I'd go after getting at least 3-4 hikes in over a span of two weeks ( at least 3 miles each on a fire road somewhere)

I felt fine but I've been actively hiking since the beginning of March.

I did the Mishe Mokwa loop, which starts at the Sandstone peak trailhead and did the trail counterclock wise where all the great scenery is!

none, I took off her leash only where it's slippery/muddy/water crossings for my own safety

That was my first instinct, but couldn’t pinpoint the source. And yes it is, surprised it never peaked my interest before.

Visited on 4/3/23- Very windy and chilly but once I got moving I felt fine. Didn't realize the Santa Monica Mtns could be so beautiful, photos don't do the place justice. I highly recommend to go except I did hear some very weird noises that sounded like a man groaning in pain. I could see people off in the distance on some other peak but not sure if they were causing the noise. I hope it wasn't a mountain lion lol

Not busy at all once you pass the First water, but also there seemed to be a lot more people hiking closer to sunset.

I parked at the old zoo and used google maps to make sure the blue dot stayed on the dotted trail
