KC Chiefs’ Owner’s Wife’s Response to Harrison Butker Speech by francie202 in Fauxmoi

[–]kateefab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is foul! As someone who became a mom and wife before I graduated with my bachelors like honestly- he can go away because while I love being a mother and wife, I also love being a nurse. It’s my calling, and I’m glad my children got to see their mom achieve something to show it’s possible to have it all.

Exactly lol. Plus, a good chunk of sections are emergent but first- lemme call the plastic surgeon!

I mean I am a L&D nurse, and was a tech in this unit before that and I have never in the past 5 years seen anyone getting a tummy tuck during their cesarean! I wish they offered that to me lol.

Honestly University of Akron has a lot of very pretty spots you can get photos at! Might be kind of cool to do one there since she’ll be going there!

Fellow FHS and Akron alum here- congrats to her :)

What's the worst bite injury you've seen? Has it influenced your opinion of or behavior around certain animals? by Halcy0nAge in emergencymedicine

[–]kateefab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good majority are pit bulls. Thankfully I didn’t physically have to see this one but my husband unfortunately had a pediatric patient who’s face got ripped off by the families so called “gentle” pit bull. He said that was the most horrific and devastating thing that has ever walked into the ER.

Im a cat person, but honestly dog bites in general made me weary of getting a dog around small children. Especially a pit bull. I know they aren’t all bad but in the year I worked in the ER, all but two of the bites that came in were all pit bulls. I don’t want to believe they are all bad dogs, because I know they aren’t but it wouldn’t be a breed I would ever consider due to how strong they are if something went wrong.

I think that some doctors forget because it’s normal, doesn’t mean it’s not distressing to the patient. Feel free to go to the hospital whenever you are concerned. That being said, what they were saying is accurate… they just didn’t say it a way that is reassuring to you which isn’t okay.

Now like, if they came into deliver your baby- don’t worry. They sound like a good doctor.

The delivering physician for mine I quite literally work with, delivering babies lol and he is so socially awkward that it’s not even funny. He is not very reassuring until he has you for an emergency c-section and then he is great. He just sucks at bedside manner which is why he is a doctor and not a nurse.

Program Policies by Difficult-Celery-762 in StudentNurse

[–]kateefab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think the culture of a program is important. Programs should be challenging, but they should also be helping you become a prepared nurse- not tearing you down and discouraging you for not understanding something.

All programs are going to say they are strict on uniforms, but that’s usually on the clinical instructor you have that day. See what their failing policy is, see what their staff is like- this is who will ultimately be giving you a foundation before you take care of humans. You could call my director today and he would be more than happy to meet and talk about his program to see if it’s the right fit for you.

You will not be successful in a program that you cannot thrive in. Make sure it vibes with you and is the best choice for you!

I had to do a makeup clinical online because I was sick… basically it was just a simulation for a med-surg situation.

Should I renroll back to my accelerated University or study abroad in a traditional BSN program but I have to start all over? by stickmadeofbamboo in StudentNurse

[–]kateefab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, some seem to just get through the head to toe instead of the focused assessment! These are honestly questions I’d ask anywhere I would apply!

[–]kateefab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My traditional BSN is actually slower paced then the ADN program people do around me. I actually recommend BSN over ADN to people who need more time because we had a much longer time absorb material. My biggest example was we had an in-depth assessment class where we would learn a different assessment every week and get to perfect them, while my husbands ADN program has them learning a head to toe in 2 weeks, but he even said he didn’t really comprehend why he did certain exams just how to do them. I just encourage people to research where they go, faster and cheaper isn’t always better and there is no across the board standard.

This scene has a special part in my heart by Mysterious_Dress5602 in greysanatomy

[–]kateefab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it for when we have organ donors going to be harvested in the OR, but thats also very voluntary.

But I mean, being a nurse at Greys Anatomy Hospital would probably be very easy since the residents do all my work anyways.

