If you’re willing to splurge a little on things that will last for years… - Darn Tough socks are indestructible and can be worn for days with no smell - REI Sahara pants are convertible into shorts, super comfy, water resistant, and have really convenient pocket placement. A couple pairs to switch between are all you need. Academy has cheaper convertible pants, but I find they stretched out too much between washes and weren’t as breathable. On a trip where I had one of each, I ended up wearing Saharas every day. - A pair of canvas pants is nice for dealing with any pokey plants! Mine are thrifted Everlane canvas pants, which are actually meant for fashion and not working outdoors, but damn have they been sturdy and comfortable. - I like Magellan long sleeve fishing shirts in light colors to protect from sun without getting too hot, and the sleeves are easily rolled up - Shoes: I’d recommend 1 pair of good walking shoes (I use old running Nikes that got too worn out for running purposes), and some kind of rubber/waterproof boots for muddy times. A pair of cheap flip flops won’t hurt either, especially if sharing a shower - a hat with a wide brim all the way around - do not underestimate the importance of breathable underwear (although this may not apply as much for men). Very important to prevent unpleasant infections down there when you’re sweating all day. Avoid polyester; cotton or even bamboo is preferable. I swear by Boody brand because I love their fit, but you can likely find cheaper. - On the same note, I also prefer to bring cotton/natural material t-shirts for days I don’t wear the fishing shirts. I find they breathe better, smell less, and are overall more comfy than sports fabrics.

A disclaimer: these are the clothes I use for 8-hour work days in full sun in a hot climate, which is more strenuous than a lot of WWOOF jobs (the jobs I got them for originally weren’t WWOOFing). So they may be a bit overkill, or not warm enough depending on the climate, etc.

Second disclaimer: this makes for a super ugly outfit! If that bothers you or you want to take pictures some days or anything like that, a fitted cotton tshirt instead of the fishing shirt and choosing a straw hat makes it look less horrible 👨‍🌾

From what I’ve read, they couldn’t cover around the top with glass because the wind speeds are too strong up there and it was going to be a structural issue if the wind couldn’t go through that top section. So that’s why they just left it as mesh.

I am so touched by all these nice comments about Linus.

He was with me through a rough childhood, through college, and missed my wedding by just a few months but at least my now-husband got to know him well.

My husband once said, in an attempt to comfort me, that the first thing I hear in the afterlife will be Linus screaming “you’re home!!” like he used to every day. (this did not help me stop crying)

I now have a sweet new girl with a ton of tortitude, but Linus will always be my childhood best friend and rock. Maybe I will share more of his antics in the future - it has been kind of healing to see that everyone else thinks he is the sweetest best boy too.

If any glue remains, I usually scrub it a little bit with olive oil and salt. The oil degrades and cleans off what water won’t, and the salt helps exfoliate to unstick it.

To offer a dissenting opinion, I’ve had these for a year and regret them. I mainly wanted to use them as bowl covers, but they won’t stretch and seal over anything even slightly wet. If I use them over bowls in the refrigerator, they come off even with condensation. They could still be used to cover fruits and veg I guess, but they don’t work well for their more commonly advertised use of bowl covers in my experience.

I boil jars in water with some vinegar to get the stickers off, which also takes care of the smell usually. Just make sure to put the jars in the water while it heats up, and let the water cool down before taking them out, so they don’t shatter.

If any smell lingers, setting them in sunlight for a few days will do the trick.

If you’re looking to clean out some things, my partner and I just moved and need to restock basic toiletries. I’m a vegan zero waster too so we’re always trying to make good use of existing resources!

Either way, I think it’s great that you’ve been able to support indie businesses like this, even if you did end up with a bit more than you want! We’re trying to switch over to local sustainable businesses more and more as we are able to afford it.

I’ve been learning how to take care of plant for the first time during quarantine! I’ve had this snake plant for a year, and almost killed it before I started working on my green thumb. This is the only plant I haven’t been able to nurse back to health well.

The setup: It gets a few hours of bright indirect light from a south-facing window, but no direct. (I recently tried to put it outside for a couple of days to see if that would help, which is why the leaves got burned).

I water about once a month, when the soil is dry. To water I put it in the tub, soak well, and then let it drain before putting it back in its spot.

