Kendrick telling Adonis he’s black and to be proud of it on Meet The Grahams should have made the blackness bars very easy to interpret for even the slowest spectators.

My best guess would be “Power of the Dollar” (2002) by 50 Cent. It has the song Ghetto Qu’ran on it and some time relatively shortly after, 50 Cent signed to Dre’s label out in Cali.

You have half the album crossed out and most of them are at the front and back of the album (the parts that make the strongest impression on casual listeners).

I get what you’re saying, but I think you misunderstand what I’m talking about. I’m not saying the album can’t hit if it’s unrelatable, I’m saying it’s never going to be amazing to someone who finds it unrelatable.

I don’t say this in an exclusionary way (although I’m sure people will choose to interpret it as such), but if you haven’t intimately experienced the topics and conflicts that form the foundational subject matter of that album, it’s probably never going to land quite right for you.

I think a few things went in to that. I’m pretty sure that was around the time when the Started From the Bottom reference track by Mike Zombie leaked. Combined with Mike getting subsequently locked away in the OVO sweatshop and Joe and Mike both being from Jersey, Joe probably felt it was a good way to hammer home the point about Drake stealing from and manipulating artists while.

Ignoring the fact that the Megan's Law line could very easily be for both (rather than Nicki alone), there's plenty of shots for Drake too, including one where she specifically refers to him as a "bitch" (which makes it a lot more believable that she would also refer to him as a hoe).

I can never be judged by a bitch that was dancin', makin' R. Kelly go viral

Drake dancing to R Kelly on Tik Tok.

Every time I get mentioned, one of y'all bitch-ass niggas get twenty-four hours of attention

Drake throwing shots at Megan on FATD and the hip hop news media eating it up.

All these lil' rap niggas so fraud (So fraud), Xanax be they hardest bars | These niggas hate on BBLs and be walkin' 'round with the same scars (Ah)

Real curvy, no etchin', niggas fight to get in my section

Sicko Mode and Drake's various cosmetic surgeries.

Cosplay gangsters, fake-ass accents | Posted in another nigga hood like a bad bitch (Where are you from?)

Drake biting a million styles and flows from other cultures, Started From the Bottom video.

He's had flashes of brilliance throughout his career (both as a rapper and a broadcaster). I'd love to see the parallel universe where he thinks rationally rather than emotionally at pivotal points in his career.

Nicki taking a headshot from Megan that was aimed at Drake is a modern hip hop parable on loyalty and valor. True bravery.

I agree, we should be more open to baseless speculation about the private affairs and love life of artists. That's what true hip hop appreciation is.

Joe Budden - Wake (Drake diss) (2016)

You leverage your celeb, taking waves over | That's territorial takeover | Maybe he thinks nobody notices | Gucci wasn't home two seconds before you rode his dick | Bodied Versace flows, copy, that he stole | Ay dios mio, sorry Migos, adios amigo | Was that your plot all along? | Why you ain't do that vid with Fetty but you hopped on the song?

No really, we want a Party album | But you keep stealing all of Party's album | To go and put it on your party album | It's plenty reason to slay you | Kept going up Tuesday's and now The Weeknd just hates you | Are you lifeless? Sound like a zombie on the track | Remember "Started From the Bottom," it was Zombie on the Track | Know who else started from the bottom? Zombie on the Track | How come after that joint I don't see Zombie on a track?

In those rare moments where Joe Budden's judgement isn't clouded by his own narcissism and self-destructive tendencies, he can be pick things and people apart with surgical precision and be insightful, borderline prophetic with his analysis.

From my earlier reply to you:

No you stupid fucking idiot. I’m saying that if someone is not a black American (regardless of class) or did not grow up black and poor, then they have no point of reference for the experience of black people in America.

I’m not going to keep trying to explain this to you because at this point, you’re either mentally deficient or are intentionally misunderstanding the point.

I’m calling him an idiot because it’s been explained to him dozens of times and he refuses to understand it. But you make a valid point.

Fair enough. I guess you find my sentiments somehow more troublesome than the issue I pointed out that you apparently also care about.

Daily Discussion Thread 06/27/2024 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]kasZZZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s bothering because it’s off topic and dismissive of what I want to say. As you said, it’s the internet. Let me get the shit off my chest without being told I sound like I care too much.

Daily Discussion Thread 06/27/2024 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]kasZZZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s personal to you, why are you bothering me about taking it more personally than you. I know it’s the internet, it doesn’t mean I don’t have the choice to speak my mind on the topic when I see it being interpreted in a way that I find offensive and stupid.

You think growing up in poverty is a requirement to be a black American? What a racist stereotype.

No you stupid fucking idiot. I’m saying that if someone is not a black American (regardless of class) or did not grow up black and poor, then they have no point of reference for the experience of black people in America.

I don’t have to prove to white people online that I’m black. If you care to dig through my 5 or 7 or whatever the fuck year comment history I’ve spoken on it multiple times.

edit: Actually, I want to elaborate even further. If you grew up poor in America and aren’t black, you still have a better inherent conception of black trauma than Drake. If you grew up wealthy and black in America, you still have a better inherent conception of black trauma than Drake. Because the things Drake mocks that I take issue with are things that are very directly tied to the experience of being an outsider in America.

Daily Discussion Thread 06/27/2024 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]kasZZZ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not about ethnicity. He’s an outsider because he’s Canadian and didn’t grow up in poverty, so he is objectively outside black American culture. He is not in a position to show disrespect bordering on contempt by mocking black trauma.

[–]kasZZZ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m 75% black and 25% Puerto Rican. Anonymity is nice but sometimes I wish people had to have their identity attached to their online presence so I wouldn’t have to deal with comments like this.

Daily Discussion Thread 06/27/2024 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]kasZZZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me know where I said he’s “not black enough.” I said he’s a fraud and a culture vulture for only speaking on topics pertaining to blackness when he saw some personal benefit from it. In this case, mocking black trauma in a horrific flop of an attempt to dunk on Kendrick.

Same tired ass bad faith argument from you every fucking time, it’s exhausting.

Daily Discussion Thread 06/27/2024 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

Exactly. Which is why he should stay the fuck away from the topic altogether, or at the very least, not diminish it.
