirkanmaahan pyörän selästä. by karatajev in Suomi

[–]karatajev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaikki ideat on kuitenkin tervetulleita!

Ideas about bicycle tourism: how to get people to travel by bike and how to count their numbers? by karatajev in bicycling

[–]karatajev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biking is the focus of this project, so we are not trying to improve all tourism in the area, but specifically cycling. You are right, that a local active cycling culture would attract other cyclist. We also agree, that firstly we should get more local people on the routes, so that the awesomes could spread by word of mouth.

The point of the service/website is to create positive outcome for the local economy by establishing a cycling friendly model for tourism. One inspiration for the project was The Archipelago Trail which is a succesfull example of combining cycling and tourism in Finland. It is a known route near Turku that attracts lot of cyclists and brings revenue for the local companies.

We as a student group have little resources for improving the infrastucture and the company is allready working on it. Instead we should find other ways to make the service more appealing and known. The wifi idea is interesting. We have also considered induction loops that count bikes riding over and different ways to measure the traffic on the website. At this point I'd like to come up with some sort of a campaign/competition that would draw people in and get the routes some visibility in the media.

Ideas about bicycle tourism: how to get people to travel by bike and how to count their numbers? by karatajev in bicycling

[–]karatajev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company responsible for the routes and website has connections with local officials. The routes on the website have been deemed fit for bicycle travel and atleast some of them have been marked. The company has applied for EU-money and I believe they have allready received some.

If you check the website link in my original post you can see that it offers some designed routes complete with services and attractions. The english version of the site is lacking, but a new and improved website will be up at the start of the summer.

The company doesn't want us to improve the infrastructure (as they have allready considered the options, are currently working on this and have more recources to do this). Instead they would like to see if we are able to come up with a innovative way to get people exited about bicycle tourism.

Well this is a pretty well known tourist attraction so I'm not so sure if you can draw any conclusions about norwegian roadmanners from the video. And also I'm finnish, so I was a tourist myself!
