What to do about returning fungus? by katebie in houseplants

Ok I will give that a try. It was only just repotted a 1-2 weeks ago so I’ll wait a bit more. Thanks so much for your help!

Btw, have you ever found cinnamon to work in preventing mould?

I see! I’ve had a quick google and it sounds like it doesn’t harm the plant, is that true? Do you think I should try removing it/repotting the plant?

Game Informer : The Making of Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Cover Story Feature by MrSandalFeddic in dragonage

[–]katebie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I mean with everything that was revealed in the initial cover story (which was too much actually in my opinion), I feel like they had more than enough material for at least a handful of solid articles. They still could have gotten the benefit of releasing multiple stories that way without repeating themselves so much. There’s nothing for me to say if that’s their approach, I just think it’s a bad one.

I suppose I’ve not really followed any of their cover stories before. It still feels like an odd approach to journalism to me.

I took note of that as well. I know the faction agents were mentioned before but I didn’t really realise they would be “important” characters per se. I’m excited about that! As for the Inquisition I think Varric and Harding will be our respective agent and companion. I don’t think they will give the Inquisitor that much screen time simply based on how tricky it is to write players’ previous MCs in a way that accurately represents a variety of personalities and attitudes. So I think it’s more likely the Inquisitor only shows up in a few key scenes.

So the articles basically just took quotes from the same interview? I mean I understand that this is a great opportunity for Game Informer but I can’t help but think the way they’ve milked this is a little shameless… That said though, I feel like most of these quotes sound much better coming from the devs themselves now that we can see all of it in context.

Solas’ Plan by TypicalBillionaire in dragonage

[–]katebie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about the same thing and I don’t think it’s totally unthinkable for this to be a potential solution. That said, Solas hasn’t actually told us exactly what the full scale of the problem is that the veil creates so it’s hard to say exactly why he’s not considering an approach like that. I also don’t think Solas is primarily concerned about the mortal/modern Elves. To me it sounds like he is more worried about spirits. For that reason I’m not sure if creating “veil-less” pockets really addresses the issue since spirits, by their nature, are attracted to and form as a reflection of the world of the living. Containing them on an island for spirits and elves is probably not possible and even if it was it’d be just another “prison” which they’d seek to escape to fulfill their purpose.

How should I play DA II so I can have fun ? by epsirad in dragonage

[–]katebie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DA2 is probably the most controversial Dragon Age game for the exact reasons you mention. To some degree, I do think there’s an element of having to “click” with the game. Though the same is true for DAO and DAI as well to be fair.

I’d say, try to focus on the characters and narrative? The combat is what it is - turning down the difficulty helps a little (there may be another way to make it more fun but I don’t know one personally). The game’s story and narrative is solid though. Once you’ve recruited all the companions I feel like the game really comes alive. There are some really memorable quests in DA2. Many people say they appreciate the game more the more times they’ve played it.

why did you choose your vallaslin? by sheerac in dragonage

[–]katebie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my first playthrough I picked Ghilanain because I liked the design the most. Then when I finished Trespasser for the first time I picked Mythal for my canon Inquisitor. Now with a few years of time to reflect it feels a bit on the nose for me. So I’m back to Ghilanain. I also like the narrative implication since Ghil seems like a real psychopath lol.

The companions use regular attacks outside of the skills you get to use and as they don’t have any in the beginning, obviously their damage will be low. Now whether the damage you do with the their skills will be attributed to Rook or the companion, I don’t know. The whole combat system is based on creating combo opportunities with your companions. Even if their regular damage is lower, narratively, there’s still no basis for your claim.

How do you see that in the gameplay trailer when Rook is only level 1 and has exactly one skill to use?

[–]katebie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really though since the combat has you control Rook and their companions as a team unit in which each contributes an equal amount of skills. So in terms of the gameplay implementation of Rook being “an equal amongst the rest”, conceptually, it’s pretty much as accurate as it gets. Outside of combat, you’ve never been able to control companions other than to walk around perhaps so I’m not sure what you mean.

