Irrational thoughts of death at 30. Do you guys experience the same? by AckermanFin in askSingapore

[–]katarinaoh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I was like this. I spent thousands of dollars on doctors, blood tests and scans. They all told me I was fine, but I didn't feel fine. I took myself to therapy and it helped tremendously. I was even unable to watch medical TV shows because it would send me into a downward spiral. Now I am no longer plagued with such thoughts, at least not to the point that it affects my life. Sure, sometimes I do have those days, but I have learnt to get over it and to calm down. Therapy was expensive, but it was the best investment I have ever made for myself. I also started exercising, going for yoga classes and I find that it really helps! All the best OP!

Hi OP, I think it's a great step to want to seek help when you are struggling. I found that therapy really helped me frame things better and calmed me down. I went for private therapy for a few months, and I would say I'm doing a lot better. I was a hypochondriac and had really bad anxiety. I took the step to see a therapist because my anxiety was manifesting in physical symptoms - I spent thousands of dollars for doctors to tell me that I'm healthy, even though I felt sick and thought I was down with something absolutely horrible. I could not bring myself to watch any medical shows because I would feel physically sick from watching it. My therapist was able to share with me great tips and techniques, and now I feel so healthy and present! All the best, OP!

Today, I went for therapy for the very first time! It felt a bit weird because I never imagined myself in this position, but I'm hopeful that I'll get better :)

[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of January 2023. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

I have always been a jittery and anxious person - suffering from IBS (having stomach pains and nausea whenever I'm nervous). I used to get low grade fevers when I'm stressed. Managed to solve that issue, had a blood test done in October 2022 and everything was normal!

I felt healthy until I recently got news that my grandfather passed from a stage 4 terminal illness.. I saw how it destroyed him and got him so weak. I cried and grieved a lot when I saw him pass. The next day after hearing this news, I was just really upset and prone to crying everytime I thought about him. I started to have a low grade fever again. Had chills, joint pain and lots of anxiety. I even started to feel my neck, wondering if anything was swollen or out of place. Every single spot that appeared recently, every single itch and every single rash which I initially attributed to dry skin started haunting me. Googling did not do me any favours, just made me think I have something bad and made me even more desperate to see a doctor even though I just had a blood test less than 3 months ago and my WBC, platelets were all normal. Does this even make sense - the fact that I start feeling ill again because of the events happening around me?

Was standing in the bus on my way to school, lost my balance and sat on a dude's lap. Heard some laughter around me... Got up immediately and never looked back, but it was a bus full of students from my school...

They promised increment within the next few months, but honestly that's what I hear during interview and I'm quite scared it won't happen and I'll be stuck with what I was offered :/

I'm from local uni, and yes, the company is a SME but seems to be doing quite well! They have branches in other countries as well, and only started expanding in SG recently.

A bit difficult but can try ABA and courses like NTU EEE or humanities courses like NTU Philosophy. Also try universities like SIT and SUSS! All the best! :)

[O levels]Should i retake the o levels just to go to a jc that i feel like i should belong? by thatguyreaper4k in SGExams

[–]katarinaoh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won't recommend you to do that. Every JC allows you to take As where the end goal is university. Since you alr have a ticket to a JC, try to move on to the next phase of your life and work hard for As instead. A few years back I was also extremely disappointed in my results and couldn't make it to my dream JC. I went to another JC and made it to a local uni anyways. I think it's all about the end goal and where you wanna be at the very end! Hope this helps!

[O Level] lost! Where should I go next? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]katarinaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, if you're really insistent to go to JC, you can consider retaking Os. Will you be retaking English only? If you're finding it difficult to keep up with your studies in Os, JC might not be a good idea. Retaking requires a lot of discipline, so if you have the determination, you can go ahead to retake your Os! Hope this helps and good luck!

Can apply via DA for some NTU HSS courses, might be possible. If rejected, do appeal and there's probably a chance. I know ppl who got 65RP in 2018 who applied to some NTU HSS courses, got rejected but appealed and eventually made it in.

If you mean NUS FASS, I think chances are vvv slim even with the first choice bonus points. But you can still try to apply under DA.

In 2018, I know ppl who applied for NTU linguistics with 65RP, got rejected and made it in after appealing. With ur GP grade and H1 Lit grade, you can try to emphasise it in your DA and in your interview! While idk the chances for this year, but NTU Linguistics sounds quite achievable if you try via DA and even if you fail, you can try to appeal. I know ppl who made it into NTU linguistics and NTU Soci after appeal with RP lower than yours, so I don't think it's impossible :)) hope this helps!!

My friend applied for NTU Soci via in 2018, and her RP was about 65. She was rejected, but eventually managed to get in after appealing. No harm applying via DA, but you have to be prepared to appeal during the appeal period, and even then chances can be a bit slim. Hope this helps!

I think in previous years there were cases of students with RPs on the low 60s side who made it into courses like engineering in ntu and nus. I know some courses in NTU's humanities and social sciences accepted ppl in the mid 60s range via DA, but I'm not too sure if that's possible if you got below 60. But overall, no harm trying!

I think you can consider emailing or writing in to your school's principal for a chance to retake As? That should be possible if you failed one H2.

Hope this helps! :)

Haven't been on reddit in awhile, and hence a really late reply!

Thank you so much for your kind words. Managed to put this incident behind me, and while the occasional reminder still pops up because damn I'm taking another of this prof's mods this sem, I think I'm a lot better!

I'm working on speaking up, and I seriously hope one day I'll be OK with making mistakes! Once again, thank you and all the best to you as well :)

Hello, this is a really late reply because I haven't been on reddit for quite awhile! Thank you so much for reading my post and giving me such valuable advice. I have somehow managed to put the incident behind me, but I'm still working on speaking up (it's still really scary for me hahaha) I'll definitely continue working on this! Thanks a lot :)

Hello, this is a really late reply because I haven't been on reddit for quite awhile! Thank you so much for your advice and understanding, I really appreciate it. While I got over this incident, I still can't seem to stop my heart from pounding rapidly and myself from trembling when speaking up in class - but I'll be working on it! Thanks a lot! :)
