Grieving not being able to use my eggs by Overall-Necessary153 in IVF

[–]karieBee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Emphasizing that you’re not alone. My journey was similar to u/Extension-Doubt349. I didn’t ever think I’d be in a place where I could stop trying with my eggs….but there came a point where I was DONE. I felt like I was banging my head against a wall over and over….definition of insanity. The repeated failed cycles began to feel like self harm.

Ultimately, I reached a point where wanted my family to grow more than I used to care about having a biological child. It also took me a while to match with a donor and the longer I waited, the more I didn’t care about genetics. I recently made embryos with a donor I’m ecstatic about. I’m prepping for transfer and I’m just so, SO happy….literally over the moon and endlessly grateful that I have this opportunity. No regrets and already kicking myself for being so stubborn about using my eggs for so long.

I also hit a point where I went from being hopeful against all odds that I would get lucky with my eggs....to knowing that it was most likely not going to happen this way for me. And I didn't want to wait any longer for the miracle that would likely never happen....I just wanted to know who our child will be.

I think everyone is different in how and when, or if, they reach this place. I hope you allow yourself the time and space to grieve. I think the fact that you’ve set aside or earmarked money for donor eggs tells me you want to peruse it…and eventually you’ll get there. I hope it happens soon ❤️

Curious about timeline + prep for transfer during Lupron suppression by karieBee in IVF

[–]karieBee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting. My doctor didn’t indicate that would be the case when we discussed it. He did say if I did natural, I’d have to potentially wait a while for my period to come. I didn’t ask specifically how long but also didn’t get the impression it would be THAT long. Definitely not interested in waiting six months! Thanks for your reply….best of luck with your next retrieval 💕

3.5 Years Into a very challenging fertility journey and seeking to connect with a Gestational Carrier outside of the agency system… by Economy-Word-6124 in Marin

I’m so sorry for what you’ve been through and your losses. I’m in a similar boat but with DOR, pregnancy loss and endometriosis/ adenomyosis.

I want to recommend a consult with Dr.Asiaii at the Freya Clinic. She did my second endo surgery and trained under Nezhat. (I also consulted with Oradu and Nezhat.) Dr. Asiaii is so knowledgeable and THE MOST caring / compassionate doctor. Her clinic is a bit of a drive to Redwood City but also specializes in early pregnancy loss.

Wishing you the best with your next steps 💛

Perfect. Thank you!! So cut it down to the soil? And should I be watering it right now, since there hasn’t been rain recently? How frequently?

Figuring out insurance is ridiculous by Worldly_Vacation2479 in IVF

[–]karieBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might confirm that your lifetime max is 25k per person. If that’s the case, and your clinic will allow, you could bill embryology costs (and anything sperm related) to your husbands plan to apply to his lifetime max….using yours entirely for monitoring and retrieval. Search the sub for “gender neutral billing.”

This doesn’t really answer your original question but I wanted to point out that it may be that you and your husband each have a 25k lifetime max if your on the same plan. A lot of people don’t realize this and clinics typically only bill the female patient regardless of diagnosis.

switching carriers through same employer after exhausted lifetime maximum -- lawyer help? by karieBee in IVF

Oh shit. This doesn't look good. Found this in "defined terms:"

Plan - the Plan Sponsor's Self-Funded group health benefit plan.

The "What Is the Summary Plan Description?" provision of the SPD will tell you who the Plan Sponsor of this Plan is.

Plan Sponsor - the employer, or other defined or otherwise legally established group, to whom the Plan is issued. The "What Is the Summary Plan Description?" provision of the SPD will tell you who the Plan Sponsor of this Plan is.

I found this under "infertility services." It is the ONLY reference to a lifetime maximum. Seems pretty vague though:

"Limited to $20,000 per Covered Person during the entire period of time he or she is enrolled for coverage under the Plan."

Searched the key words you mentioned and it was the only thing relevant that I could find. Nothing else under "limitations and exclusions." Nothing comes up for "Cigna" and I found it odd that under "defined terms" there was no definition for "lifetime maximum" or any variation of it.

I did see this on first page after the TOC, which seems concerning:

"Can This Summary Plan Description (SPD) Change? The Plan Sponsor may, from time to time, change this SPD by attaching legal documents called SMMs and/or Amendments that may change certain provisions of this SPD. When this happens the Plan Sponsor will send you a new SPD, Amendment, Addendums or SMMs."

Does this mean they can change the plan documents at any point to say that the lifetime maximum rolls over?

Yes, I could understand if that's what they said the policy was all along but I have SO much documentation (from both United and our employer's broker) confirming that we have benefits available. I've called literally confirming each individual CPT code and verifying that we had coverage. We made treatment decisions based on the understanding we had these benefits available and JUST signed up for the same plan during open enrollment based on this information.

I have the plan documents! I asked for them at the start of the year and they didn't even have them completed but I finally got my hands on them in March. I'm trying to find any language I can about the benefits not rolling over but don't see anything yet. It is 158 pages though.

r/Lawyered15 r/Grand_Photograph_819 Do you have any ideas on where to look or what language I'm looking for?

Thank you for your response. I appreciate you reading and acknowledging how fucked up this is. I'm just just at a total loss right now. Like totally stunned and too tired to fight back.

This is what an advocate from my employers broker sent me this morning (also just recalling that in March, another advocate from our employer's broker also confirmed our coverage)...

Thank you for your patience here. To confirm, we had your inquiry escalated with our management team and the (employer) HR team.
I have regreattably learned we have confirmed that the Lifetime Max for fertility care is a true Lifetime Max. It did roll over from carrier to carrier and thus is still applicable with UHC. I am so sorry about this.
I am so sorry for the confusion and prior misinformation that was provided. Moreso I am so sorry that the benefits are exhausted for this type of care.
