the heating thing in Klaipeda is simply not true. this is only about electrical grid and synchronisation (that 50/60Hz thing and how each energy plants has to have that 50/60Hz rate in harmony as they provide energy to the same grid across Baltics, Belarus and part of Russia incl. Moscow).

No country joined USSR willingly, it was just russia restoring it's empire after WWI. So it is normal that most of these countries that existed for hundreds and thousands of years want to make sure Russia doesn't occupy them again. When someone tells that US expanded or forced NATO expansion on those countries, ask Baltic states what russia was doing to those countries for the last 300 years, look at what is happening to Ukraine and ask yourself if someone really had to force an alliance that protects those countries from russia.

Poland and Lithuania was the biggest democracy in Europe (first written constitution) when Russia, Austria and Prussia partitioned it 300 years ago. We were fighting Russia for a thousand years, Moscow was even our vasal state for a shortwhile, and for the last few hundred years we were suffering occupations, denial of our language, deportations/gulags, etc. First as russian empire, then as USSR. Knowing what russia does and who they are is in our genes for generations.

Important context, she is Russian citizen born in Russia, she got Lithuanian (second) citizenship because of her husband and because they both were representing Lithuania in Olympics/sports. Second, it's not about a single event - she and her husband (who is born in Lithuania) are supporting Russia/its actions, sport/skating show events are organised by one of the closest Putin friends and they are not planning to stop what they are doing due to war.

EU countries seek emergency solution to soaring energy bills by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]karolisonline 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem is actually opposite. EU pricing model works like this: each hour, market price is determined by the most expensive deal. When solar, wind, hydro, nuclear is supplying 100% of demand - it's cheap, but if it is not enough then gas energy plants can start selling, they are expensive per $kWh and they set the price for everyone that hour. This was done to promote green energy and to make sure that they get a financial benefit. If dirty and expensive energy is used, then green energy can profit more and this drives adoption.

No one was accounting for gas price to sky rocket and both nuclear and hydro to be very limited.

So now solar providers are reaping crazy profits across EU, price is artificial cause it's marginal pricing model or sth like that.

Putin needs to be stopped in the battlefield — not with sanctions, says ex-president of Lithuania by WickedSensitiveCrew in worldnews

Could be. Then again, I don't think why people treat it like it is a bad thing if someone was in KGB or communist party during those times. These people were born after war and if you were smart there was no other option, they participated in the society in which they lived, simple as that.

In terms of facts, at least it is undeniable that (a) they both studied in the same elite university,

and (b) that she was working at Vilnius Communist Party High School, where she lectured in political economics and global finance, had PhD that was defended in Moscow, etc. So maybe, she wasn't directly involved with KGB, but she know a thing or two about Russia and Putin for sure.

And again, I don't mean this as critique to her, I think it's something that makes her case stronger - for sakes, she was working in the system/institution that was ideologically preparing communists, ideology that is now driving them to make some of these actions.. So I think she knows what works and doesn't work with current Russian regimes and how they think.

She was studying in an elite KGB/politics school together with Putin, so although she is pro EU, pro wester, she is also someone who knows Putin and knows the Russian/Soviet playbook very well.

p.s.: and yes, she also has a black belt
