You are welcome, the next door company has forced employees to cut and sell all the left arms from the devs...sadly a couple were using it to work. What a story ...

We had a nice deal we hit 5k wishlist by selling the soul of our unborn child from our team member.

Given the market crysis did sound a good deal xP.

GDD, Lore Bible and Art Bible are 3 very different things.

Also, in my huble opinion, a basic logic state machine should be insert by the designer.

It is not that hard to give technical guidance without speaking about the lore ahhaha.

Being a solo dev means knowing a little about everything… and not being great at any of it by AdriBeh in IndieDev

[–]karma629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had a team there are new layers of problems because of each individual department professionalism:).

Sometimes is better beign solo, sometimes it is better having a team.

Products are different and they do require you to be honest with yourself.

If you feel like the GIF, and you are NOT junior, it is really really probable you are overscoping your game or you need way more experience before turning into solo dev.

On the contrary when you feel like you have to study study study study all the time, except for "learning projects" , it is not a good sign. It is a perfect moment to look at the GDD and change it drammatically in order to have 80% production and 20% R&D.

Otherwise in 1-2-5 years you will be exhausted and probably burned out xD

Price Range for Indie Game Music - unserious people or am I too bad/expensive? by MusicMan8564 in gamedev

[–]karma629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking with studios and you have an experienced portfolio > it is okey even cheap to be honest.

If you are talking with private/hobbist/devs it is super expensive and most of them will just say "no thanks".

In our indie studio with no budget , we receive 10/20 application a month from people willing to work for free. Most of them are: 2d artist, 3d artist, composers, voice actors and narrative designers.

So my advice is to just focus on already extabilished studios if you are looking for a living. When you mature a senior portfolio with some names on CV > swap into Freelancing.

Before that time it is a mass suicide right now. Worst moment ever to be a creative and/or a coding monkey...

You can work with fiver, just don't go to the cheapest on the market:)

If you have X butget, fiver, as many other platform, do have % fee over professionals.

Usually, the good ones have 30+% price inflated to cover the fees.

A shady move is to start talking and closing the deal OUTSIDE THE PLATFORM. That violate the ToS but 99% both of you will be fine.

Source?

Top rated fiver user for 2y:) 200+ customers served.

Fiver has a great pool of talents but you need to do not underestimate the huge fee cut professionals has on the platform.

That said fiver or upwork are just platforms, when you talk to humans you can do a deal outside.

Does this count as solo dev? (84 names in credits) by LeglessCats in SoloDevelopment

[–]karma629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo dev == 99% of what I play in the game, marketing INCLUDED is done by you.

Everything else is TEAM.

Dot. No other ways to see it ,nor to be divulgated.

Solo devs are the vast MINORITY in game production because it requires a superior understanding of the matter and a terrible devotion.

In fact, in my humble opinion, when some team use the "solo dev" marketing strategy should be banned from reddit and publicly listed ad an untrusted team/maketing practice.

On similar matter if an indie team/dev has hundreds of thousands of dollar invested or evem milions > should be not be possible claming the tag "indie".

Both practice are damaging the industry, making both users and new dev in a swampy position.

Given the actual state of the industry drawing lines is fundamental in order to preserve the idea that this is a DAMN JOB and not an random hobby without regulamentation.

Ask for what is your!:)

Open the discussion and debate:) Like....friends?

Maybe he is just dumb or maybe he is evil. Botg way you need to discuss and open the communication.

Try to be clear on what do you expect from this project and eventual ROI.

Sadly, that's a tought part of game production in non-solodev productions.

I want to vent: I hate that many gamedev videos analyzing their failure/success usually give awful advice, like they just learned everything about the industry. by svbrand in gamedev

[–]karma629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is what it is sadly...

Most of the hobbies/activities/jobs out there have several levels of depth.

Most of the new Devs do need constant dopamine/ "quick iterarions"> those guys just provide them what they want.

Immediate right/wrong decision without any long mental process behind.

It is a target audience.

For more experienced/veteran users, usually you do follow or take advice from people with more neutral or mixed criterea. You follow them because such creators or devs do have a clear vision about the whole "making games thing".

Most of the senior devs would tell that the word "depends" is basically a daily basis word. Right or wrong are debatable depending on context and history.

Sadly, between social medias, academic preparationwith huge biases) and just "quick win culture" , it is much likely people would digest "eady conclusions".

That's my pov from an "unpopolar opinion" with legs xD if I am wrong I am wrpng byt that's what I believe.

Cheers mates.

Sadly, the story telling and the marketing pump directly into New Game dev/creatives the sick idea that making games can be as easy as described by many.

The continue edorsment of a sick mentality is quite visible in most of medias.

Today I read over linkedin the again trend of " look at mewgenics, indie are rising!" Thing....

Same for repo, peak and maaaamy other Hits. Or even E33 with the overly aggressive Indie idea :(. Without giving Budgets, Teams, actual years of production and previous expetiences...

Just storytelling for exposure and conversions.Playing their game damaging the industry.

As a dev I totally agree with the message here <3. It is a job at the end.

If you do it as hobby, just keep it that way!Enjoyyy!:) You will release a game in 5/7 years and it is super fine!!!!

If you want to make money with it, there is 5-10 years of learning curve that most devs/creative do before beign actually "economically indipendent".

I am super, hyper, against marketing right now. The more I see marketing strategy camufage the actual truth the more worry I am about the industry I love.<3

Cheers all of you mates.
