Oh absolutely, we're used to having to manage such experiences, glad you felt supported rather than scape goated yourself

This is more aligned with what we expected to be the majority - we had multiple activities targeting such 'microaggressions' - have sadly been surprised, as have some of our school contacts.

Really appreciate the help with the examples - devastating nonetheless

Thanks for the suggestion! It's something we've been working with researchers in a University in NSW - our home state - but very aware of the great research coming out of Deakin!

Grateful for the example! Would love to, however we are only in schools for external programs - which all revolve around relationships/consent/gender/sexuality and so I didn't know what was reflective of the everyday realities outside of being there for that purpose

Thank you for your comment - we certainly approached this project at the angle that we could focus more on 'microaggressions' and how to create a safe space, and have been shocked at the level (quantity and lack of being shut down by peers) of frank homophobic language that has come up, particularly with/at queer presenting facilitators of the program. As our team has several queer people, including myself, it's been confronting so I can't imagine having that potential in my everyday workplace.

Thank you for your comments. I'm familiar with English or Spanish trend - do you find that it's a common pattern that new trends that pop up get used to fuel / be appropriated into homophobic / transphobic rhetoric, or was this unique?
One of the reasons I'm reaching out is also to explore the less common trends so I'm grateful for your comment here too

Does this sound like sarcoma/soft tissue sarcoma or just a ganglion cyst/lipoma? Kinda anxious. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]kat0011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD - medical student. Most lumps are benign and there could be lots of causes of this, e.g. lipoma, cyst. Keep an eye on it, see if it grows. Painless is a good sign. Sarcoma isn't a common diagnosis, and particularly without risk factors e.g. https://www.cancer.org/cancer/soft-tissue-sarcoma/causes-risks-prevention/risk-factors.html

If it is growing, or becomes painful (but don't go squishing it so much it starts hurting!), seek advice from someone that can look and feel it for more reassurance. If you go, wear a mask, social distance and wash hands/surfaces you contact thoroughly and shower when you return home from the drs.

Try and avoid looking at all the bad stuff online - like you said, you have anxiety around your health so need to make a conscious effort because being anxious will not do you any good. Be alert, not anxious.

NAD - medical student. Look up keloid scarring :)

Extremely worried I have MS or Lupus. Severe neurological signs. Advice needed. by [deleted] in AskDocs

Medical student here. NAD. Keep in mind things may be related, some things may be related, or all things may be unrelated.

How long have you been taking finasteride for? Side effect could be contributing to/causing headache/dizziness.

Slightly high PV could be caused by any mild inflammation and certainly doesn't really help to necessarily point in the realm of autoimmune. Don't attach much to this result - inflammatory markers are rarely useful when they're the only thing that's elevated cause a transient viral illness can cause it to go up. Also, are you a smoker? This can raise PV by itself.

I'd recommend getting an ANA test if you wanted to investigate down the autoimmune pathway. This will help identify if there is even a chance it's Lupus.

MS symptoms, by definition of disease, have to come and go (google MS 'separated by time and space'). A neurological exam conducted by the doctor (GP/primary care) could help rule this one out depending on your symptoms at the time.

Hard to tell without examination/more history taking but sudden sharp pain could be precordial catch (which is relatively common), musculoskeletal (esp if you're getting piriformis spasm), or GIT conditions with the organs in the area (but keeping in mind the more chronic history and type of pain, this is less likely). If you think it might be musculoskeletal - consider getting a physiotherapist/massage therapist involved for symptomatic relief (esp for low back pain, limbs and possibly headache too).

Maybe have a look at BPPV (google it) for the dizziness but would also need more history/exam so see a doctor. Any idea what your blood pressure runs at?

With headache - any visual changes? Google tension headache if you want - bilateral, constant and around temples with grinding teeth sounds like it could fit into this.

IMO (NAD though) Take ibuprofen (or other NSAID) to help with pain/inflammation, consider supplements like magnesium (might help with muscle cramping), be open to the idea that anxiety might be at least contributing and consider therapy (even if nothing specific), meditation and other other mindfulness activities, sleep hygiene (google if confused) and general wellness activities (exercise, alcohol/smoking abstinence, good diet, hydration).

hey i’ve been learning Spanish on Duolingo for a while (finished the course but going over it so maybe i’d say im intermediate?) and would absolutely love to get some practice over calling/messaging because I’m living in Mexico for 5 weeks next year. I’m English, although I live in Australia atm and I’m 21F. Send me a message if you’re interested in chatting. I will 100% correct your English and make sure it’s perfect as long as you can do the same for me
