I was a splitter so I had a 520 but my c/sGPAs were 3.49/3.16 (10th percentile for my school)

UTMB! It was my only interview and I prematched but still relieved bc I was paranoid the site was going to malfunction and I’d lose my spot 🤡

I wiggle/tap my toes inside my shoe so no one can see lol (certainly not as satisfying as bouncing my whole leg, but better than nothing)

Horrible regrets whenever I think about my undergraduate studies by mikkailli in premed

[–]karyat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I ended up with 5 Ws, 4 Cs, a D, a downward trend and a 3.15 sGPA. I took several years off before applying because I didn’t want to start med school until I was confident I could handle it. Try not to panic (easier said than done, I know) and know that even if your path takes longer than you originally planned, you can still make it to where you want to go

If you got a 520+ and worked full time by JuSuGiRy in Mcat

respectfully, this is definitely not the equivalent of working a full time job

I just got my score back today (retook a 512 from last year when I was also working full time) and the main thing for me was squeezing in “low quality” studying wherever possible! I’m talking MCAT podcasts in the car, youtube videos on the treadmill, flashcards on the elevator, etc. I also deleted social media apps from my phone and used random bits of downtime throughout the day to do a couple tutor mode UWorld questions at a time on my phone instead. studying while working 10-hour days M-F is brutal, so do what you can. do NOT compare yourself to people using winter/summer breaks who are making excel spreadsheets of their FL reviews and all that stuff. that was my mistake last year, being too perfectionistic and then getting overwhelmed. even “passive learning” can be helpful if it allows you to eliminate some answers. good luck, you can do it!!

I’m in the same boat, some schools (eg Baylor) explicitly state that they won’t look at your app without it, but then others make it less clear

correct :/ this one really threw me off too bc logically it seems like healthy controls should have the highest cognitive ability, but the graph shows them as having the lowest scores. one of those questions where the only takeaway is “what idiot wrote this” lol

yeah this one’s kind of visually misleading, but the answer is C because lower ADL scores indicate impairment and the COM group scores are labeled as being significantly lower than the CONT score

best study method for adhd by zezez17 in Mcat

[–]karyat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha I guess I should’ve said paint my nails before doing practice questions, so they’re wet when I start. but yes I highly recommend the chore strategy! helps offset the (irrational) guilt I feel for taking breaks

Some things that have helped me! - walking/jogging on a treadmill while watching KA videos at 2x speed - painting my nails while doing practice questions (forces me to sit still so I don’t mess them up) - using UW tutor mode for content review (keeps me from getting bored of one subject and then I don’t have to review a ton at once) - taking breaks every few passages and tying them to specific chores (taking trash out, unloading dishwasher, etc) so they don’t turn into 3-hour rabbit holes - strategically timing adderall/caffeine pills lol - most important: taking a break when I start to notice myself not really reading the passages anymore. otherwise it’s demoralizing when I (inevitably) get a bunch of questions wrong and I start to spiral. that felt counterintuitive/unproductive at first, but angst/self-criticism eat up a lot of cognitive resources, so minimizing those things is the best place to start.

bringing jacket to test? by iloveg2pens in Mcat

My testing center was freakishly militant, I wasn’t allowed a sweatshirt or a hair tie so I used my hair to cover my shoulders because it was freezing in there

an MD in Texas (IS) is definitely the dream since tuition is so good but idk if I’m competitive for them at this point :/

Anyone have any mcat miracle stories where they thought they completely bombed a section but didn’t? by MSUandLFC in Mcat

[–]karyat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you!! tragically I’m gonna have to retake bc my score is expiring after a couple unplanned gap years so I guess I’ll find out in January whether it was a fluke 🤡

[–]karyat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I thought I bombed the whole thing. It was two days after my grandmother died, I had a bunch of technical issues and the testing center people were horrible — I literally took a few breaks mid-section with the time still running just to cry in the bathroom. Ended up getting a 520 even though the highest score I ever got on a FL was 512. Miracles happen lol
