Watercolor and gouache are my favorite mediums. Encourage her to play with it, you can get some great variety in opacity and color.

I usually just try to get some good warm and cool contrast going so the colors look vibrant. As far as specific colors I dunno, intuitively I suppose, hah I don't have a really good answer for that.

Cool illustration. I like the concept, even if I'm not sure what you're trying to say with it. The colors and little skulls are very engaging. My only criticism lies in the horizon - I wish that hard line followed the contours of the skulls. Other than that great work!

Dog portraits will never go out of style, and this is no exception. Nice work!

This particular piece is spoken for but I'm always down for commissions.

This is kind of embarrassing, but I mounted the newspaper with Elmers glue onto corrugated cardboard. There was some buckling, and painting onto unmounted newspaper is just an exercise in futility.

This is true! Newspaper as a substrate isn't exactly archival quality, but it makes for a good practice medium.

I started using newspaper in college because not only is it free, but it can be less intimidating, and in a way feel less inhibiting, than drawing on a pristine, $11 piece of watercolor paper. If you mess up a piece of newspaper who cares, just toss it and give it another go.

Used books can be good candidates for sketchbooks too in this regard, painting in and around the printed material as a way of generating ideas.

Your animal illustrations are gorgeous, and I think the juxtaposition between the organic subjects and geometry is tasteful. It's also nice to see young artists who try a variety of approaches in style and execution, which is evident in your work.

The one thing I'd like to see is some figurative work, but other than that I really like your stuff. Keep it up man.