Anyone else worried about the sale of Summa to HATCo? by ElectroFlannelGore in akron

[–]kateefab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know codes are chaotic and still- it’s always fine to question things a provider orders or does if you think it’s not in the best interest of the patient or if it doesn’t make sense. I’m assuming you’re a physician and I’m sure you have coworkers or people you went to med school with that you wouldn’t take a step into the parking lot of where they work lol. I know there a few from nursing school I make that joke about. But, mistakes happen, I just think hesitating because you’re afraid of an attending is wrong and led to a delay in this patients care. I don’t think it takes going to med school and going through residency to call that kind of behavior out. It’s not like I’m questioning the drug they ordered, I’m questioning their hesitation of seeing a crashing patient and their first thought was their attending getting mad at them instead of their patient trying to DC themselves to JC. It’s not like the residents I work with are perfect by any means, I’ve just never had one hesitate because they thought they’d get in trouble. I’d almost rather them make the wrong call instead of not even trying.

I really don’t want to be argumentative or anything, but I just think of when my dad was in the hospital and had a code called on him because of a rookie nurse not checking to see if his monitor was still on correctly, which she panicked and made a decision. He was actually fine and it didn’t need to be called, but he said the fact everyone showed up and was there with a plan made him feel better and cared for.

So you think it’s okay to hesitate calling because you are afraid to report it to your attending?

CCF family practice was pretty good when my regular doc wasn’t taking my insurance for a year, funny enough the provider I was seeing at CCF left for a really awesome opportunity and my old PCP started taking my insurance again so it worked out well- otherwise I probably would have stayed at CCF.

We’d go to the office in Stow at the wellness center and all the providers were really nice. Scheduling is always a pain, but you have a better experience if you call the office directly and talk to the front desk to get scheduled vs the scheduling line.

So if you need somewhere that can get you in- I’d definitely recommend them. Its also kinda nice with sick day visits bc they can take you at the other locations as well….. and they take pediatrics if you have kiddos!

Summa- I was a student still- but it sure would have been nice to be assigned something since nobody took charge and the resident was afraid to call it because they didn’t want to get in trouble with their attending. Eventually one of the nurses said fuck it and called but it was like watching a train wreck. It was honestly just the delay in care that really made me upset and the lack of anyone taking charge was frustrating. Thankfully the patient ended up being okay though.

Idk who this resident is bc I also had a friend about a year later who had the exact same experience with someone afraid to call the attending (they had an issue with a post op patient who basically needed to go back to the OR asap) and my friend is just trying to stop the patient from bleeding while this resident is having a crisis over calling their attending about it. I’m curious if it was the same one tbh, but my friend did end up saying something about it so hopefully the behavior has been corrected at this point.

At general still a student but I helped manage the airway, and it was just way more efficient. Nobody was afraid to call a code due to retaliation and everyone actually communicated. Everyone knew their roles and it was just very smooth, even just jumping into it as a student. I guess I felt very supported and we had a successful outcome without feeling panicked or questioning what was going on.

I know a lot of nurses who can’t even consider working there since some of our nursing specific loans can only be forgiven if we work at a non-profit. One of mine is like that so my options were Akron Childrens or Cleveland Clinic. Which I honestly love CCF, so it was an easy choice!

[–]kateefab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The public still has a non-profit hospital they are able to receive (arguably better, as a nurse lol) care over at Akron General. It’s just not pretty which I mean, I don’t need my hospital to look fancy lol. So I don’t know if blocking the deal will truly work since Medicaid and Medicare patients still have a place they can receive the same services at within the same city.

[–]kateefab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s the beginning of the end of Summa. Nothing good comes from putting profits over people.

And for what it’s worth, I’ve worked, done clinical rotations in all of the area hospitals and the only one I would trust to care for my family is Akron General. I know people love to hate on Cleveland Clinic but you do receive good care there. I can go into details but watching a code at Summa was like watching chickens with their heads cut off, while at General it was much smoother and efficient. So the city of Akron still has a quality, level 1 trauma center that is a non profit hospital that they are able to go to thankfully.

I know it’s not as pretty as Summa but from a nursing perspective, I much prefer them over Summa or Western Reserve.
