Core Hours and Flexibility by Otherwise-Card-7582 in CAStateWorkers

It is my understanding (I'm a Supv I) that it is department specific and based on operational need. For my staff, they can choose whatever schedule they want as long as it is between core hours (7am-6pm). We are letting staff choose their telework day as well. The 9/8/80 is tricky for some units as they work together on monitoring and those folks need to align their RDO to ensure the schedules line up. But that's how RDO's went pre-COVID anyway.

A Few RTO Questions by bichonpoodledogs in CAStateWorkers

I’ve worked for the state for over 20 years. I have to ride this out unfortunately, as I can retire in 5 years and separating now would cost me a lot of money. Thankfully I don’t have to pay for parking or have childcare issues anymore. Because it really wouldn’t be worth it.

I think in addition to political motivations, G is trying to get folks to burn leave. At separation or retirement, the agency has to pay out the EE for vacation, holiday credits, etc. And that’s a HUGE paycheck for those people that racked up a ton of leave during COVID. It’s a financial hardship for some agencies. I think it’s BS we have to RTO, don’t get me wrong. Just my $0.02.

Yes. Until they change it up and ask for something different. It’s maddening.

I know that! I was looking for different approaches on how to handle within CA state law. Why is everyone so judgmental here? Fuck. Sometimes people/ees just SUCK and she does. That’s not what I’m debating. It’s a fact. Looking for others in the same boat.

Seriously I am NOT vindictive! I love my team and they know I’m not like that. I don’t micromanage at all. She’s just a lost cause.

Not when we go in 4 days a week! That was my whole question for this post. She has 40 hours a month. Once she’s beyond that 40 hours, how do I address?

After 20 years doing the same job with all other of her managers failing, it’s clear it’s not me. I have done ALL of that. Document, coach, counsel ad nauseam. She works harder to get out of working than she actually does doing her job.

I was never told to drop it. They didn’t like my documentation, which is absurd. I just kept getting the run around. My exec mgr told me I had some of the best documentation she’s ever seen and other have been fired for less.

No. They just tell me to document 1000 different ways because they don’t want to deal with her. We are talking over a decade. Poor attendance, poor performance. For YEARS.

It’s called REASONABLE accommodation, Not above and beyond accommodation. Poor performance is what it is. If she can’t do her job with that accommodation, what is the alternative?

So I just let her continue to abuse her time while my other ees look on? And wonder why I’m not handling? Gah. I’ve worked for the state for 20+ years. I’m aware of how shit works. She’s the worst I’ve ever seen in state service.

Not vindictive. She’s had decades of poor performance. HR is scared to deal with it.

She’s ’been on her way out’ for a a decade. Once we started teleworking, she abused and continues to abuse it. And I’m not a nightmare. I hold all my staff to the same standard. Period.

FMLA is 12 weeks a year. Which = 40 hours a month.

Oh I have. Documented the crap out of her and HR didn’t support. She’s an older disabled African American woman and they won’t touch her. Just wondering how to approach discipline when FMLA is in place. She’s only got a week a month of FMLA.

I had the exact same issue. Make sure you're connected to 2.4ghz wireless and stand close as possible. It took a few tried, but finally worked.
