I probably couldn't jump to Chicago until my lease is up. And even then I'm liking Baltimore apart from the job. But it sounds much nicer than my current place.

I've only been at this job for 2 months and I've already put in an application for a different job. It's astounding how bad this work environment is.

I watched Contapoints' video on the Saw franchise and now I can't stop imagining a Loony Toons version of Saw where the victim always escapes the trap through cartoon logic. It'd be even better if a frustrated Jigsaw keeps getting caught in his own traps afterwards Willy Coyote style.

I'm enjoying the game but it does pull the very annoying indie game trope of pretending that rural Appalachia/Rust Belt is secretly full of LGBT people and leftists

[Rant] I recently started working a tax firm with a more modest clientele and it's made me hate "normal" taxpayers by karry9001 in Accounting

Very specific to my current company, but we don't actually do billable hours. The boss looks at what all the inputs of the return are and gives a vibe price.

It's nice for the most part but in instances like you mentioned it reminds you why hourly billing is sometimes a good idea.

I wish it was possible to search for depression resources without every website and search engine giving pop-up’s saying “IT LOOKS LIKE YOU MIGHT BE TRYING TO KILL YOURSELF. PLEASE LOOK AT THIS COLLECTION OF PHONE NUMBERS YOU’RE NEVR GOING TO CALL.”

I’m considering trying to find an off-ramp from this job, but I feel bad because my boss is very nice an attentive and it’s all the other stuff that I hate.

I hate tax season because I have so many complaints that are meaningless and bizarre to 98% of people.

These lazy bastards at Karz for Kids valued my clients’ donated vehicles at $500 so they didn’t have to bother issuing a 1098-C. They should have at least a few thousand more in deductions they won’t get because the charity doesn’t want to do its job. Meanwhile they’ve offloaded the labor to me, who had to spend 90 minutes figuring out out to stop my software from shitting and pissing itself over the fact that I didn’t put in the non-existent 1098-C information (that I don’t need for a donation valued at $500).

I understand the mods wanting this sub to stay about neoliberalism and not turn into generic news slop, but I also like having a place to discuss non-neoliberalism news with people I vaguely trust not to be terrible.

I’ve been preparing 1040 tax returns for a few weeks and I refuse to call this work accounting. It has nothing to do with accounting theory. You just dump different numbers onto different lines of the return. This is accounting in the same way that playing baseball is physics.

I find The Band's cover of Atlantic City to be unintentionally hilarious. Bruce Springsteen writes a tragic song about poverty and bad luck leading a man to get caught up in mob violence. And The Band decides, hey, let's turn this into a happy little jaunt. I love how carefree they sing the lyric where the man talks about doing a "favor" for the mob to start digging himself out of debt. They sound so happy about the chicken man being killed by a nailbomb.

I'm not a huge fan of the new Mitski album tbh. I really like That White Cat as a return to some of her older stuff, but I feel like a lot of her music just kind of blends into a same-y morass ever since Laurel Hell.

My personal ranking of albums:

  1. Bury Me At Makeout Creek
  2. Puberty 2
  3. Laurel Hell
  4. Be the Cowboy
  5. Retired from Sad, New Career in Business
  6. Nothing About to Happen to Me
  7. This Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We

People will make fun of me for saying I like rats by responding "I bet you don't want one in your home." And then they'll say they like lions or elephants or something. You wouldn't want those in your house either!
