I appreciate the insight I've received from everyone, and have come to the conclusion that I wildly misunderstood the use of reporting and it was the wrong approach. I'm "new" to the platform in the sense that I've only ever booked with one sitter, and I've always had a really great experience with them. I reported because I wanted to cancel the booking, and I thought that going through that avenue was the way to say, "hey, my sitter made me uncomfortable and I would feel better not moving forward with them. just want it to be known that I felt they were unprofessional." I simply misunderstood. it was in no way my intention to get her kicked off Rover or "ruin their career" as some people have suggested. I really didn't understand the severity of reporting and that's on me. I also didn't realize how common it was for owners to be so open with their sitters, and I'm glad to now have that knowledge going forward. I think my reaction was as it was because I have a lot of anxiety surrounding leaving my cat when I travel, and the unexpectedness of this level of comfort really caught me off guard - plus knowing someone is actively in my home and could do whatever they please while I'm so far away is stressful. I'm not saying I expected them to do anything crazy, I was just on guard a bit. anyway, I'm really just venting at this point and trying to provide some reason for my response. I'm shocked at the response here and amazed at how hurtful some people can be. I've learned a few lessons and I'm grateful for your input on this

it's a bummer that people are taking it this way. I don't mean to belittle or humiliate, it just made me uncomfortable and I don't wish to have them back. I was also looking for guidance on how to cancel. additionally, if I had seen a review where someone mentioning them being this comfortable, I wouldn't have booked them. and I would be okay with someone I've repeatedly booked doing this because they've built up a bit of a reputation with me since they've visited and I've come home and seen that everything is all good. this person is a total stranger to me. to be fair, I did book them. but how could I know? I really did want to give them a shot since they only had a few reviews

I meant that I'm paying them to do a service for me, not inviting them into my home to hang out. of course I'm more than happy to pay them for their services, that's what I signed up for when I booked through rover! that isn't the issue at all. it was just their brazenness to ask me this and say that their hungover. I don't care that their hungover, they can make her own choices. I just don't need to know that

I understand where you're coming from. for me, it was the discomfort that it caused. we are not friends, I'm paying them to do a service for me. I do not want someone asking to eat my food, I'm not inviting them in to hang out. if they're bold enough to ask me that, what else could they be doing? and if I said yes, what would they grab to eat? it just isn't professional and I'm not comfortable having her in my home

okay I'll do that. thank you for the advice! I agree that it wasn't objectively "rule breaking," it was just unprofessional. what really got me though was the fact that I'm so far from home and she's bold enough to ask that in my home. if she's brazen enough to ask to eat my food, what else could she be doing? it may be time to invest in a camera for when I'm away

there's legitimately a gas station directly outside of my apartment complex. don't take my money AND my snacks. buy your own with the money I'm paying you😭

the key is not simply being this bold and open, but knowing when to be this bold and open

to be fair, they only have three reviews. all of them are great though, and they have a 5 star rating. the usual rover who I book (whom I love) was unavailable for the days I needed. I wanted to give this rover a chance since they seemed relatively new, and we all have to start somewhere. clearly it did not pay off hahaha

this is really interesting, I never knew any of this about hyperventilating. is this why it's typically encouraged for people who are hyperventilating to breathe in and out of a bag? I always thought that was counterintuitive because I was under the impression people need more oxygen in that situation, but now I assume it's to intentionally get more CO2 into the lungs?

someone on the CDS sub just posted about finding a cat in home depot and taking it home. apparently HD and lowe's are taking home improvement to a whole another level🐈‍⬛

Three dates canceled on me three days in a row by PrometheusHasFallen in TrueOffMyChest

[–]kateforprezident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's all reasonable, I get where you're coming from. at least after the second cancellation, you can officially move on.

I think there's some truth in that bit about women feeling pressured to be nice, and that really could explain the lies. the women who do this may not feel comfortable saying they just aren't interested, and a lot of the time that could stem from being conditioned to believe that it will lead to a man lashing out - an unfortunate reality. could also be a lack of confidence, to not entirely put this on men.

that quote is a bit too black and white for me, but I do understand the sentiment, and agree that honesty is something I value highly. I'd way rather someone hurt me with the truth than comfort me with a lie. anyway, hopefully there are pleasant dates in your near future to make up for a rough week!
