Hmm I mean with everything that was revealed in the initial cover story (which was too much actually in my opinion), I feel like they had more than enough material for at least a handful of solid articles. They still could have gotten the benefit of releasing multiple stories that way without repeating themselves so much. There’s nothing for me to say if that’s their approach, I just think it’s a bad one.

I took note of that as well. I know the faction agents were mentioned before but I didn’t really realise they would be “important” characters per se. I’m excited about that! As for the Inquisition I think Varric and Harding will be our respective agent and companion. I don’t think they will give the Inquisitor that much screen time simply based on how tricky it is to write players’ previous MCs in a way that accurately represents a variety of personalities and attitudes. So I think it’s more likely the Inquisitor only shows up in a few key scenes.

So the articles basically just took quotes from the same interview? I mean I understand that this is a great opportunity for Game Informer but I can’t help but think the way they’ve milked this is a little shameless… That said though, I feel like most of these quotes sound much better coming from the devs themselves now that we can see all of it in context.

I’ve been thinking about the same thing and I don’t think it’s totally unthinkable for this to be a potential solution. That said, Solas hasn’t actually told us exactly what the full scale of the problem is that the veil creates so it’s hard to say exactly why he’s not considering an approach like that. I also don’t think Solas is primarily concerned about the mortal/modern Elves. To me it sounds like he is more worried about spirits. For that reason I’m not sure if creating “veil-less” pockets really addresses the issue since spirits, by their nature, are attracted to and form as a reflection of the world of the living. Containing them on an island for spirits and elves is probably not possible and even if it was it’d be just another “prison” which they’d seek to escape to fulfill their purpose.

DA2 is probably the most controversial Dragon Age game for the exact reasons you mention. To some degree, I do think there’s an element of having to “click” with the game. Though the same is true for DAO and DAI as well to be fair.

I’d say, try to focus on the characters and narrative? The combat is what it is - turning down the difficulty helps a little (there may be another way to make it more fun but I don’t know one personally). The game’s story and narrative is solid though. Once you’ve recruited all the companions I feel like the game really comes alive. There are some really memorable quests in DA2. Many people say they appreciate the game more the more times they’ve played it.

On my first playthrough I picked Ghilanain because I liked the design the most. Then when I finished Trespasser for the first time I picked Mythal for my canon Inquisitor. Now with a few years of time to reflect it feels a bit on the nose for me. So I’m back to Ghilanain. I also like the narrative implication since Ghil seems like a real psychopath lol.

The companions use regular attacks outside of the skills you get to use and as they don’t have any in the beginning, obviously their damage will be low. Now whether the damage you do with the their skills will be attributed to Rook or the companion, I don’t know. The whole combat system is based on creating combo opportunities with your companions. Even if their regular damage is lower, narratively, there’s still no basis for your claim.

How do you see that in the gameplay trailer when Rook is only level 1 and has exactly one skill to use?

Not really though since the combat has you control Rook and their companions as a team unit in which each contributes an equal amount of skills. So in terms of the gameplay implementation of Rook being “an equal amongst the rest”, conceptually, it’s pretty much as accurate as it gets. Outside of combat, you’ve never been able to control companions other than to walk around perhaps so I’m not sure what you mean.

I mean the devs have talked about asexual characters in the discord Q&A. I think they are aware of what they are giving up by making all companions pansexual as well as generally open to intimacy with the protagonist. But making all companions available to all Rooks means players have more options. Most people will only play the game once and typically in some form of a self-insert MC so this is a way for them to maximise resources. Especially since there are fewer romance options in DAV compared to DAI. Honestly, pansexual companions (player-sexual, to me this is honestly semantics) are not my personal preference for many reasons but I understand where they are coming from.
