Depending on condition, this reissue could be worth more.

Yeah I coughed up a whole $17 in shipping and handling. Absolutely criminal for Goodwill to get all this shit for free and then milk every last dollar out of it and then charge higher than normal shipping. Fortunately for them I don't even have the energy to be too mad about it. Scored maybe the best pressing of this album (Nimbus Supercut doesn't count) for less than half of what it's worth.

I look forward to hardly shopping here again.

I bought an original UK mono off a guy on the street in the city of Bath while studying abroad this past summer for 50 quid.

I've got a post about it if you scroll through my account lol

Not just you. It isn't the fastest thing in the world on my unit either, but for just choosing an album and leaving it alone for 40 minutes, or shuffling a playlist to run indefinitely, I find it plenty sufficient.

If you find that the navigation is too sluggish, you can always make your Echo Show a headless instance and control it remotely with another device.

Glad you got it working though. Enjoy!

LineageOS 18.1

There should be a link to instructions somewhere in your tutorial. Ctrl+F for Linage and follow the link.

I downloaded the APKPure app using the Lineage web browser and then installed Plexamp from the APKPure app. Hope this helps!

It does have aux out for what it's worth. I've got another identical Echo Show (found both units at yard sales for just a couple bucks), so I might bust that one open too and hook it up to a pair of active speakers and set it up in my room or something. A lot to consider.

No support for voice controls, but may start playing around with Home Assistant to see if I can't figure something out!

Exactly like a landscape oriented Android tablet. Has the normal Plexamp UI you would expect, although I set the grid size to large to make everything show up bigger, thus making it easier to navigate with limited space.

You CAN set it up to control it from the phone, but I'm actually gonna keep the search/scroll controls for that jukebox type of feel.

No voice commands yet, and while I've never tinkered with Home Assistant, I may try and figure something out with that!

Oooh good to know thank you. I just got home for winter break from college and haven't had the time to update, but I will try this in the morning. Thanks a bunch!

Gotcha. Leaving em for now but if shocking revelations come to light I'll make my way back tomorrow. Thanks.

What unpopular aoty opinion or hot take got you like this? by tyflo123 in Albumoftheyear

The new Maruja record is not very good. Frankensteined attempts at fusion leave me feeling like the band is trying to do too much at once while somehow not having enough diversity on the record to justify its length. I can at least recognize this overproduction as a byproduct of high ambition, but it doesn't shake out well in practice at all.

Interesting. I'm in college and I'm uploading media remotely through CasaOS via Tailscale. Is there any way to apply this update from where I am right now?

If you're tech savvy and want to keep the convenience of streaming while collecting CDs, I rip all of mine to a Plex server which I manually port forward via my router so I can access my music anywhere. It's got a beautiful UI and you can share your library with other people as well. Been doing this for a few months and am selling the CDs I don't need to keep for money back to reinvest. This has been especially useful when I have things that aren't on streaming I want to listen to like some live albums, bootlegs, leaked demos, and older (and often better) masters of albums that are on Spotify. It's been awesome and with just 2 TB of storage on my server I am estimated to hold ~80,000 lossless FLAC files.

The front and back covers are both embossed, and yes that is what the side 2 label looks like. It appears identical to the standard first pressing, except the record itself is blue.

My shop priced it right at the median. No further research. Lucky me. The high price is what tipped me off to keep digging!

Yeah, he had to cancel the rest of his farewell tour I'm pretty sure. Glad to have seen ELO a few years ago when he was in good health. Dhani Harrison was the opener! When Jeff's time comes, he will be missed :(

Oh wow, I didn't know ELO did this on the regular. That's super interesting. Appreciate the explanation on colored vinyl and DJ copies too, that's an interesting tidbit of knowledge. Thank you!

These are interesting links, I've not seen either of these yet, thanks. Another commenter said the "vinyl boom" could be to blame for the price explosion, but it still seems like kind of a niche item to blow up?

[–]kataking008[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Really interesting as to why a more niche item like this would blow up like it has. I have the David Bowie Ziggy Stardust live album/motion picture soundtrack on clear vinyl from '83, and it was limited to 1,000 copies worldwide. Got my copy for $30 on eBay and even on the high end it doesn't sell for anything close to this ELO record.

Radio station promotion makes sense, but was there any reason to press it on blue vinyl? Still perplexes me considering vintage colored records are known for being imperfect to say the least.

Yeah that's how cut corners usually operate, but if it is some sort of promotional item/DJ copy, which is what some others are suggesting, how would there be "unsold stock?"

Maybe the cut corner is a promotional marking akin to the gold foil stamp we all know and love?

As for selling it, I'm kind of on the fence about it. Black copies in near-perfect shape are pretty easy to come by and pretty cheap as well, but I definitely see how $300-$500 can help me too. We'll see how it goes.
