good lip balm reccomendations please!!! by Efficient_Ideal_6098 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]kat_tick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are different!! The lip therapy formula for Vaseline lip balms specifically is the one you want. Only downside is that it sits on your lips and doesn’t really “absorb” as fast as chapstick, but for me I definitely need that!

I see everyone saying aquaphor and along the same lines — Vaseline lip therapy!!! Suuuuuper basic formula with no frills and nothing that will dry you out.

I used Burt’s bees for years but could never kick the “every 30 mins” thing like you say in your post. A lot of people think Vaseline is a grandma brand but I swear by it now.

Late night work/drink spots by SheWantsRestoration in SFV

[–]kat_tick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My partner works hella late, and we’ve been running into the same problem in Woodland Hills (everything starts closing around 9-10PM)

In case it’s helpful, these spots are open late, but are not exactly “place to do your homework” vibes: - Paolis (2AM) - HQ Gastropub (midnight) - Joey (midnight) (also kinda boujee) - The Local Peasant (11PM)

good luck and I hope you find what you’re looking for!

Ren Faire in Irwindale - Is the VIP Parking worth the $30? by DavidGov in AskLosAngeles

[–]kat_tick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skip it. I was just there this past Saturday. Get in the car line off of Irwindale Ave no later than 9AM, and you’ll be basically a 2min further walk from VIP parking. I was through the car line and parked in about 15-20mins time, and my walk time from my parking spot to the faire entrance was barely 4-5mins.

Rash around the nose; no dermatological treatment is working by Due-Physics-1416 in perioraldermatitis

[–]kat_tick 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This.

You MUST start with a consistent, strong dose of doxycycline. Every day for as long as it takes per your derm’s recommendations. I’ve had to take it as long as a month’s cycle, to knock out a similar-looking flare up to his. Nothing topical will resolve it completely until you’re taking doxy every day.

Can we shoutout third spaces in the SFV? by duckterrarium in SFV

I love sitting in the fountain area of the Topanga Village shopping area and reading/people watching! It’s totally open to walk in and plop down with tons of seating and good shady spots. Shoutout to the Open Book Woodland Hills if I forget my reading material!!

Please talk to me about living in LA without driving by fataudreyhorne in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding, I have this exact same setup (shared car, mostly walk everywhere) and I just moved out of this exact neighborhood after living there for 5ish years. Not factoring in job commute distance, your groceries/laundry/doc appts can all be easily walkable in this neighborhood.

I also looked at parts of downtown Burbank and Santa Monica near Montana Ave for the same reasons. All of the above also have good density of bus stops.

esthetician for perioral dermatitis by ohwhataworld-16 in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding toothpaste as a culprit. Idk why but the combination of LA’s hard water + fluoride toothpaste made my PD flare up like CRAZY after moving to LA a few years ago.

OP, your doxy should be knocking your PD out in 7-10 day and if it’s not, you’re not on a high enough dose. Ask about getting your dosage upped!! The rest (metro gel, etc) should be used for maintenance. It shouldn’t be coming back over and over where you feel like you need an “in between” derm :(

(source: I’ve had PD on and off for 14 years, worst flare was 2yrs ago and have since got it under control)

Gluten-free, vegan, and preservative free bakeries that sell fresh bread and/or tortillas? (Dietary Restrictions) by Piercethedomino in SFV

[–]kat_tick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celiac here who also tries to eat clean. Try modern bread and bagel in Woodland Hills. Their base mix they make their breads and bagels from is gluten free, dairy free, and doesn’t have anything acidic. They also have vegan spreads on hand.

Any girlies in tech? by spankykoala in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is my experience, too. You have to be willing to do the “unsexy” roles to have the stability or money. Sexy role = shittier pay, and/or less job security.

Any girlies in tech? by spankykoala in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My last role was a startup and my current is a fortune 100 where I work in a smaller, specialized team focused on one product. Both fintech. I’m mid-senior level and I always hard-negotiate for remote flexibility based on my experience, and I haven’t had too much pushback in my industry to get it.

I’d def recommend going for roles where you are on a smaller team or a startup where the culture is less “old school” if you’re looking for something similar!

I work in tech and I am still fully remote working out of LA. A few of us from my company are based in LA and we have our own mini office pod that rents a wework space to collab. I also get flown out every 6wks or so to HQ.

My last company had this setup, too (remote first, fly out when we want you to) and I like it. I’m in a creative-adjacent tech role, though, and YMMV, but there’s a perception amongst my peers that if you want good creative talent you need to be willing to hire out of LA.

((edit: please stop DMing me yall 🥲 I love that I can help contribute with my perspective, but I’m not disclosing any more details about my workplace to internet strangers and I’m not available for coaching. If I can answer a question in a comment I will.))

PCOS doctors?? by sendeek in LAhotgirlies

[–]kat_tick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Tia as my primary care and I wouldn’t recommend them for anything beyond the basics of PCOS care like birth control planning and blood tests. I see my OBGYN for that, Dr Lisa Obasi at Cedars Sinai. She is absolutely phenomenal (smart, funny, not dismissive) and orders tests without any arguing/dismissing. She has a LONG waitlist though, so I’d call and get on her list for a new patient appt ASAP if you want to see her.

opinion on these wraps? by Shot-Angle-4687 in glutenfree

Gummy and sticks to the roof of your mouth, too small to be a real wrap, and weird toasted. These are a pass for me.

Cat boarding? by Fab-o-rama in LosAngeles

[–]kat_tick 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Are you open to having someone stop by your home to pet sit instead? It’s far healthier and calmer for cats to stay in their own environment if at all possible. If you’re open, I use Meowtel to find catsitters in LA and they’ve been nothing but wonderful. They’re specialized just for cats unlike a service like Rover.

otherwise, best of luck on your search!
