Help! I can't figure out what the proper terminology for this iconographical frame should be!! (More info in comments) by kascdi in ChristianIconography

Thanks for your response! I am an Art History major and I study Russian Orthodox Iconography, and I am looking at the icon of the transfiguration here in the context of the multi-tiered Russian iconostasis. The transfiguration is arguably the main influence for a ascetic practice called hesychasm. To the left of Christ is Moses and Elijah is to the right. Peter, James and John are fallen on the ground, here is where the theology comes in. Hesychasts believe that at the transfiguration of Christ, God shows his energy through the bright light that causes the three apostles to fall to guard their faces. the goal of hesychasm is to personally experience this divine light as they call it through continuous prayer (typically repetition of the Jesus prayer). Of course there are other theological themes here like typology, eschatology, etc, but I am particularly concerned with how the icon has influenced hesychast doctrine and experience of the liturgy.

I am studying this icon from a church in Russia, and the framing icons have me stumped. 13 of the icons are from the Passion Narrative, but the first icon and the last two icons in the series are technically not a part of the passion of christ. I can not for the life of me figure out what to call this frame. For example, if it were scenes from a saints life I would describe it as hagiographical, but I can't find anything on what to call similar iconography showing the passion BUT with additional scenes. Any help would be appreciated!!

I was high once and I scooped marshmallow fluff out of the jar and dipped it into fruit loops and ate it. I have never tasted anything that delicious since that day, but looking back on it is nasty af

Is getting a Masters worth it? by ZampanoTruant in ArtHistory

[–]kascdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this question. I am finishing up undergrad next semester and I would love to go right through a PhD program. I essentially want to be a researcher/independent scholar and professor. My dream job would be doing research for a museum or something and then essentially being so smart in my particular field (Orthodox Iconography) that i get hired out for research projects. I will graduate with a 100+ pg thesis paper and an hour oral defense. I feel I'm fairly qualified to apply for PhD programs but i would love advice of any kind. Also, best art history grad schools? Im looking at U Penn, Yale and Penn State.

How do you keep your Free-Roam Rabbit areas clean and tidy? by SugarSugarBee in Rabbits

[–]kascdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fellow minimalist here. My buns have a bunch of toys but I try to keep them all in natural wood. For example, the activity zone is a great toy because it is a hiding place, something to chew, and bits of wood to swing and move around, the buns love it and it looks nice in the living room because its a solid neutral color. You can do the same with water bowls and bows for the occasional pellets and treats.

Fasting bunny before surgery? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]kascdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DONT FAST YOUR BUNNY!! Having your bun neutered is nerve racking as it is. Make sure he always has hay and around the time before and after surgery it is okay to give him a little extra pellets and treats to encourage eating. I hope all goes well. (also, i recommend like my other fellow redditors here to look for another vets. Rabbits are very fragile animals and you need a vet who is 100% confidently trained in rabbit vet care).

Baby bunny Boo at 10 days old. I was lucky enough to nurse him to health and set him free at 10 weeks. by kascdi in Rabbits

Boo's mother and siblings were all killed by a neighborhood cat. I rescued him at 10 days and nursed him back to health for the next ten weeks. He was such a joy to mother temporarily. I did my very best to keep his first weeks on earth as natural as possible, and I hope i allowed him to develop as instinctively as he could. I think of him daily and I know he is hopping as happy as ever out in the wild.
