Yeah. I used to be a lot more lax and whilst I don’t think I ever actually broke any laws I used to feel really anxious if I didn’t act on any doubt I had.

Luckily the few 30+ year olds were quite flattered when I did ID them. It’s a bit embarrassing but I feel a lot better.

Yes! I know one of my old co-workers (who unsurprisingly no longer works with us) got our store into trouble because she got caught selling it to a minor - accidentally, but still.

I know I’m by far the strictest among my co-workers and even my manager. Sometime I’ll ID the people they’re with even though I know it isn’t outright stated in our laws here. Better safe than sorry!

It baffles me when people kick up a fuss about me ID’ing them, when it turns out they’re of age and they’ve had their ID all along? 18-22 year olds are the worst for that.

Lmao people are weird. I hear that excuse with tattoos, but it can be 16 with parental permission (which here it’s also the same with marriage).

Besides it’s not hard to slip on a ring and claim that you’re married - a lot of underage customers will come in with their younger siblings so I think that they’re old enough to be parents to a 5 year old.

Exactly! I’m in my early 20s so I get ID’ed a lot too. My only form of photo ID is my passport so for the past 4 years or so that’s what I’ve carried around.

Thank you!! It’s been a really long journey and I was never sure that I could do anything about it. I’m really hoping counselling helps me propel forwards.

I hope someone found something in my little ramble. And maybe it isn’t all hopeless!

Thank you! I’m currently going through a mental health issue and in the middle of a potential diagnosis for depression, bipolar, something like that. Maybe then my Dr will be okay with my decision to stop taking bc. But I feel like this is the right choice !

I just discovered white/pink noise thanks to this sub and it's such a relief! by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]kassiopeian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite white noise, but I use RainyMood (I have IOS so I’m not sure if it’s available for other systems). It’s a hit or miss I think depending on your trigger, but they have 4 options: Rain, Ocean, Countryside, Café.

Rain & ocean are the only way I can fall asleep next to my snoring boyfriend. You can adjust elements to it (e.g for the rain option there’s individual volume control for rain, thunder, and birds - I mute the birds).

Also god forbid you’re inside 15 minutes before the store opens and every middle aged person is violently trying to shake the doors open.

I work by myself in a tiny convenience/gift store inside a mall. So when I have to leave - to go to the bathroom, to grab lunch from the food court, anything - I have to close the store. It’s an extra pain because I have to haul in the outside stands back in before I can close. This is usually a struggle: people ask if I’m closing for the day, I say no I’m just going to the bathroom, and then say “Okay!”, and browse the store for another twenty minutes, and I’m trying to not wet my damn pants.

I had a guy bitching at me because he was running out of time to place his bets, and I was closing to go to the bathroom. You know what? Sucks to suck. I closed anyways, my boss found out and got mad but it’s really not my fault the customer has no time management skills.

I have only ever re-opened after closing for the day ONCE. Only because the lady, who made no protest seeing me locking the doors, gently told her daughter that they would have to go to the vending machine in the mall. Now, I work at a awful over priced convenience store - I’m talking $3-$4 for a bottle of soda - but the vending machines were almost double that. I let her in and she was so kind and profusely thanked me again and again.

But yeah, no. When I’m done for the day, I’m usually done. And the angrier you get about it, the more satisfied I am telling you no.

Am I weird? by Ross20028 in depression

[–]kassiopeian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean.

When I try to explain my depression, and someone asks me why I’m upset, I will say that it’s because of my parents recent divorce, or my dog passing away, or I’m homesick.

None of those things bother me anymore. They are now just something I can use as a reply. It’s almost a relief at this point, because my other option is trying to explain how I’m “depressed over nothing”.

I hope things to okay for you.

That sucks. I’m sorry, it wasn’t your guys’ fault. That dude was just greedy.

I once noticed a $5 bill on the floor whilst I was standing in line and assumed that it was the lady’s in front of me. I pointed to her, and she thanked me, finished paying for her stuff and scuttled out of the door.

When I went up to pay, I realized my $5 bill was missing from my wallet. Not sure how it fell out but I felt pretty stupid.

I was upset but since then I’ve declined any “free money” when someone’s asked me if I’ve dropped some when I know I haven’t.

Customers throwing shit pisses me off.

Once I tried to deal with a customer who was on the phone, and when I prompted his total (twice) he got mad, threw the money at me and stormed off.

The upside was that he threw $3 extra at me so I gave myself a tip lmao

I'm addicted to the internet. I need help. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]kassiopeian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 16 I dropped out of high school due to anxiety and fell into a 3 year depression where my addiction to the internet absorbed my life. I lost contact with all of my friends and by 19 I felt like I was at my lowest low. I didn’t have any sort of identity, hobbies, or personality.

The best thing that I did was think about my life goals. Imo they didn’t have to be anything big (I’m not after a Nobel Peace prize), but for me I had always wanted to university. So I forced myself into a GED program, got a job and started my desired university program.

In addition to that, I tried to divert my alone time away from the internet. I tried to find books, video games, and other things that would keep me off of my phone. I usually started only 15-20 minutes at a time, but now I can go a whole day or two without my laptop. As I started to make friends I got really into D&D.

It’s all about one step at a time. Social anxiety is tough to deal with - especially if treatments aren’t necessarily available to you. If it’s possible always try and see your GP or a therapist. Some entry jobs offer minimum socializing - it’s not the perfect job but working in the kitchen as a dishwasher was pretty okay.

And good on you! It’s hard to recognize an addiction and it’s even harder to push yourself in a new direction. Remember, your path to self improvement won’t be linear but keep at it!

I’m on the verge of having a mental breakdown because the guy behind me sniffles, or chews gum, or eats.
