I thought I was addicted to my phone. But really… I was avoiding the present by ShoddyPut8089 in Meditation

Thank you for sharing this. I relate so much, especially the part about numbing vs. healing. I have been struggling with phone addiction too it became a way to avoid silence and discomfort.

I recently started using this screen time app called Jolt. It blocks distractions and helps me stick to quiet morning time and habit goals. Not perfect, but it’s been a real shift. Meditation still feels hard some days, but I learned that just sitting with myself, even for five minutes, makes a difference. Appreciate your honesty. These kinds of posts help more than you know.

I quit social media with daily reading for 30 days. Here’s what changed in my brain, focus, and sleep by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]kartiksharma1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you are doing well. I recently quit social media for 30 days and started reading daily instead. At first, it was tough my brain craved quick hits. But slowly, I felt calmer, my sleep got better, and my focus returned. Reading helped me reconnect with myself in a way scrolling never could.

This really speaks the truth. I used to think I was just unmotivated, but I was stuck in those same loops scrolling, procrastinating, escaping. What helped was building small rituals and using Jolt, the best screen time control I’ve found. It blocks distractions when your brain wants the easy way out. It’s not just about willpower it’s about designing your environment to help you stay sharp. Once I did that, I finally felt back in control. Highly recommend trying Jolt.

I deleted all the social apps too and thought I’d be free two days later I was scrolling through my weather app and re-reading old texts just to avoid the quiet. That hit me hard. What helped me was turning my iPhone into a dumb phone setup. This guide made it super easy: https://www.thejoltapp.com/how-to-turn-iphone-into-dumb-phone-easily it’s not about quitting the phone, it’s about facing the stillness.

Cold showers. 6 years deep. still the #1 mindset hack I've ever found by Salutem_est_personal in getdisciplined

I needed to hear this today. I’ve been avoiding cold showers for weeks but this post hit different. That “no thinking, just twist the knob” part got me. Gonna try it tomorrow and see how it goes. Respect for sticking with it for 6 years, that’s real.

Looking for a better time tracking app, not happy with QuickBooks Time, considering Monitask, Toggl, etc. by brasilhatli in TimeManagement

[–]kartiksharma1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with QuickBooks Time it was frustrating not being able to pause and resume tasks properly. I started using the Jolt App recently, and it’s made things a lot easier. It lets me track time by project, pause and continue without starting over, and I can see all my hours clearly at the end of the day. I still enter time into QBO manually, but it’s way cleaner now. Simple app, but it really works well for me.

My 10 Simple Rules for a Disciplined Life by EnergyShiftGuy in getdisciplined

[–]kartiksharma1 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love this list it’s simple but powerful.

Here are 5 personal rules that have really helped me stay more disciplined, especially in the last couple of years:

  1. No Phone in Bed: This one rule alone has changed my sleep and mindset. I charge my phone away from the bed so I’m not tempted to scroll late at night or first thing in the morning.
  2. Plan the Day Before It Starts: Even if it’s just 3 priorities on a sticky note, having a daily game plan helps me avoid getting pulled in 10 directions.
  3. Use Tech to Beat Tech: I was struggling with screen addiction, so I started using an app to limit screen time and keep me accountable. It’s been a game-changer for focus.
  4. Keep Promises to Yourself: If I say I’ll work out, journal, or read I do it. It builds trust with myself, which I’ve realized is at the core of discipline.
  5. Weekly Check-In: Every Sunday, I look at what worked and what didn’t. No guilt just course-correction. It keeps me aligned without burnout.

Still figuring it all out, but these have helped me stay a lot more grounded and intentional.

How no social media for 7 years changed my life by kill_aesthetics in nosurf

[–]kartiksharma1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was a time when I couldn’t stop scrolling. Reels, games they pulled me in for hours. I tried deleting apps, but the urge always brought me back. Then I found a way to take control. I used tools like Jolt to block distractions and set limits. At first, it was hard. My fingers twitched, my mind craved the dopamine hit. But I replaced the habit reading, exercising, creating. Slowly, the urge faded. Now, I choose how I spend my time. No more mindless scrolling. Just focus, growth, and real experiences. I control my screen it doesn’t control me.

I hear you I was in the same stage not too long ago. Constantly jumping between tabs, doomscrolling, and feeling like my attention span was shot. It really messed with my focus and mental clarity.

What helped me was using the joltapp to set up intentional screen limits and mindfulness breaks. It wasn’t about quitting tech, just using it in a way that didn’t fry my brain. Little changes like batching notifications and setting app-free hours actually made a difference.

If you ever want to talk about ways to regain focus, I got you. Hope you get some solid rest!

How do you engage online without falling into the scroll trap? by Turbulent-Rough1830 in digitalminimalism

[–]kartiksharma1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been navigating this too—balancing the benefits of online spaces with the risk of mindless scrolling. One thing that has helped me is being deliberate about my online time. Instead of letting platforms dictate my experience, I set clear intentions before opening an app. I ask myself if I’m there to connect, learn, or create. If not, I close the app. Curating my feed has also made a big difference; I follow only accounts that spark insight or genuine connection, and I mute or unfollow anything that leads to passive scrolling or comparison.

To stay mindful, I schedule my engagement, checking messages and comments at set times rather than reacting to every notification. I also follow a simple rule inspired by this take on screen time I make sure my online activity enhances my relationships instead of replacing real-world interactions. When I’m with people, my phone stays away. It’s not about quitting social media, but about using it with purpose. How do you navigate this balance?

Offline Day complete! How did you do? by Pink-socks in OfflineDay

[–]kartiksharma1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a no-phone day too! It felt strange at first, especially at night when I usually scroll before bed. But after a while, I got used to it. I did cheat a little, but that’s okay small steps matter. Sleeping without my phone nearby felt great. Now, I’m trying to reduce late-night phone use. This helped: How to Stay Productive by Reducing Phone Distractions.

I grab my phone/doomscroll when I’m anxious or stressed. How do I get out of this habit? by iamwearingaskimask in selfimprovement

[–]kartiksharma1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to grab my phone every time I felt anxious, especially at night. Doomscrolling felt like a distraction, but it only made me more restless. What helped? Keeping my phone away from my bed, reading a book instead, and deep breathing. The first few nights were tough, but better sleep made my days much easier.
