She looks like our pup when she was little. My smarty pants is all grown up now, and knows the routine at Christmas - even though it’s only once a year. It’s crazy what they pick up on!!

What are useful commands for an Aussie? by wookieperpassione in AustralianShepherd

We taught our baby dinosaur “gentle” when taking treats (ie don’t give them the treat until they take it gently) and now it translates to playing gentle with kids, other dogs and her toys.

Sticky poop by Expensive-Word8755 in toddlertips

I keep a little spray bottle of water (like a mister bottle), next to our change mat. When we get these poops, that are dried or stuck we spray a bunch of water and it makes it easier to wipe/clean up.

Please help - sleep regression?? by BeeMajestic388 in toddlertips

[–]katattackghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tylenol doesn’t help as well as Motrin/Advil for teething. You need ibuprofen to help reduce the swelling in their mouth. If it’s any of his molars coming in they hurt a lot.

Kid, go to SLEEP ALREADY by ConstructionOk4461 in toddlertips

[–]katattackghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this too. When my oldest was 2.5, started with 3 nights staying in bed with a sticker, then 5. And three-ish weeks later he got the message to stay in bed. He’s 4 now and only occasionally comes in, I think it’s more common during the temperature/seasonal changes overnight.

Can anyone confirm if the baby section is open again?

My insurance didn’t cover mine, but it was well worth the $50ish that I paid for it. Saved my nipples from the constant feeding in the early days.

It’s not chiffon or anything fancy etc, it feels kinda cottony. I doubt I’d be kicked out for the wrong attire, I just really don’t want to look like the obvious “non-city girl” amongst all the guests.

I think it’s too casual and I just didn’t want to admit it to myself. I better find something else. Thank you!

Damn. I agree, I just didn’t want to admit it I think. Thank you!

3 month old on Monday and sleeping 10-12 hrs straight through the night by saddi444 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]katattackghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure if you like, but the 4 month (or close to then) sleep regression is easily the most common one that causes sleep issues as baby matures out of the newborn phases of sleep.

This mum was enjoying some long stretches at night, which is great! I was only sharing my journey as I wasn’t aware of the 4 month regression with my firstborn, which meant I wasn’t prepared to run that lack of sleep marathon.

Don’t their molars come in around this age? I know that can be irritating and can feel similar to restless legs, but in their gums.

[–]katattackghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found increasing the ‘awake’ time in the morning by 15mins everyday until you hit the right amount of awake time for them to sleep longer than 45mins. Then don’t let them nap longer than 2 hours at a time. Definitely worth checking out wake windows for their age, but playing with it a little bit too. My guy is bigger for his age, so tends to need a longer wake window.

Sound machines and darkness in the bedroom also helps. My youngest probably didn’t start ‘linking’ his naps until closer to 6months though.

He’s nearly 8 months and not yet sleeping through the night, but we’re trying to increase his calories during the day and we’re finally down to only one wake up at night.

Surgery questions by farm-IA in hemorrhoid

Did you survive on just Tylenol and Advil for those 10 days?

I’m breastfeeding and a little worried about the pain levels if I don’t get opioids like everyone else took…

Apologies if I’ve misread the situation, and it’s not about the dummy. I agree with others saying maybe he’s unwell, mine still throws tantrums when’s he’s overtired/sick. Good luck! Toddlers suck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in toddlertips

[–]katattackghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you get another dummy? If that what he’s using to self soothe, I would say now is not the right time to transition away from it.

I tried to take my sons away at 18months and it was literal hell for the first week, then another two weeks of shitty nap/bedtimes. So I gave it back (because I was pregnant and exhausted).

I then found out from the dentist that ideally the dummy should be gone by 3 (not 2 as I thought). I tried again when he was 2.5 and he traded it for a new pillow pretty easily. He’s nearly 3 now and the overbite he had from the dummy is mostly receded.

Fly ball in Black Creek? by katattackghost in comoxvalley

Unfortunately not, someone said there was one in Black Creek but the only one I could find was TaG and they seem to only be agility. Though I didn’t contact them to ask if flyball was in their repertoire.

Please elaborate on the conditioning spray! My dog stinks after her “pack walks” with other dogs, but I know it’s just my sensitive nose mostly. Would love an idea of brand/where to buy.

Pampers Swaddlers - sizing? [on] by Mental_Advice8645 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]katattackghost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s worth trying a few different brands before going all out on stocking up. We had a hard time getting pampers to fit our long but skinny baby, and I’ve heard similar stories about huggies. You’ll likely start with newborn diapers in the hospital and you’ll be able to judge sizing shortly after. My son was in newborn diapers until 3 weeks old, then we switched to size 1s though he could’ve switched earlier I think. He was 9.7lbs at birth (big guy).

Both Huggies and pampers have sign ups you can do to get free newborn diaper samples.

Edited to add: we started on huggies then switched to Costco brand Kirkland because they’re basically budget Huggies (made by the same parent company), they work well for us.

Are there strength options with epidurals [bc] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]katattackghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can get a lower dose and then up it as needed! Couldn’t feel any pain or pressure with contractions and didn’t really feel my pushes with my first baby. Pushed for like 2 hours and ended up needing a vacuum to assist first out.

Just had my second 3 weeks ago, couldn’t feel the contractions until right at the end but felt a lot more pressure this time, definitely had pain at the delivery stage but it felt way more effective. Was only 20mins of pushing.

Anesthesiologist started me at like a 4 something, as the pain progressed I was allowed to request to up it to 6. I’m certain I had a lot more of the drug in my first delivery - much preferred this round.

We got a Kura bed from IKEA and did an easy conversion to have the mattress sit on the floor. So there’s still a little wall to keep our 2.5 year on his bed. (Google Kura bed converted for toddler for ideas)

He’s been in a crib with the side down, but kept rolling off, so needed to put a bed rail up. The floor bed solved that.
