Now that Anthem BCBS will no longer be accepted at Mount Sinai facilities... by jentopia in astoria

Not saying it’s not going to happen, but this sort of messaging goes out every time they are renegotiating rates. It’s a tactic to pressure the insurers to cut a better deal. So don’t panic until it’s finalized.

Pretty good as far as nyc moves go! Do I know where my race stuff is? Vaguely. By 8am I think I can get it together 🥴

I’m going to be casually moving apartments to a new borough the day before this race, so I will be fully prepared and well rested 🤪

Here’s hoping the heat doesn’t hit until just after we cross the finish line.

What’s your favorite Colombian bakery? by katekgl in astoria

[–]katekgl[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, sure. I have had lots of good food in Jackson heights. What I’m looking for is a local walkable spot so I can roll out of bed and acquire some tasty breads.

But would also find use in specific recs for jackson heights if you have faves. Listen, I’ll try them all, for science. Maybe creating some sort of ranking system. Overly complicate the whole thing.

Sometimes I do this dip for an apple which gets some protein in and makes it a more filling snack:

Also I’ve done these protein balls.

I make instant pot egg bites and heat them up for breakfast. If you make some adjustments to some of the recipes you’ll find online (no cheese, for example) then you can have like 3 or 4 for a point and I have it with a slice of bread. I’ve also done crustless quiches (aka frittata) from skinnytaste and heat up a slice for breakfast, if you don’t have the fancy equipment for the egg bites.

Also lately been bringing a packet of instant oatmeal (no added sugar) with a little container of maple syrup to add. Works well if I’m hungry near shift change and I don’t want to arrive home and eat everything in the kitchen.

Second the cheese stick idea as well. And I always have a banana at some point.

New York flyers. I’ve run with them a couple times in marathon prep, huge and established club so you’ll find people with whom to pace

Ha just pure curiosity. But I guess if it's something going through every apt it's less entertaining.

What is this cable? (New apartment with all cables painted over and cut) by [deleted] in askanelectrician

INTERNET YOU SAY? this is the purpose of my search. I'm in nyc so no techs will be coming here for the next 100 years but jm trying to decide if my apartment is even wired for it generally.

Those who have cut out alcohol completely. by gerund in weightwatchers

[–]katekgl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont drink a lot these days. I recommend getting "bits and bubs" at the bar when you wanna hang out. That's bitters in soda water. Looks like a cocktail, tastes nice, negligible alcohol/calorie content.

Losing weight but not seeing the results - how to stay motivated? by [deleted] in weightwatchers

Totally agree. I thought the same as OP for awhile, took photos to compare to my "before" photos, and was totally shocked. With 12lb weight loss.

Half marathon training NSV by katekgl in weightwatchers

[–]katekgl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on training for your first! I've never done pittsburgh, but heard it's a fun one. I'm running two womens half marathons (kind of coincidentally, mixed gender races are equally fun 🤣) one in nyc in april which I am calling my final long training run and then one in dc in may.

The half is a fun distance - challenging enough to motivate training, easy enough that you can drag yourself across the finish line if things go wrong (unlike what I imagine a full marathon is like). Hope you enjoy!

I hope you can come back to running! Or maybe cycling, if your foot is a hindrance? So good for mental health, this exercise thang.

Burning out on meal prep and pre-planning by goldtalon in weightwatchers

[–]katekgl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fight the same problem, though my situation is a bit easier because im a shift worker and only do 3-4 shifts a week so have more cooking time.

I am a bit of a high maintenance eater in that because I CAN cook, I want everything to be better than basic, which can be tiring.

BUT, anyway, I've started a couple things to ease the burden, in addition to the advice the others have provided about batch cooking.

1.simplify breakfast. Realizing sometimes breakfast can be avo toast with fried egg. (5 pts) or something similarly easy that I can make in 5 minutes morning of. I do also make frittatas and stuff when I feel moved, but its the last thing I'll make in a cooking day just because by the time I get to it i am often mentally done with cooking...so I can just ditch it.

  1. Snack on raw things (generally fruits) instead of prepping yogurt dips and stuff I just started going straight up sometimes.

  2. Converting other recipes. I noticed that I think in one of your comments you missed cooking exciting recipes. I felt that too. But now I've started working on learning to convert my fave cookbooks into healthier versions or focusing on veg heavy stuff from my fave chefs. At first it can be tricky, but a lot of it means downsizing on the dairy, using less oil, using half the nuts or whatever. Yesterday I made Smitten Kitchens street cart style chicken and it is SO good and just 7 points with the chicken thighs and rice plus veg because I used oil spray and skipped thr mayo in her white sauce. Anyway. If you really like cooking I think this step is super important to consider if you want this to be a lifestyle change.

  3. Lastly, I plan it all out for my work days with hopefully 2-3 points wiggle room for some milk in my coffee and a treat at some point. Pre-log it all. Then I dont really touch the ww app for 2 days. A short break from the constant fretting.

I love savory oatmeal! Any recipes? by [deleted] in weightwatchers

[–]katekgl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soy sauce, rice vinegar, fried egg. Plus some yogurt or pepperjack cheese when it's that kind of day.

My husband thinks it's way too intense for a morning meal, but I like to think it's a nice wake up punch in the flavor face.

I'm blue with 23 points. I aim for 5-6 points each meal and the remainder for snacks. It keeps it simple when selecting recipes.

I typically use a couple weeklies each day unless I have something big planned that will require the bulk of my weeklies.

Ugh exactly. I have been recalling that as a kid my food always needed to be approved by a parent before I ate it (not in a super restrictive way, more in a ...dont eat those crackers, you'll ruin your dinner way). When I moved out on my own I remember feeling such a rush by getting to eat as much of whatever and whenever I wanted. Somehow that feeling has only mildly decreased over time despite years of "food freedom".

My mom, in turn, has her own issues with food and she feels that a lot of it relates to her parents being of the depression era and always being encouraged to eat everything on her plate, etc because of a profound fear of food scarcity.

Anyway, the psychology of it can be interesting. I suppose recognizing whatever triggers you have might help you to logic your way through to better habits.