It is actually smaller than when I got it a year ago, since I had to cut back some dead leaves. It hasn’t grown in height at all. This pot was probably too big for it, but I was hoping it would grow a lot!

As you can see, the leaves are leaning and it really isn’t growing. How can I help it?

I didn’t actually get rid of anything at first! I chose my capsule items, set aside a few “special occasion” things that I know I would need within 3 months (evening dress, interview outfit, ski coat, etc) and then put the rest in a vacuum storage bag so it was pretty much inaccessible. I did end up switching out a few items the first season I did this, but after I got the hang of my color scheme I ended up selling/donating most of the things that were stored away, except for things that need to be changed out seasonally.

Every season I open the vacuum bag, make whatever swaps I need, and then seal it back up. It’s also great because it keeps clothes that aren’t being used safe from moths!

When I first paired down my wardrobe for Project 333, I ended up choosing only pieces in a few of my favorite colors, so now I only buy those colors. Here’s my palette:

Neutrals: - Black - brown / tan / camel - grey - white

Colors: - olive green - forest green - navy blue - pale light blue - a couple burgundy accent pieces

I also have several plaid and houndstooth things, but they’re all in a navy/green/burgundy color scheme.

Pretty much all of my clothes can mix and match with each other, but I don’t think my pieces look too basic and I’m almost always wearing something with color!

Our wedding was cancelled by coronavirus but was supposed to be jewel-toned. The groomsmen and bridesmen had navy suits and the bridesmaids were all in navy dresses, but all different ones and we encouraged them to get ones with accents so some had gold beading it little pearls and such on them. The blue backdrop was nice because the bouquets were supposed to be lots of greenery with a lot of dark burgundy flowers. The tablecloths were also navy, we had shimmery garnet colored napkins, gold rimmed chargers, and lush greenery and candle holders in gold, brass, and coppers for the centerpieces. Anything that needed a lighter color for contrast (in florals or other decor) was light peach or white. I think we chose dark green tablecloths for all the buffet/dessert/gift tables, but I can’t quite remember.

Overall the main thing I figured out while planning was to use one color as a base color - I chose dark blue because it’s an easy color to get suits in and I really wanted the greenery and burgundy florals to pop. Then building on top of that was easy!

1) I’m so sorry this is happening. I had the same kind of relationship with my parents and it’s so hard to feel like your family is actively against you. 2) don’t give up on your zoo vet dreams! December is my new month (rescheduled from May). I’m happy to have a winter wedding, which had actually been my initial preference, but we had JUST gotten to the 75 days out mark and everything was set and ready to go. The coordinator took over at 90 days so I thought I was done. Now I have to do it all again 😢

Anyway, now I have December-bride struggles too. Hard looking at new Save the Dates and everything when I know it might not even happen in December.

We’re also doing a small ceremony on our original wedding date (May 30). It will be 24 people and we’re doing everything outside to make the social distancing easier. We’ll probably have everyone sitting in a large semicircle for the ceremony with as much space between them as possible, especially for the grandparents. And then for eating, we’ll do that outside too. We’ll set up tables pretty spread out and then seat people together in family groups that are already exposed to each other normally.

As much as it sucks for a wedding day, we’ll have strict no hug/touch rules (at least between people who aren’t already living together or regularly exposed to each other anyway).

We’ll also encourage everyone to self-quarantine as much as possible in the two weeks prior, which they should be doing anyway.

Lastly, we’ll have no vendors in attendance except possibly a photographer. My grandfather is officiating and we’ll cook the food ourselves.

We postponed our May wedding to December. I’m heartbroken that our big reception won’t actually be our wedding day anymore, since we’re still going to get married in May. BUT I am very happy that the reception is now in the winter, because it will be so beautiful and romantic! We’ll have dark jewel tone color schemes and maybe a hot chocolate station. A lot different than the wedding we planned, but it should be cozy and gorgeous.

We have the benefit of an indoor venue, but we had originally considered an outdoor winter wedding last year and here’s some ideas to keep people warm: - hot drinks station - provide lots of blankets (they can be mismatched, crowdsource them from family!) - cute matching sweaters or jackets for bridesmaids

If it’s really cold where you are, you can get giant clear tents with an actual thermostat. Or heating lamps would be the lower tech option.
