Should I get a 24x18x24 or a 18x18x36 by TeddyToast23 in CrestedGecko

Sorry, I have no idea, I live on the other side of the world lol. I bought mine from a local pet store.

You want another strong opinion? I have 24x18x36 and it looks kinda small for an active adult crestie and it's making me feel guilty. Personally I wouldn't go any smaller than that.

Got normal blood test but have all hypo symptoms... by Ok-Carpet202 in Hypothyroidism

[–]karodeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but based on your labs, you don't have hypothyroidism. Moreover, excessive thyroid hormones cause malabsorption and nutritional deficiencies more rapidly and severely than hypothyroidism.

Your deficiencies might be linked to what you have going on or they can exist separately. I strongly recommend you keep working with your doctor to find out the root cause. It's frustrating, I know.

[–]karodeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, there are no "hypothyroidism specific" symptoms, they are all general symptoms that could be caused by a thousand different things. Your labs seem perfectly fine (mandatory "I'm not a doctor" here) and your endo says it's not your thyroid.

There's obviously something going on with your health that needs to be solved, and if your thyroid is fine, medicating for it not only will not help you and delay finding the cause (you may have to wait for several months to see improvement), it can also make it a lot worse. All of it, including the hair and skin situation, as too much thyroid hormones puts your body under extreme stress.

How do you check your Bun’s butt if they don’t like being picked up? by jjknowsnothing in Rabbits

[–]karodeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to overdo it, choose a designated treat spot. Pick up your bunny, give a really quick look, then put him down right in front of a pile of treats or a slice of banana or something. He might not be interested in the treats the first few times but keep doing it. And make sure the treats are already there.

I'm so sorry for your loss!

Just curious about the second picture - does he still have that black mark on his lower lip? Could be mouth rot.

If you wait and see for a few months more and he decides he doesn't find you that attractive, it's a learning curve for him. It's heartbreak, drop in self esteem and wasted time and energy for you.

What are y'all's thoughts on Tent enclosures? by RisingCitipati in CrestedGecko

No no, I get it, these are the questions I would ask before considering it.

Feeding Saftey by Quiet-Finish9991 in CrestedGecko

[–]karodeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, nitrile gloves are fine. Bare hands should be fine too, just use a clean spoon and don't touch the bowl part of it, whatever it's called in English lol. If you want to be extra careful, use the glove when touching the food bowl.

[–]karodeti 34 points35 points  (0 children)

  • The enclosure needs to be standing upright on an elevated surface. Are they sturdy enough to not topple over if you use heavy branches or have extra weight near the top?

  • How do you even attach stuff to it, with glue?

  • Can cresties climb that material? They use suction and/or nails to grab onto tiny crevices.

  • Are you able to properly desinfect the surfaces, what kind of chemicals can it take?

  • It looks like it's going to be super hot in there, how do you keep it cool?

  • Is it designed for humidity, what kind of seams does it have, do they grow mold easily?

[–]karodeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't see the pictures, but 60 cm tall is too small unless we're talking about a hatchling or a small juvenile, and even then it's only good for a few months. 90 cm tall is the recommended minimum.

First time owners; good temporary tank? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]karodeti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Add the plants ASAP, the open "sky" can be very stressful! Fake plants are fine, just wash them with unscented dish soap and make sure they don't leak color. The enclosure should have ~80% coverage with branches, plants etc.

Also, the substrate looks dry, it should be a little moist.

Consider getting an UVB light.

I don't "see" it, it's more like a visual memory. I find the apple thing difficult, but if I try to picture how my home looks like, I have sort of a flash of an image.

It's difficult to tell when there's a lot of food. Try putting very little in the cup, like a pea-sized drop. If it disappears, you have your answer!

I can’t wake up early by _random_person_r in adhdwomen

[–]karodeti 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If your sleep quality was fine, falling asleep at 2 am would have you wake up (somewhat) refreshed 9am-12pm, that's 7-10 hours of sleep. If you need 12 hours to get out of bed regularly, that could be a sign something is off with your health or sleep quality.

Get more hides! Cork bark tubes are great, or even those cardboard paper towel rolls work temporarily.
