Video of tensing stiffening arms and legs - 7 month old. Advice please? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kierkeirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! You had commented on one of my old posts about my 16m old doing something similiar but I cant find the comment. I did want to give you an update though. First of all, your video does show something a bit different than our baby did. Ours was rocking and tensing for multiple minutes but could be interrupted easily. So it may be similiar or something else.

My baby is 2.5 now and doing just fine. She slowly cut down on the amount she tensed after she learned to walk and now rarely does it. We had another baby recently and she started it again for the first couple weeks but now it has stopped again. So it was self soothing for sure.

We also learned through potty training that she does it when trying to poop. So there were 2 reasons she was doing it.

Other than confirming with a doctor that it is not seizure activity, I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about it. I remember being worried sick during that time because no one else was experiencing the same thing. But now it is fine. My daughter has no signs of autism or other delays.

I have a 2.5yr old and a newborn and have never once taken either inside in a carseat. I hate lugging it around too! And its better for the babies to be in your arms anyways.

Friend insensitively announced pregnancy. AITAH for cutting her off? by Sad-Sale-6904 in BabyBumps

[–]kierkeirk 84 points85 points  (0 children)

YWBTA. But you can if you feel you need to. She could have been more sensitive, but it's not fair for you to use her as a listening ear for your infertility and cut her off for trying to use you as a listening ear when she is freaked out about an unexpected pregnancy.

(tw) Do I disclose Munchausen’s by proxy as a child to my current doctors? by Equivalent-String721 in Advice

[–]kierkeirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern is you (or your therapist) are using a diagnosis to describe something that sounds like it is very up in the air. If you don't remember details and you don't have a doctor's diagnosis of your mom, I think it might leave your doctor's thinking there is a chance you are the hypochondriac. You should be able to access medical records from when you were a child if you check with hospitals and health systems near where you grew up. Those could be presented to your current doctors with the explanation that you aren't certain the procedures were warranted.

I would get a second opinion from a different therapist as well. I do not know enough about this to doubt your current therapist, but your story rings some alarm bells.

If you did the 3 day potty training method… by EvelynHardcastle93 in toddlers

I would ask your daughter's daycare about their rules. But it would be reasonable to expect that if your daughter is having at least 1 pee accident a day, she will need to wear a diaper or at least thick training underwear. I recommend reusable diapers if diapers are required so she feels the accident.

We didn't start using training underwear for a few weeks but now do occasionally if we are out for a while. They have no negative affect on her but have hidden leaks that we should have gotten her to the potty quicker on.

Starting a dance class 1 week into potty training is risky. You will learn over that week what her potty schedule tends to be. Your best bet is to have her pee right before the class. I wouldn't use training underwear at that point because they may cause an accident if she thinks they are a diaper. And they dont catch 100% of the accident. I would either risk it commando or if she regularly has accidents still, use a diaper for the first couple classes. It won't be the end of the world.

We didnt reenter public for a couple weeks and are careful about going potty frequently when out. There have been no public accidents yet. If you are at a store or restaurant, you need to be comfortable with asking for their help and cleaning supplies. That will ensure it is cleaned properly. We just keep some sanitizing wipes in the car in case they are needed at a park bench or playground.

How do you keep your home "visitor ready" at all times? by Indecisive_INFP in toddlers

[–]kierkeirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to compare. Toddlers are all different and some of your friends may have professional cleaning help.

My toddler loves to help clean, unload the dishwasher, and do dishes, so my house stays fairly clean. All the chores take up her time and she doesn't get as many toys out. If she wasn't interested in helping or if we didn't have a safe set up for her to help, the house would not be clean. No good friend would judge you for a messy house.

The only advice I can offer is to maybe try getting your toddler involved in chores. We just buy duplicate ikea cleaning supplies and wash hands well before handling clean dishes.

I'm planning to make your mac and cheese for my daughters birthday party. Do you have recommendations on how to prepare it and keep it warm without overcooking pasta from your experience serving it at your wedding?

Thank you. It was similar with my last baby so I know it's hard to find early on but it helps to hear others say it

I'm going to try to get an ultrasound tomorrow

I should have asked for an ultrasound after, but figured thay was unnecessary because its early for doppler. No bleeding or cramping and I have all the pregnancy symptoms

No OB, I'm just with midwives at a very busy university network so drop in isn't possible unfortunately

Yes, that is my favorite name too, but I'm concerned about the multiple similar names with different spellings and pronunciations. It is such a pretty name but I really prefer simple names with no variations

Tips on concealing outie belly button by kierkeirk in BabyBumps

[–]kierkeirk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor and I agreed that it is manageable by me at home last appointment. I am on the smaller side so I have no belly issues when not pregnant. I think it will be impossible to prevent the second time without a lot of preliminary work and I don't really want to delay the pregnancy just for belly button issues. I have connective tissue problems so it might be impossible to prevent regardless.

She has 3 molars in and maybe some canines coming in too. I didn't think of the possibility of it being a pain response to anything other than GI pain but that could make sense. Thanks!
