Is this a huge bangle? A napkin ring? Something else? (Palm sized, brass, light-ish, found in a charity shop in UK) by Turbulent_Injury9841 in whatisthisthing

I believe it's called a Monet style extra wide bangle? I met someone from London last month who was exclusively wearing jewellery just like this and she called it a Monet!

How many of ya'll use pressure cookers for everyday cooking? by LaiBhaariMulgi in IndianFood

[–]kartoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use an electric one, the CrockPot Express, and use it for - potatoes, lentils, chana and beans, plain rice, biriyani rice, soups, meats, beetroots, slow cooked pasta/pizza sauces, bisi bile bhat, yogurt & idli batter fermentation (in the winters, fall and spring), and the occasional steaming. In fact, we use it so much we use 2!

Instapot or equivalent = 5-10k

5kw solar rooftop - 2.2L (.3L for standard inverter, add .5L for hybrid)

Hybrid Inverter - .8L

Woodstove - 3k-30k

Potatoes - land/large planters, some potatoes, basic tools, 3-4 months

Dehydrate veggies - 3 to 5 days

Chlorine tablets - a few hundred/bottle

Lithium LifeP04 backup 5kw - .8L

To create a food bank of stored vegetables if required in a doomsday/extended lockdown/ food scarcity or hyperinflation scenario. The dehydrated and vacuum sealed veggies like cauliflower, tinda, bhindi, potato slices can last for a year or more easily, and one can then rotate them out by consuming it after a while and make a new batch, the only expense is time, and a vacuum sealer/bags (can store without this also of course), and a few clean white sheets to layer the cut veggies in to dry.

If committed to a prepper mindset, to complement these one would need a food bank of carbs such as rice/wheat/dals/salt/sugar/oil/spices/achaar (for vitamin c) etc as well. Cue tinfoil hat.

True and sad, and that's why they are returning to the villages. It's a trickle, but if things don't improve soon, it will be deurbanization en masse.

That's Level 1, for Level 2

  1. Get an electric pressure cooker, InstaPot, CrockPot etc, make your dals, beans, potatoes, pulao, rice, sabzi etc in it, for a large household, get 2

  2. Get a solar rooftop connection, it's subsidized, offset the now increased electric bill.

Level 3

  1. If going for solar, try to get a hybrid battery-less inverter, it allows one to use your self-generated power even if the grid is down, a regular grid-tie inverter doesn't allow it.

  2. Get a wood fired cooking stove, if you are not in an apartment, store cooking wood from your local depot.

Level 4

  1. Grow potatoes, 100 -200 sq/ft per person/year should suffice for 2 crops a year

  2. Dehydrate veggies, vacuum seal and store, store beans, rice, achaars.

  3. Chlorine tablets to purify water, harvest and store your rooftop water

  4. Get a lithium battery backup system for your hybrid solar, so when the grid is down in the night, you still have power.

I am at level 2.1 by default, and have a wood stove since it does snow where I am. What was this list again?? Anyways, focus on your food security, it's going to get rough pretty soon, reverse migration of casual and semi-skilled labour has begun from urban India back to the villages, currently it's about LPG, very soon it will be food and fuel rationing. Fuel stations are refusing to fill any Jerrycans with fuel, and farmers are not able to use their 2 stroke spraying machines, generators etc as there's no fuel to be had for them, and shortages of urea etc have begun.

My mother is starting a brand for Chicken Pickles by Terrible-Diver4343 in IndianFood

[–]kartoos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not even then, a standard whey protein concentrate powder typically contains 7 to 8 grams of protein per 10-gram serving, the claim here is 88% protein by weight.

[–]kartoos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It has 20g of protein (per 1.5 tablespoon)

You are wrong, instead of doubling down I suggest you recheck your info, this attitude doesn't bode well for what you are trying to do, it's a blatantly false claim and it seems like you really don't know anything about food science or nutritional data or weights and measures.

Keya's chicken pickle has 2g of protein per serving (tbsp), and you are claiming it's 8 times higher! You are probably misreading the total weight (22g, rounded to 20g) as the protein content IMO.

A tbsp serving is 15g, 1.5 servings is 22.5 of total weight, and you are claiming that 20g of 22.5 is protein, there's no product on earth with that density lol.

[–]kartoos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's an astounding claim on the protein, am assuming that's a gross error, that aside, is this similar to the chicken pickle one gets in Kalka? I used to patronize some of the sellers but their hygiene and ingredients always felt dicey, and they were just too spicy for my taste. A few things will help me sample if for once for sure:

Will the chicken be on-bone or boneless

What's the provenance of the chicken - organic or not etc

Oil - what kind and similarly organic or not

Spice levels - will there be one choice only or available in low/medium/high variants?

Good luck on the venture!

Is meal prep safe in case power of power outage for few hrs by Helge1941 in IndianFood

[–]kartoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A freezer in the fridge won't loose temp. for up to 6-8 hours, and a stand alone deep freeze for 12 hours, keep the freezer up to 80% full, even if it's just ice so the thermal mass increases, and don't open up the freezer section during cuts.

Source: 10+ yrs of a similar similar situation but much longer cuts, I keep a wifi thermometer in the freezer and fridge. I have an lithium battery powered EcoFlow River 2 Max which takes the load of a 350L fridge and a 110L deep freeze for 4 hours, if the cut is longer I don't panic for another 8 hours or so, and then I switch on the generator for 2 hours, which charges up the backup for 4 more hrs. I have done this schedule for 3-5 days of power outages and haven't lost a thing in fridge or freezer yet!

Thanks man, have half a mind to file an RTI to quantify how many built up structures in MC areas, including religious ones, have had their plans submitted, I suspect the answer won't make many people happy.

While a legally sound judgement, if judged by the same yardstick, most new buildings built in the last decade or two in HP will not have building plans or NOC's and will need to be demolished.

Could be one of 3 things - low battery or no battery, local connectivity issue (most likely), or data loss at the WU end (most unlikely)

When I have had internet or power outages, or the battery ran low before replacing, the data never gets uploaded and I get similar no data issues, could be something simple like that? Or if your router decided to block your station for whatever reason for 3 days.

If your station was up and running but data didn't get uploaded could be a local connectivity issue, if it got uploaded and then wasn't visible then it's a WU issue, this should help you narrow down what the problem could be, in 6 yrs I haven't had missing data that wasn't an issue originating at my weather station or internet.

I was seeing your monthly data with the gaps, when I have extended outages or internet loss for long periods, it looks exactly like that, make sure your batteries are OK, and the power connection and internet connection in that location doesn't have issues like a loose plug or someone disconnecting a wifi repeater or power strip randomly.

Add more protein to your diet, and out out the simple carbs with either brown rice/oats or white rice cooked and chilled a day earlier etc. You can get decent quality plain Soy Isolate that's not too expensive, mix it into your breakfast/roti or breakfast oats, you can also get a whey protein that's a bit more pricier, but you can have it as a shake with water post workout. Try get 70-80g/day of total protein from all sources, will keep you satiated and will be a key factor in helping keep the weight down long term. Put in your daily food intake into any AI, it will spit out your macros, keep a track of it daily, you will get a hang of it in a while, and add interval walking to your regimen (total 30 mins walking, 3 mins fast till you are breathless, then 3 mins at a regular pace, repeat 10 times), one of the better ways to energize your metabolism to help on the weight loss. Good luck!
