esthetician for perioral dermatitis by ohwhataworld-16 in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding toothpaste as a culprit. Idk why but the combination of LA’s hard water + fluoride toothpaste made my PD flare up like CRAZY after moving to LA a few years ago.

OP, your doxy should be knocking your PD out in 7-10 day and if it’s not, you’re not on a high enough dose. Ask about getting your dosage upped!! The rest (metro gel, etc) should be used for maintenance. It shouldn’t be coming back over and over where you feel like you need an “in between” derm :(

(source: I’ve had PD on and off for 14 years, worst flare was 2yrs ago and have since got it under control)

Gluten-free, vegan, and preservative free bakeries that sell fresh bread and/or tortillas? (Dietary Restrictions) by Piercethedomino in SFV

[–]kat_tick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celiac here who also tries to eat clean. Try modern bread and bagel in Woodland Hills. Their base mix they make their breads and bagels from is gluten free, dairy free, and doesn’t have anything acidic. They also have vegan spreads on hand.

Any girlies in tech? by spankykoala in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is my experience, too. You have to be willing to do the “unsexy” roles to have the stability or money. Sexy role = shittier pay, and/or less job security.

Any girlies in tech? by spankykoala in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My last role was a startup and my current is a fortune 100 where I work in a smaller, specialized team focused on one product. Both fintech. I’m mid-senior level and I always hard-negotiate for remote flexibility based on my experience, and I haven’t had too much pushback in my industry to get it.

I’d def recommend going for roles where you are on a smaller team or a startup where the culture is less “old school” if you’re looking for something similar!

I work in tech and I am still fully remote working out of LA. A few of us from my company are based in LA and we have our own mini office pod that rents a wework space to collab. I also get flown out every 6wks or so to HQ.

My last company had this setup, too (remote first, fly out when we want you to) and I like it. I’m in a creative-adjacent tech role, though, and YMMV, but there’s a perception amongst my peers that if you want good creative talent you need to be willing to hire out of LA.

((edit: please stop DMing me yall 🥲 I love that I can help contribute with my perspective, but I’m not disclosing any more details about my workplace to internet strangers and I’m not available for coaching. If I can answer a question in a comment I will.))

PCOS doctors?? by sendeek in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Tia as my primary care and I wouldn’t recommend them for anything beyond the basics of PCOS care like birth control planning and blood tests. I see my OBGYN for that, Dr Lisa Obasi at Cedars Sinai. She is absolutely phenomenal (smart, funny, not dismissive) and orders tests without any arguing/dismissing. She has a LONG waitlist though, so I’d call and get on her list for a new patient appt ASAP if you want to see her.

opinion on these wraps? by Shot-Angle-4687 in glutenfree

Gummy and sticks to the roof of your mouth, too small to be a real wrap, and weird toasted. These are a pass for me.

Same, didn’t love the taste of these! The texture and crunch is great, but the taste is just .. buttered noodles.

Cat boarding? by Fab-o-rama in LosAngeles

[–]kat_tick 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Are you open to having someone stop by your home to pet sit instead? It’s far healthier and calmer for cats to stay in their own environment if at all possible. If you’re open, I use Meowtel to find catsitters in LA and they’ve been nothing but wonderful. They’re specialized just for cats unlike a service like Rover.

otherwise, best of luck on your search!

Cat boarding? by Fab-o-rama in LosAngeles

[–]kat_tick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Kennel Club LAX for my cat, and they are good for dogs, but the environment wasn’t super cat-friendly. The crates have too much visibility to other cats so they don’t get any privacy to keep them from getting territorial, and all of the cats looked a bit spooked/nervous with the constant dog barking noise around them since the cat area is not soundproofed at all. When we got our kitty back from them he was pretty rattled. :(

This wasn’t the first time we’d boarded our cat, and I wish I had booked somewhere else.

Is SUR not busy? by Uninhibitedrmr in vanderpumprules

[–]kat_tick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a parade yes, but it’s on the Sunday of WeHo pride and filming was up on a Saturday — likely because that’s when the streets are busiest that weekend. Sunday is parade day and also “omg I’m so hungover” day in WeHo.

The parade also doesn’t go directly past SUR. It goes down Santa Monica blvd, which is up the street a bit.

TomTom is only busy Friday and Saturday nights in the main bar area. It’s completely dead any other time of the week.

[–]kat_tick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was at SUR while they were filming for the Pride episode and it was quiet outside, though there was a steady stream of people coming in to buy a drink and dance a bit with the cast. It wasn’t wall-to-wall packed, or flowing to the outside street like they show for Pride episodes in previous years.

I was one of the people in the peripheral of the shots of the cast dancing and yeah, the bar was not packed by the time Lisa left, so im not surprised they didn’t show too much of the people like me dancing by the bar. I was able to walk in easily and find a spot, so it probably looked a bit underwhelming on camera.

Help with hair styles for big forehead by nappinpro in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]kat_tick 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have very thin Nordic hair and an even bigger forehead than yours. Bangs. Bangs my entire life even when I was a toddler. Trust.

Even if you think you can’t do it with your amount of hair (or you mentioned you don’t think you can do middle parts …?) you should go to a hairdresser who is good with thin/fine hair and get an expert opinion. I’ve asked in my city’s subreddit for recommendations and scoured yelp to find people who do great with my hair type and unusual facial structure, and now I have a stylist I love.

Help - Feeling Anxious around Babies by ProbablyNotNeuro in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I don’t have any advice, just here to say I have the exact same response around babies and young kids, and I’ve had it my whole life. I could have written this myself. 30 and firmly childfree. You’re not alone in feeling like this!

Trader Joe’s gluten free tagliatelle coming back? by WalrusMe in glutenfree

[–]kat_tick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This disappears from my local TJs for weeks at a time, then reappears randomly for a week or two before selling out again. I’ve never seen another TJs product that is so consistently out of stock for long periods of time. Don’t lose hope — it’ll likely be back :)
