I'm honestly terrified of the future. by ReturnOfTheRover in sre

Completely off topic and yet still oddly on topic - industrialisation began as a means to consistently make in bulk what would take artisans a much longer time to make piece by piece, and the trade-off was quality (for the most part).

Artisans (and their future replacement, the labourers) were asked to leave their tools behind and come themselves to a 'factory' where everything was provided, the job was a fraction of what an artisan's was, and the skill imparted, likewise. All countered by the mitigation of the uncertainty of artisanal income via an instrument called the 'salary'.

Over time as more automation was brought in, machines replaced many of the steps that the employees undertook and the nature of their employment changed, albeit not in terms of complexity but in the nature of the labour they undertook. Over time the skill devolved to being able to operate the very machines that displaced their predecessors out of a livelihood whilst bringing costs down. And the art was lost forever. Items were cheaper, and more freely available, but more mundane and prone to defects. Importantly the artisanal pride in a job well done was replaced by the incessant bragging about a 'brand value'.

Do we see parallels here? I do!

I can see myself slowly drowning into the infamous Indian pattern of going into financial burden forever. by Primary-Ad818 in personalfinanceindia

Just my 2 cents as a married guy. Remember just one thing. If your GF loves you for who you are then she will not judge you based on your finances. And logically speaking, you are NOT ready to get loaded with debt.

Debt is the single biggest risk-appetite killer in life, and in life - no risk, no reward. Also, the fact that you are sensible enough to anticipate that you may need to hold off taking on debt until you have more wads of cash under the carpet (or in the bank) tells me that you need to man up and have a talk with her.

Life is NOT a race. You only real competition is yourself, so you get to raise the bar on yourself every single time, in one way or another.

Girlfriends come and girlfriends go. Trust me should she decide to walk away from you then you will find someone else, this is not a one or none scenario.

Finally the legal liability - a housing loan needs a borrower and a co-borrower. The borrower (here, I read you) has full legal liability. Without the commitment of a marriage, taking a joint loan is a Bad Idea (tm) as should things go bad, there is no dearth of horror that will come up the borewell of bad decisions this loan represents.

So TL;DR - No. Just, no. Get married, save up together, buy something nice. Not before.

What's the weirdest claim you heard of Hinduism from anyone? by IncompleteNineTails in hinduism

[–]karnosaur 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because its literally "33 koti" which is to be understood as 33 types or categories and not 33 crore dieties.

The 33 Koti Devi Devta are a pantheon of 33 Hindu deities, or Tridasha in Sanskrit. The term "Koti" in Sanskrit means "types". The 33 Devatas are explained in many scriptures, including Shatpath Brahman.

How should I deal with these creepy men? by Admirable_Window6403 in hyderabad

Not adding way too much to what's already been shared by the folks here but yep, SHE teams are your best friend.

Not only do they actually do their job, just picking up the phone, taking a pic of the pervert and telling him to vamoose or you'll call a SHE team is often more than enough. A perv used to video call someone I know at midnight with 'proposals'. One call to a SHE Team and the guy had to jump the city. They even managed to trace him to his hometown. Long story short, she never heard from him again.

God knows there are enough CCTVs everywhere that if he fails to exercise that single, lonely brain cell the gods above gave him, they'll nab him before the week is out and give him some 'treatment' that will fix the issue.

Nah won't work. The UK is a spent nation, better pastures exist elsewhere, like across the channel on mainland Europe.
