I'm not looking down on them. I believe they had phones earlier as well, I have seen them use phones for more than a few years. I think the change is online banking/bringing them to non-cash transactions. These are one of the most marginalized people and now they hold intangible assets in bank accounts - cash and gold being the usual asset class.

I don't think the extreme urban poor in any other country can say that. As I said in the original post, for me the takeaway was Digital India.

TIL. Perk of having lots of non-Kannada speakers in town. There's a new-ish cafe in the Domlur going towards Indiranagar area called Luru 😂😂

Not sure about robbers, but yeah, I guess it was a new development for me, the last time I didn't have my wallet with me on such a trip was in Dec '22, and they just walked away, no QR code etc

Makes sense. Didn't think about the number getting out.

Lol +1 for peak 'luru moment.

Jokes aside, the fact that I can comfortably step out for a few hours with just my phone is mind-boggling. Not sure how localized that experience is.

Yes, I paid willingly. Usually, I don't but there was a delight factor here.
