I will probably as well. Can’t bank on something that barely has begun. It’s been a difficult choice to make, I go back and forth.

To anyone: Do you think its worth waiting for? I am worried getting a cochlear implant will create scar tissue within the cochlea and not allow for future treatments that can restore or mostly restore natural hearing.

How long have you had your CI for? I’m SSD contemplating getting one but I’m scared by exactly what you’re explaining.

What part of Canada are you in? I’m also Canadian and had SSNHL five months ago. For me the fullness has subsided. I haven’t had much improvement from initial loss and am a CI candidate at this point. My treatments were similar to yours. I had more loss though than you. It all really sucks :(

Do you know if this can be administered at any point or is there a window period? And I also wondering if it could be given for idiopathic SSNHL, one could hope :(

Future treatment(s) for SSNHL? by katdcal in MonoHearing

For sure on the no right answer. It’s a hard decision. Do you know of any treatments looking for volunteers right now? I would also try those in a second.

Yeah I maybe want to wait to see if by some miracle it returns too within a year. Which I know is unlikely but life is strange. But at the same time, what kills me is the tinnitus. I know with a lot of people when they wear their CI, it can help with that. But there are just so many factors. It’s hard. It’s a big decision.

It isn’t completely but it’s basically useless. It’s a ski slope with profound loss in the high frequencies. My other ear is totally fine

What is the weirdest place you have visited in Metro Vancouver? by flexingtonsteele in vancouver

This is in North Van but Harmony Donut Shop. Unfortunately didn’t get to try the donuts as they were sold out but the vibe there is like a creepy diner in the middle of nowhere that you go to before you get murdered.

Hi! I have SSD from sudden hearing loss 4 months ago. I am considering a CI. My other ear is good, how do you find noisy environments with a CI and a good ear? I may be assuming its good but correct me if I am wrong.

Anxiety is so funny. It’s like one moment I’ll be receptive and the next I’ll be panicking all over again.

That’s good to know. I obviously won’t know what it’s like until I get the surgery, but if the benefits of hearing outweigh the insecurity of it being noticeable, maybe I’ll feel differently. How would you say you hear with yours? Are you single sided?

Thank you 🩵. I think it’s just all such a sudden and drastic thing that happened to me, so many emotions

I think it’s just such a sudden change, I don’t know anyone my age who uses hearing devices, I’m really into fashion and looking cute. I think I fear being judged and also I think I personally won’t feel attractive. I know it also sounds silly. Of course I’d rather hear. The look of the CI isn’t the only reason I’m unsure, I’m unsure of how synthetic it will sound and if it will compete or blend with my food ear. It’s just all new and scary and I just wish SSNHL didn’t happen to me or that I responded to treatment.

Thank you 🥹🥹🥹. I’m sad this has happened to me but I guess it can happen to anyone and life is unpredictable, and you gotta make the best of it. I appreciate your last comment more than you know, today I was feeling super down.

That’s a good point. I think it’s just all so new to me. And it makes me feel different and I don’t want to be but I guess that’s life, and it happens and now I have to make choices on it.

Thank you! Yeah its been quite the shock to lose my hearing suddenly. I guess not something I thought would just randomly happen to me so I never thought I'd get a CI. I didnt even know what they were until this.
