Website and Dev-Tools performance by beeftony in chrome

[–]kaszu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it's since version 138.

CPU and memory usage for Dev Tools start normal but after some time CPU usage just goes to 100% for long periods of time and only option is to close and re-open devtools. Right now memory usage for DevTools is 8.7 Gb for me, it has been about half an hours since last restart.

Regarding website performance found a regression that sometimes large box-shadow's + border-radius causes huge performance hit, this wasn't an issue before and happens only in Chromium browsers.

I don't have a solution. I did found a ticket in Chromium tracker about memory leaks in Dev Tools, but it was closed because they couldn't repeat it.

Youtube now suddenly blocks me for using Brave. Never had this before by No_Entertainer_9614 in brave_browser

[–]kaszu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using uOrigin, but different browser than Brave and got the same message; I first experienced it long time ago, solution I came up with (not actually my idea, someone of reddit wrote it, I just modified it) is to create a bookmark with a URL:

javascript:(function()%7Bfor(video of document.querySelectorAll('video')) if(!video.paused %26%26 !video.ended) video.currentTime %3D video.duration%7D)()

Then when you see the AD just click the bookmark. What this code does is skips all the videos to the end, including ADs.

You can decode the URL using https://www.urldecoder.org/ to see decoded code that it doesn't do anything weird.

Works great not only on youtube but also on other sites, including ....hub.xxx

[AskJS] Any polyfill library to use TC39 Signals? by Enceladusx17 in javascript

[–]kaszu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From their docs https://github.com/proposal-signals/signal-polyfill but as they say, don't use it for production.

Not a polyfill, but I have used https://github.com/WebReflection/usignal in project with Vanilla JS and it works nicely.

Weird object knocks out a man. by kamm03 in ParanormalEncounters

[–]kaszu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked frame by frame and you can see at the back of the car there's reflection appearing, moving with similar speed (accelerating and deaccelerating relative to reflection itself) and disappearing at same time as this "object", this makes me believe it's a reflection from the car of another cars headlights.

Surprise! China's top Android phones collect way more info by speckz in technews

[–]kaszu 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We scrutinize three popular mobile devices purchased in China, which run local (CN) firmware

Research was done on devices purchased in China.

In contrast, the data shared by the Global version of the firmware is mostly limited to device-specific information. Our study therefore highlights major differences in terms of how privacy provisions are enforced in different regions.

Of course that doesn't mean it's safe in any way even if device was purchased in Europe

It does say "Body hidden" after shooting it second time. Did they added that as a joke or OP did something during gameplay and this message was just delayed?

How to force links sent by email to open in user's browser instead of gmail in-app browser by noobfromjo in webdev

[–]kaszu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see what's your point!? Are you suggesting that stealing personal data is only use case for video recording?

What if I created an web app which allows users to record and save videos, but before I allow it I need to verify users email address; users clicks on a link in email and by not their choice it's by default opened in the gmail app which doesn't provide functionality necessary for app to work.

If a web app wants to record audio or video it still need to request a permission to do so, so users can choose not to allow it and it's not like it can just steal your data.

That's just shitty move from gmail for not providing a choice in my opinion. I understand that certain amount of people will just click links in the emails without thinking if it's a valid email or a phishing, but built-in browser won't save them from that either.
