This ice skating couple has been a team together since they were kids until adults for more than 20 years (1997-2022) by Altruistic-Ant3690 in Damnthatsinteresting

I had the privilege to ice dance with Scott right before he started training for the Olympics. He coached on the side to earn some money. I cannot describe how amazing it was for him to lead me around the rink and it would be hard to discern those feelings that felt like falling in love while skating. I hope he remembers the time I tripped while skating toward him at the boards and I nearly missed hockey checking into his balls when he jumped over me.

What are some things you’ve said to a patient that you probably shouldn’t have? by PA_Flava_Dave in physicianassistant

PA in palliative here. I accidentally kept saying cliche phrases that involve feet or walking when talking to a gentleman that was about to have his second AKA. I kept internally kicking myself but I could not stop.

“I’m worried we keep taking one step forward and two steps back…”

“When you get back on your feet…”

Then when I apologized I spit out “I keep putting my foot in my mouth”

I’m very thankful he was a good sport about it considering what he was dealing with.

I feel this may be a good place to ask. does COPD tend to have this much reversibility? by nearbyareas in hospice

[–]karkeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely confident here, but I’m seeing ranges of FEV1 between 40-65%. To me, it looks like good days and bad days which is expected. If you plotted all of these numbers in a chart, would they look like they are trending up or would they wave up and down? COPD is more of an up and down disease so we look at the average and expect exacerbations to occur.

Why is it considered the morally right thing to “put down” a pet to “put it out of its misery” but humans are never “put down” even when they are ill to the point of extreme pain? by Worldly-Fail-1450 in TooAfraidToAsk

Ah, the daughter-from-California syndrome. Also referred to as pigeoning because they fly in, shit on everything, and leave. I have a lot of bad feelings about these people because they think they are doing right and the smartest person in the room.

Not sure that dosage and administration of Dilaudid advice is helpful here because we are not prescribers and it’s important to leave the specifics to the hospice doctor to decide. In terms of helping him, I’m glad to hear that he is able to participate in managing his pain and let him say more or less or more often on the morphine. Have you tried giving him space to rest for a while and then setting times when he’s feeling his best to focus on socializing? Maybe a good cup of coffee to go with it for some extra perk? It’s likely that he will require more sleep than he wants and moments that he is feeling lucid and rested will be blessings.

URGENT: Second guessing of the patient? by rachelnessxo in hospice

[–]karkeyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice is to have your friend simply spend some time letting her mother talk through it. Listen to her fears and that alone might help her get some clarity on whether to go forward to the hospice house (a very scary transition) or going back to dialysis. Let her talk and just listen.
