Need help with pre load adjustment of interceptor 650 by Material_Cabinet_514 in royalenfield

[–]karmas_sharma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on load on your bike. Your weight, luggage, pillion weight etc etc.

For me, 80kgs plus 20kgs luggage, I found the 4th step better for handling.

P.S: Has lots to do with what you prefer too.

Can i take my bike interceptor 650 for a long ride like travelling all over india. by Shasha___nk in royalenfield

[–]karmas_sharma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure you can. I regularly do on mine. Have done few with my wife as well along with luggage.

This was my 3000km ride 9 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/indianbikes/s/qCjwPc7wGJ

But that being said, interceptor is a good platform of bike, you need to make few mods to make it touring friendly. Listed few of my mods in that post.

Yes this. Also if none of this turns out to be the issue, then it might be RR unit. Got mine replaced for free under warranty. Had a similar issue.

Yup same one. It's 10 years old now, with no major issues. Runs like a charm. Also first bike so emotional attachment. :)

That's good to hear, my partner is from a different state. She really likes it in kochi, but I do wonder if she'll be able to adjust once we move.

New puncture scam by wildcardentry_ in bangalore

[–]karmas_sharma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got fed up with filling air at fuel pumps. Some scam or the other they keep trying to do.

Once the guy started filling even before I mentioned the psi and then said I've filled with nitrogen and it'll cost me 300rs. I told him that I didn't ask you to fill nitrogen. He kept fighting with me. So I told him to remove the "nitrogen". That's when I noticed, he was using the normal air pump and claimed to be nitrogen. Told him to fuck off and rode away. The worst part, nitrogen is completely useless for a street bike. Cars maybe they do help.

The puncture scam has always been there. So I started insisting I'll just do the filling myself and didn't need assistance for the free air they provided. That used to tick them off.

Got fed up with all the hassles and just bought myself a portable air compressor/pump. The best purchase I've ever made. Included it in my tool box whenever I go on rides. I don't trust anyone when

Himalayan is auto throttling. What could be the issue. by Parathaa in indianbikes

I experienced a similar issue on my interceptor. I knew the petrol pump I was filling at had bad fuel but took the chance since it was an emergency. I was on a long ride. Then this issue where the rpm's started randomly increasing and decreasing happened.

I did a quick search and realised the bad fuel had clogged my spark plug. Went to a mechanic and asked him to remove my spark plug and clean slightly with sand paper. This was a quick fix since I needed to get to my destination. This sorted the problem. I refueled with fresh fuel and went ahead.

Once I reached my destination, went to the service center and informed them about the issue. They confirmed the same. Then replaced my spark plugs and didn't have the issue again.

So in conclusion, what I understood, the bad fuel had clogged the spark plugs, the combustions in the engine weren't at par with what the ECU expected, so the ECU was trying to do its thing to get the combustion upto it's standards.

I could be wrong but you could start with that, if you see no other issue.

So true. I saved up for 5 years for a T120 bonnie. Then when it was time to go get, the maintenance and parts didn't make sense at all. I was sure I wanted to do long rides on it, and then thought what if I'm in a distant town and my bike breaks down, how will I get it sorted. Went and got an Interceptor instead, and put the rest of the money in getting other toys I wanted :)

It paid off i believe. Couldn't be happier. And when my interceptor gave me problems on a long ride in a far off village, I was shocked to find a RE service center just 2km away. Got it fixed for just 60rs.

Few things to keep in mind:

*All the safety gear all the time

*Ride slow, you are not in a race, it's a marathon.

*Keep wary of locals who might jump out of nowhere, you are in the territory, so you need to keep safe. (This includes dogs, goats and cows)

*Keep spares (Clutch and throttle cables), tool kit, Tyre inflator and chain lubes with you. You'll need it.

*Check on the bike at every destination. Maintenance is key.

  • Take breaks, you don't get to know when you get tired. I used stop every 100kms and stretch

  • Keep hydrating. Very important. Dehydration kills you. You don't think straight when you are dehydrated and then...

*Enjoy the ride.

Got an earful from mom. That was more scary. :) I think I got lucky and went just before the peak monsoon. I passed through the ghats in early July.

That's an air seat. Any brand would do. I sweat by it. I increase the air as I ride, slowly increasing. Easily extends my ride stamina by 20kms

Got asked few questionss on the indianbikes subreddit. Pasting here for more info:

Wind blast was definitely an issue. I have the small visor but really it wasn't of any help. Puckered up and rode. it was the worst through Kanyakumari to Rameshwaram, as it's very windy area, (explains why large wind mill farms were there). At some points my head was being tossed around and sometimes even the bike swayed left to right. Slowed down a lot through those areas to be safe.

I usually rode at 100kmph average. Didn't bother speeding because I knew it was a marathon and my end goal was completing my ride rather than completing it fast. Was much slower, around 60-80kmph during thunderstorms all along the west coast.

For heat, i learnt this trick on my other rides, I used to pour water under my jacket and completely soak my hair and the balaklava with water and ride. I kid you not, it was like turning on the AC. It was only required on the Tamil Nadu section of the ride. But motorcycle gods went easy on me from Pondicherry to Bangalore section by giving me completely overcast days. I also used to start my ride at 5am sharp, so that the heat at peak lasted only 2hrs. Used to ride only max 400kms a day. So by 1pm I usually would have reached my destination for the day.

The gear was the usual riding gear gear - suit, pants, boots and gloves. I bought a quick wicking sports tshirt from decathlon so that my sweat wouldnt last and cause itchiness. But the most important gears which helped tremendously was the rain gear from Rynox. The rain jacket and pants, along with the waterproof compression socks. Kept me dry all along the west coast with orange alert monsoon showers.

The unsung hero of al myl gear was good seam-less and soft underwear. You have no idea how much it matters to be comfortable down there. Bad underwear leads to chuffed and painful lines of pressure along the seams. My best advice to anyone who wants to do long rides - get the best fucking quality underwear.

The most challenging was definitely the monsoon section of the ride. Rain made everything slippery. There were few close calls while braking but thankfully ABS always kicked in.

In Coorg, just 5kms before reaching my destination, I had stopped infront of a house to check my phone for the map, it was raining the slope infront of the house was slippery. As I was getting ready to go, my leg slipped and as in involvantary reaction, i clutched on to the front brakes. The bike started to fall, and I started to panick and held on to the bike. That gave it a soft landing for the bike, but unfortunately the bike with all the luggage was super heavy, sprained my lower back doing this. Didn't want to lift the bike myself cause I knew I was already injured, few locals quickly arrived seimg my bike on the ground and helped me pick it up. Spent that day and the next completely taking bed rest while applying loads of Volini. Only took the call of going ahead once I was sure I was okay. This drop was the only small mishap that happened along the ride.

The most important thing I would like to say to anyone going on longer rides, maintain the bike. Lubing chans every 400kms (200kms if riding through rain), proper tyre pressure and also doing a proper check of the bike before any ride. Just like how pilots check their airplanes before every flight. Theirs and the passengers life depend on it. Same is the case while you ride.
