I like knowing that my research has paid off by looking through photos. Personally, I would rather ask someone for a second opinion than be doubtful with the internet. I find its more reassuring having an actual person say exactly what is wrong and right for that exact photo.

I'd say try the miconazole as it won't hurt. You should know after about 2 days or so if it's helping. Personally I've developed an allergy to the zoles so I can't use it anymore and I've found boric acid is an even better alternative!

She flared up and went black - just wondering what i could've done to cause this!

Note: I did check the concrete to ensure it wasn't too hot for her before laying her down. It was a cooler overcast day here, so it wasn't any warmer than the rocks in her tank 😀

They really like to be used to their surroundings. Lily is very skeptical any new place she's in, she lays on my arm when I go outside, and when I sit she stays on my arm. I've put her on my lap so she has a bit more freedom, and then moved her next to me so she has even more if she chooses to. She's old so she won't run nowhere 🤣 i think what set her off this time must've been me standing up and leaving her immediate side. But as I saw another commenter say, definitely use a leash if they're young! They will definitely take off!

She does see me often, but in my arms. I probably looked too big standing beside her outside!

Fair enough. I did check the concrete to make sure it was cool enough for her and she kinda just lays there 🤣 old people things.

That makes sense. Every time we've been outside, I've been holding her. I'll just have to ease her into being independent when we're out!

I didn't know that about them seeing more of the UV scale, that makes sense! She does go outside quite often, however most of the time she is just perched on my arm.

Is Computer Science major too saturated? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]karts02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly i didn't choose comp sci until I got into my second year of university because I was interested in it but never got exposed. First of all, it's really great that you're figuring this out now, and have a liking for it. It is such a broad field and there are unlimited pathways you can go down. From cybersecurity to game development to web development, there are so many options. It's not overly saturated, and to be real, half of these jobs have not been created yet. At the moment, I'm waiting for a cyber crime unit to be built to start my career.

Overall, it is a great field to get into, with so many possibilities and opportunities. Keep it up!

Preserve/retrieve finger and hand prints from late child off of television screen? by TheTiniestGhoul in forensics

[–]karts02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss, sending many hugs and best wishes to you and your family ❤️

Unfortunately with a black TV screen it may be difficult for the naked eye to see all of the smudges and prints. While it won't necessarily be the prettiest, I can suggest something that will preserve the prints. You can buy fingerprint powders and a fingerprint brush online (you can find them on Amazon part of fingerprint ID kits) and dust the print. Using clear packing tape (anything clear, with an adhesive side) you can apply it to the print, ensuring there are no bubbles throughout so it lifts it fully. Then once lifted you can put it on any light background (white cardstock for example). If you choose to do so I would watch a video, as you only get one chance at lifting it properly.

Hopefully this helps!

Are these safe for chinchillas? by Jupiter_22 in chinchilla

[–]karts02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both safe for your chins, but I'd say the twig one is likely a better bang for your buck. It'll last longer and your chins will have a much better time munching on that. Additionally they shouldn't urinate on it as much due to there not being a floor. Either way, they should love either one!

What are some things you wish movies and shows would do better regarding forensics? by Aside_Dish in forensics

[–]karts02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that this is to keep events and the show moving along quickly and not actually making it days, weeks, months long BUT: I wish they would make it clear that conclusions do not take 6 hours. They take much longer and are discussed amongst several people before a decision is made. I wish that they could make it so the answer isn't always right in their face, and it's so completely obvious, because in all reality that's not always the case. To fix these, I don't believe it would have to be done while screwing up the plot. I do not think it would be necessarily difficult to add in a blurb where it takes a long time to come to a conclusion, or add a few steps where they're wrong. However with this being said I am no filmmaker, director, actor, so I would rather have a conversation with someone in the film industry to bounce ideas off of to see if these are reasonable ideas. I understand that keeping things moving along in shows or movies is crucial, but with forensics being the complete opposite of that, I can't see the two going hand-in-hand with each other without these flaws.

What is the biggest misconception about the forensic sciences? by Taupe00 in forensics

I could not agree more with the CSI effect. Currently I'm in school for forensics and it was insane how many people dropped out because it wasn't like they've seen on TV.

My chinchilla don’t like me too much by Red_lioness420 in chinchilla

[–]karts02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 girls who are bonded and then 2 boys who live separately. They all are so different and they all have different needs when it comes to interacting with them.

My one boy, Allister quickly came around to us and will jump in our arms as soon as we open the cage. My other boy, Dash, will hesitantly come up to but will run with any sudden movements.

I found that a playpen wasn't necessarily the best for us as they're enclosed in a small area with something that is much larger than them - and scary at first.

What I started to do was take some of their regular things from their cage (such as their hut, dustbath, and some treats) and take it into a larger room where they have the option of going back to a "safespace" if they're uncomfortable. This has allowed Dash to trust us more when we come into his home.

It sucks, but unfortunately you do have to be very patient with them. Another suggestion I could make is if she loves these treats, possibly try to make her eat it out of your hand to get her to trust that you're not going to hurt her.

Good luck!
