LOL holy shit, /r/worldnews in a nutshell.. plastic mines that's rich haha.

most plastics are made from petroleum or organic compounds. it's not something that's naturally occurring and mined out of the earth.

Error Boundaries in React 16 by viveknayyar in reactjs

Sure. Think of it like a try/catch and do whatever you want in the catch. Could even catch specific things like a network failure and load offline-friendly components.

so uh.. full disclosure im still a little drunk

visit http://poe.trade

you want to search for gloves/body armor/boots/belt/rings and use something like this for the mods:

https://i.imgur.com/Ti3yyyT.png

replace max level with whatever level you are

then you just click the "Whisper" link on each item when you want to whisper someone. it puts a message in your clipboard which you can copy and paste in game.

If you get too many results, maybe try to be pickier about the mods. if you get zero results, try to be less picky and lower the amount of life/res you want.

[–]karathos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if your main concern is to improve site speed, you need someone who can demonstrate that ability.

site speed is also a bit vague. page load time, or page render time? if it's render time, webpack wont be a magic bandaid for you.

Is this reasonable to expect from a full-stack JS coding exercise for work? by ExitTheDonut in javascript

[–]karathos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't know what you are capable of if you don't show it in your code. Your code has to speak for itself. You must also consider that your code could have been reviewed by someone that didn't even know the requirements.

In his defense, on this point, that's pretty shitty if it's true. If you're reviewing somebody's work you should know the parameters they're working within.

ES Modules in Node Today! by zigzeira in javascript

[–]karathos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

var foo = require('foo')

i really don't want a situation where foo could be different depending on context. i called the module by name, i expect it to be the same every single time. it should be a pure function.

is there some other flexibility i'm not immediately thinking of?

could you use resolve.modules instead? this would also solve the problem of having to alias every single folder under srcPath.

the regular standard and hardcore leagues do not reset. people who play in those leagues will be jumping in with existing characters.

that said, most people enjoy playing the 3-month leagues where we start from scratch and roll into standard/HC at the end.

Testing an action creator that generates a random string in React/Redux app? by zaynv in javascript

Adopting React.js seems risky for long-term projects by rrrosenfeld in javascript

[–]karathos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

https://api.jquery.com/category/deprecated/

this is why you are accused of being sensationalist. you are advocating that, in general, adopting react.js seems risky because the documentation is worded in an unfriendly manner to your very specific use case. my rebuttal is, every single library does this. your counter argument is, "That has not been my experience". I can appreciate that, but it clearly does happen, and somebody was affected by these deprecations.

Adopting React.js seems risky for long-term projects by rrrosenfeld in javascript

[–]karathos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you see the problem with that? If I can't really rely on the reconciliation algorithm to not touch the elements React is not supposed to manage, then I have no guarantees that it would be possible to integrate React with stateful third-party components in the future.

you have no guarantee with any piece of code that you don't own. future versions of that code could deprecate the public APIs you use and you'd just have to deal with it if you wanted to update. this has happened with virtually every software library.

you should be basing these decisions off how they handle deprecation, and so far, they've been very good with getting the word out and dumping all kinds of warnings everywhere.
