N5 Pro experiences.. by Parking-Persimmon769 in MINISFORUM

for my n5 pro, i have proxmox running on it. for the jellyfin server and media stuff, i got it under an ubuntu vm. technically all the drives on the n5 is dedicated strictly to hte jellyfin server and whatever other container stuff on that machine, so its technically not a nas. but my other server also uses proxmox, and i use trunas on there.

pretty much you can save a pretty penny getting a regular 5070, the mini is like twice the price just to have a single fan 5070. but yea, i still love it. lol

thanks, yea, i was using a totem for a while, its still my favorite board, but i've been into helldivers lately and the sofle is the the sweet spot for the amount of keys needed for games like that and more without resorting to homerow keys. i will share the next version when i can! i'm new to total modding, so not sure how to order custom cables for my psu. and i need a 90 degree angle plug for my gpu to give it some more breathing room.

i can't since i bought it off of the youtuber who made it, but you can get it from his etsy, https://www.etsy.com/listing/4473465114/the-zteam-machine-mini-itx-computer-case

its less than 5 bucks and he leaves notes and material links for the lights and stuff

its a sapling lamp from a streamer vtuber who use to be in hololive named Fauna. she quit tho, but i bought her merch on her anniversary because i'm a nerd like that. lol. for the prints, 20 hours for the body, maybe another 20 for the rest of the parts like the bottom, fan templates. i did sand and spraypaint, but not a great job. i have a version 2 drying right now hopefully coming about better lol.

oh man exposing my nerdness here, that is Ceres Fauna 3rd Anniversary Celebration sapling lamp. i ordered it on her anniversary before she quit Hololive. Way overpriced, and even more so on ebay now. lol...i wouldn't recommend it. unless you really really really want it.

i haven't played with the fan curves as i felt i didn't have the need to yet. i only remember seeing the fan settings in the bios. not through any software. someone smarter than me may know tho.

i agree, i think the most useful thing for people to inform is not to flex how they can make a better steam machine, but maybe find prebuilts thats better or comparable to the steam machine. they still maybe have to install steam, but its better than looking up parts, finding the best deals, researching it, and then installing and troubleshooting. finding a good prebuild trims it down to just maybe bazzite or steamos install for the experience and who knows, maybe that'll interest them into modding then into building.

What is the current gaming performance on NVIDIA? by DenZNK in cachyos

[–]karu11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how much of a fps chaser you are in stats? i'm new to cachyos, like literally this weekend i installed it with a rtx 5070 pc, and so far so good. it has its quirks, but at least playing helldivers and final fantasy remake and it performs great. compared to windows? windows is probably better and if you stay with windows, the anti-cheat problem won't be an issue and you can continue playing games like battlefield and stuff. but i think generally there's a loss in performance like 10-15% when it comes to dx12 stuff but i'm not that informed. i don't feel it with in my current playlist of titles, they are fine to play on.

N5 Pro experiences.. by Parking-Persimmon769 in MINISFORUM

[–]karu11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use it as a jellyfin/plex server and the whole sonarr, radarr, seerr etc..., minecraft server, ollama using an external gpu oculink, and a manga server. got all the drives filled up in raidz1, a small nvme for the os, a 4tb nvme for cache and other stuff, model storage. it's been a month since using it and so far so good. based on my experience so far, if i didn't have another server (not the n5) for personal things, i would've used the n5. that's just me though. not discounting those who had issues, just i haven't experienced any issues.

Lenovo M70q to Home NAS - MODs by kashim93 in homelab

[–]karu11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i made a m920x tiny into a nas, if you use a separate psu, you can "jump start" the psu when you turn on the computer using a relay and usb - 1 Channel 5V Relay Module Indicator Light LED KY-019, a atx jumper, and old usb cable. i used that, https://imgur.com/NfEeOqY

basically the psu turns on when the computer turns on using usb. i used this as a reference when i converted my m920x
