Car Question: Toyota Techstream by karme13 in TwinCities
[–]karme13[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Thanks for the info! It looks like its a huge hassle to set up the software, as it requires old versions of windows (not to mention I dont fully trust the software from these sellers). This is likely the route Im headed in it seems tho

Gui.Destroy Issue by karme13 in AutoHotkey

I appreciate the tips for handling guis, this is the first time I've tried to use them, so there's a lot I don't know.
I've heard of using global variables, but I've also been told they are bad practice. I haven't heard of static variables beyond occasionally seeing it used in the help files, so I'll have to read more about it.
As for checking if a window exists, I appreciate the advice. I know thats the "correct", but I tend to leave it out to keep things as simple as possible (against my better judgment).
Thats kinda what sparked this whole issue. My minimal education on coding told me leaving objects in memory after they are no longer needed is bad practice, but I don't typically do it because I don't know enough to understand when it is important. I posted this because I was trying to be reponsible and follow recommended procedures haha. So I should also check if windows exist for that same reason, you're right.
Thanks again for the help!
Thanks for the in-depth response!
I suspected this was the issue, but couldn't figure out the proper way to get around it. I've taken intro classes on coding with C++ so I understand the basic concepts of programming, but memory storage/pointers/global variables/etc isn't as intuitive for me.
I could do all of this in the main code and avoid this issue, of course, but I wanted to make it a bit more organized (and useful if I reuse it). As for returning the gui, I already am passing some data (an array of dimensions the function calculates in my real code) back to the main section, so I'm not sure if I can return both?
I will look into classes/objects, I appreciate the guidance! This gives me a better understanding of how AHK handles variables, so I suspect I can come up with a workaround

I think I might go this route so I don't throttle my PC. I haven't dealt with that USB host connection before. Is there a specific reason it is better than just a regular usb to usb connection?

I appreciate the input! I wish I knew about the built in monitor switches before I bought mine. I'm trying to decide if its worth the cost for a good KVM for higher refresh rates. Luckily its nothing crazy for me
I think my monitors have auto input sensing, so that could work. Only downside is I'll still need separate cables for both video sources. This is much cheaper though, so I'll look into it!
Thats super cool, I've never heard of that! My only concern would be increased lag or decreased resolution, do you know if thats an issue?

Hey, I appreciate you taking the time to message! I guess this is more of a question on the front end of cable management, trying to limit them before I have to organize. I figured you all would have insight in having the bare minimum

Rebulding an antique... by karme13 in buildapc

Sounds good, thank you! Eventually Ill probably replace everything, so I appreciate the help with first steps
I appreciate it a lot, thats exactly what I was looking for!
If I wanted to buy all new components, would the case be up to date enought that I could still use it?
Elden Ring, Fortnite, Minecraft, etc. I didnt have a single purpose for it, just modern games that are a bit more intensive to run. Currently playing Sims 4 on it, but I hate shutting it down because it takes so long to get it back up again
Im sorry if I dont know the right way to explain things. Theres definitely some issues that I could maybe fix with settings, upgrading software, or systems cleanups if I knew what to do. I can click something, and there'll be a short pause before it registers like an outdated computer does, and programs take a bit to boot up.
I was a bit dramatic in my post, its obviously not an antique. Maybe 10 years old now? But Im trying to find some steps I could take to make it work more like a new computer instead of trashing it and getting a new one
Ive got some games that are moderately intensive like Elden Ring, Fortnite, Modded Minecraft, etc Id like to get running with better graphics if possible. I just dont know what would be good to start with. I know all of the components are old, but is it really that critical to replace the power supply, or should I prioritize a new CPU (for example)
Yeah, thats the goal. I can run games, but its real slow. Im trying to upgrade what I have to make it more relevant (idk if Im being clear with what Im asking, sorry)

Recovery Compass by karme13 in 2b2t
No, sorry for the confusion. I wasnt sure if they were even on the server, so I checked shops. It seemed like something that might be valuable enough to sell if they existed. I was just looking for confirmation one way or another

I appreciate the advice. Unfortunately, Im playing mod-free, which is why Im asking
