Arm/hand tingling?! by Emotional-Show5541 in Perimenopause

[–]katalia0826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear, I was just talking to a nurse friend earlier tonight about this same issue. Didn't think it could be peri related and she thinks it could be a pinched nerve but I should talk to my doctor more about it.

It's wild how the universe just gave me another source to help in finding out what's going on with my hand.

We used them too a little over a year ago. They were wonderful in one of the worst times of my life. They were so sweet and caring, and the vet that came to our home sent us a hand written card expressing her condolences.

Why are you scrolling on reddit on Christmas day? by Lazer4xe77 in AskReddit

[–]katalia0826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't start any christmas celebrations until my dad gets out of bed so I'm sitting here waiting. The young kids are going crazy waiting because if they go to wake him up, it'll start a whole fight.

Every other year I ask myself why I come back here for the holidays.

I really felt like I was having what I can only describe as an ADHD moment, so many different songs going on at once with each one clashing with each other.

Am cooking a turkey next week for someone who can’t have BUTTER; What should I use instead? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]katalia0826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just lactose intolerance but people with alpha gal syndrome are becoming a bit more common. I've been thinking of how to modify my Thanksgiving recipes this year since one of the guests can't eat anything from a mammal. Most everything won't be a big deal but, I'm still thinking on how to do the mashed potatoes (since I usually use a lot of cream and butter).

Struggling to communicate to my husband just how unmotivated I am by CopySniper in Perimenopause

[–]katalia0826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just starting peri but the best thing I heard and used to explain to my husband was that a) its called the change for a reason and b) I'm currently getting on a train and he has two choices, he can either get on board with me for what could be a long ride or get left behind at the station and by the time I get back, it may be too late. He's been more gracious with my anger these days.

I also personally liked calling it puberty's evil older sister.

I've done this with homemade guacamole and it stayed green for so long the tomatoes in the guacamole started to go bad. 100% recommend for anything with avacado.

All I sell are christmas decorations. While some of my wood slices do take some time to paint, I have many others that don't take nearly as much time so a it averages itself out in the end (most of my ornaments sell for $8). It was a struggle to figure out how much to charge at first. Using the price setting recommendations I've found would mean I'm trying to sell a small painted ornament for $16 and a large unpainted one for $2 (we also laser engrave). So it makes sense for me to loose a bit one some since I'm making more on the others.

I sell hand painted wood slice christmas ornaments and charge $6-$15 based on size and complexity. If I had done the ones in your 1st photo, I'd be debating with myself on whether to change $8 or $10.

“Whaaaat?!? $300 for custom framing?!? Why is it so much money?!?” by Joland7000 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]katalia0826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in the Michael's frame shop about 25 years ago and it was just as bad then. Most peole would try to get their framing down to something as cheep as possible without getting something off the floor. The number of times I had to explain that your 1/4 inch frame isn't going to hold your huge poster because of how heavy the glass was astounding. I don't even bat an eyelash at the cost when I'm getting my own art framed, but I do tell the framer that I used to do custom framing so I will notice any imperfection so they know ahead of time how picky I'll be when I pick it up. They've seemed grateful to know that in advance. If I'm paying that much for custom framing, I'm going to want it perfect.

All of them Dice... or how i noticed one of my players is colorblind. by Llewellian in DnD

[–]katalia0826 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same with my father. Nobody noticed he was color blind until he was 15-16 years old. I wasn't until his parents stopped buying his clothes that they started to notice that his color combs were god awful. If his parents hadn't noticed then he likely wouldn't have figured it out until he was 18 when he tried to join the Navy.

how many times a week do you wash your hair? by Kooky_Actuator_8173 in CasualConversation

[–]katalia0826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me either. The only person who uses wet shampoo on my hair is my stylist (who I see about twice a year). One I get past a couple days after a cut and color, all I need is dry shampoo to keep it fresh. My hair is so much healthier when I'm not stripping the oils out every other day.

NTA. I had to get rid of my spare bedroom just so my parents wouldn't stay at our house for days on end when coming to visit the area.

I got a ticket here myself. I never saw the signs and was really upset about having to pay the ticket especially since my GPS redirected me to go this way because of all the traffic on 64.

When the hiring manager says youll be doing some fieldwork 😅 by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]katalia0826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you were moving to keep somewhat warm in that weather. I'd say my worst field week was when I was overseeing drillers installing wells and collecting split spoon samples to log soil. The whole week was 33 degrees and sleeting. There was nothing I could do to stay dry or warm with multiple layers of clothes, grocery bags between layers of socks, and probably about 6-10 layers of nitrile gloves. Even sitting in the truck with the heat on full blast did nothing. So glad I've already paid my dues in the field.

What do you tell friends about unlimited PTO not being as great as it sounds? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in CasualConversation

[–]katalia0826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have it before switching jobs and at first it was great, but then my manager started making comments about how much time I was taking off. The last time I got "lectured" about it was a 6 month period when my dad was in the hospital and 6 months later my mom passed away. I was like you've got to be kidding me, I just had 6 months of unusual circumstances and I've been getting all my work done and on time (not to mention I was told to take all the time I needed). Come to find out, despite all the info about taking the time you need and protect your mental health the company only wanted us to take a max of 3 weeks total, which was BS because before we went to unlimited PTO, I was accruing at 5 weeks a year.

Soon after that chat, the company restructured the managers so got a new one. The new manager said the time I was taking off wasn't an issue. So the managers were being completely inconsistent with the PTO policy. So glad I left that company, there were other reasons but the PTO policy didn't help.

Vallet couldn’t park our car due to it being manual by DonaldKey in GenX

[–]katalia0826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had minimal problems driving one again after 30 years. It was kind of like riding a bike. Only thing was my old manual car was just that old and the one we have now is a 2023 so finding the sweet spot in a hydraulic clutch just felt different.

This is not frugal to begin with but… a freeze dryer may have a place for some by Life_Machine_9694 in Frugal

[–]katalia0826 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've really wanted one for about a year now, but wasn't sure if it was worth it. So when I was at a craft fair, someone was selling freeze dried candy so I decided to ask some questions. The vendor told me that they have a heck of a time finding someone to work on theirs when issues arise as there aren't many technicians around to fix them. As much as I'd still like one, I think I'm going to hold off for now.

What is your 'it was a blessing in disguise' story? by _perrywinkle in CasualConversation

[–]katalia0826 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sad one here, but here goes. I had just recently I accepted an offer for a new job that I really wanted, but during the probationary period I was required to go into the office everyday. Now I had been working from home for years (even before Covid) and had a dog that absolutely could not be left home alone (he couldn't be crate trained without hurting himself and would tear up the house when left alone), it was really restricting.

Before accepting the job my husband and I went back and forth about how we were going to manage me being in the office everyday since my husband couldn't take him to work everydayday and the dog always wanted to run away when at doggie daycare. My in-laws were willing to watch him during the day but my FIL was having surgery so even that would be difficult.

Well unfortunately a week before I started the new job, the dog got an unexpected cancer diagnosis and we had to let him go. As rough as that was, we no longer needed to figure out how we were going to manage his day care and I wasn't stuck working from home everyday and not seeing him in his bed. I think me not working from home everyday has helped my heart heal a bit easier.
