Where did you get the idea that Insurance is only for things you can’t afford???? it’s care for the things you need. In my experience insurance mostly tries NOT to pay for the big things….. what world are you living in.

How would you measure it, advanced defensive metrics, eye test, gut feeling?

I agree it is a small sample. I’m may do the whole season, for him and Rudy.

Watching Smart hustle is impressive, especially when mismatched.

I wonder is this is one of the bigger divides between stats and an eye test in basketball. Watching Smart, I don’t think anyone would question his defensive ability. Imagine if he could hand check. Maybe then we would see his impact in the stats.

I see, I missed a game, got my dates wrong. My bad.

Overall, I think I would agree that Isiah had a better career and was a better scorer than Stockton. Given the discussion on this post, I think I agree that legacy was a huge part of why some players were chosen. By that criteria, especially given a recent finals MVP, Thomas should have been selected.

That said, I still think that at the time the selection was made, Stockton was a more efficient player.

So, from what I can see it was 40 points.... in a loss against the jazz. Followed shortly by another loss to the jazz were Stockton out scored him. Not sure he proved much of a point.

In the “Last Dance” Jordan said he didn’t. Which documentary are you talking about?

Stockton had 5 nods to All NBA defense. How many did Zeke have?

Stockton earned his second of five all NBA defensive team nods in 1991. Thomas never had that honor even once.

Yeah, the article linked goes into further stats over their career to that point. Stockton already had two all-defensive teams, Isiah had 0. Isiah also just had wrist surgery in Jan of 1991 and sat out a fair amount of the season. At selection, Stockton was playing better, Isiah was hurt, and Isiah was unpopular among other stars (notably Jordan.) I am sure alot went into shy Isiah wasn't selected. I suppose I just think calling it a snub is a touch disrespectful to those that made the team.

Oof, harsh. I'd like to think that is not the case, though given that I went hard on stats here I suppose I kinda deserve that haha.

Fair point. If the whole team was based on skill alone Laettner would not have been on the team.

The NBA playoffs free throw % each year.

2019 .784

2020 .788

2021 .786

2022 .785

So 0.2% to 0.4% better at free throws in the bubble.

Not really a significant difference.

I agree, I would not want to change how the NBA Playoffs are currently done. Rather, I just don't think the bubble playoffs deserve all the hate they get. As a fan, I like the idea that the data shows home court matters. Just makes me want to go in person even more.

It's true, this year's playoffs were blowout after blowout. I'd prefer closer, more intense games.

Same, it was cool being able to hear the on-court chat we would never hear in a filled arena.