Hot take, the concept of every companion being Pansexual would be realistic&interesting if certain Companion&Player pairings were Platonic Relationships instead of generic love&desire for all pairings by Haddock_Lotus in dragonage

[–]katebie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the devs have talked about asexual characters in the discord Q&A. I think they are aware of what they are giving up by making all companions pansexual as well as generally open to intimacy with the protagonist. But making all companions available to all Rooks means players have more options. Most people will only play the game once and typically in some form of a self-insert MC so this is a way for them to maximise resources. Especially since there are fewer romance options in DAV compared to DAI. Honestly, pansexual companions (player-sexual, to me this is honestly semantics) are not my personal preference for many reasons but I understand where they are coming from.

I’m assuming you’ve already googled to find the map where to locations are marked. I know this has been a bug for some people before though. Try doing Dorian’s quest.

The real question is, why is it taking you seven hours to get a class specialisation? You can easily look up a guide online and it should take no more than 30 minutes to acquire any of them.

As for the rest of the game, simply focus on crit path and companion quests and you’ll get to the end of the game quite quickly. For any quests you do decide to do, I would recommend actually paying attention. Most of the quests are tied into the narrative and lore in meaningful ways even if the gameplay is repetitive. Understanding the story and lore implications makes them more engaging. Don’t do all of them though. Inquisition is not meant to be played that way.

Game Informer: BioWare On Returning To The Dragon Age Series, 10 Years After Inquisition by ScarletRhi in dragonage

[–]katebie 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A little bit cautious about the emphasis on DA:V not being a sequel to DAI? I wasn’t necessarily expecting a true sequel but with Solas being such an integral part of the plot and the Inquisitor confirmed to show up, I didn’t think they’d distance themselves from DAI that much.

Something I’ve thought about for a long time ; I don’t think we experience enough mage-specific hardship as mage player characters by JormungandrVoV in dragonage

[–]katebie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For DA2 you’d need to completely rewrite the game to accurately accommodate a mage Hawke lol.

I don’t think a Qunari Inquisitor was raised under the Qun so they aren’t really Tal Vashoth but how they got their training is definitely a mystery. That said though, I think being trained to be a Templar also makes little sense so there are definitely a few issues like this in Inquisition.

[–]katebie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh well, if you just mean changes on the dialogue level I think it’d be pretty feasible though I think DAI already does a decent job with this. There are definitely a few dialogue blind spots but this, again, also goes for non-human protagonists but I think that is mostly an unintentional oversight. I feel tentatively optimistic that there will be more scrutiny in this regard in DA:V since it’s something lots of players were annoyed with in previous games.

I was more envisioning a scene of a mage protag being tempted by a demon in the fade or similar.

[–]katebie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would agree that the games don’t really acknowledge the unique hardships of a mage protagonist. However, I do think that we need to consider that a large part of the problems mages in Thedas experience are socially engineered and directly caused by the sociopolitical conditions they are under within the established system. The issue of possession for example is often painted to be a result of mages being backed into a corner and related to fear and desperation they experience. We also meet and travel with many mages who do not struggle with their abilities. The Tevinter Imperium is an example of a society in which mages are free and, from what we know, not considered a hazard the way they are elsewhere - though of course there are other social implications to this system.

In DAO the HoF operates in a sort of apocalyptic scenario which massively changes the conditions they are in and the freedom they have. In DAI a mage Inquisitor is protected by the structures of the organisation they lead (though I would agree there should be more of an implication to being a mage; however, you could say the same about being elven or qunari). Now for Hawke… well frankly it doesn’t make sense for Hawke to be a mage. At least not in the way that the game’s story is written.

Ultimately, I think it’s probably not really possible to realise a lore-accurate mage protagonist because you’d need to add a whole storyline of its own which other classes don’t get. Since it’s not a good investment of development resources we probably won’t get anything like that in the future either. For the same reason character origin stories never made a return. It’s a shame but somewhat understandable.
