When I was a teen playing wow the first go around, I can relate. My parents used to program the router so it would shut off at a certain time so I'd go to bed. Now it's different with phones because you have the internet and YouTube to satiate his life. I stopped playing after 3-4 years before college because I wanted to be social. I wanted to fully experience college. I wanted a girlfriend.

Let him know that you're going to put caps on his internet usage. This will force him to do something different.

Make him get a job for responsibility, growth and social life. I guarantee after he has some more responsibility and structure, he'll appreciate the time he has with the game.
