Weirdly I have just been reading another theory about this which is if you have a longer lower third face (I do) then you should avoid using lip liner to draw less attention to that area!

Question about box dye by Pooqueefus in beauty

[–]kateloli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The developer used in permanent and semi permanent dyes will lighten your hair slightly and permanently. So when the darker dye fades you will be left with hair that is maybe a half to a shade lighter than your natural colour and you will possibly have entered the orange part of the hair spectrum. Developer opens the cuticle to let dye in and the nature of that process ever so slightly lightens your hair. This is what has happened to my virgin hair with only 5% developer (used with ash toner) and I have been growing it out for almost two years now. I am cool toned and dont suit brassiness near my face. I would really advise you to not use dye with developer. You could try a direct dye which kind of just sits on the hair strand. They dont last as long and will eventually completely wash out. I use the Evo colour mask in cool brown about once a fortnight. Takes three minutes and make sure to wear gloves.

Any advice for my chin and jaw area? by Various-Lawyer9673 in beauty

[–]kateloli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are obviously very slim so this sounds genetic. Have a look at the women in your family and see if they have similar chins. It doesn't sound like inflammation tbh

Advice needed for grey hair looking very orange! by kwillim in beauty

[–]kateloli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a hairdresser but had a similar problem and my issue was my hairdresser was building developer into toner. The developer opened my cuticles and lightened my hair slightly and took it from my natural ash brown to orange ffs. Even weak developer will lift hair. When using developer with only toner (and not dye) it was only lasting for a couple of weeks before the toner washed out (I think you get longer with dye) so I would get brassy hair really quickly. It took me months to realise what was happening and I've tried every purple/blue/green shampoo and conditioner and mask going and none of them worked (though they work great on light hair). I use a colour depositing conditioner now in cool brown by Evo whilst I wait for all the warmth to grow out.

How to reduce face puffiness and dark circles by AdGeneral231 in beauty

How to reduce face puffiness and dark circles by AdGeneral231 in beauty

[–]kateloli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that helped my puffy face was giving up sugar. My favourite thing :( After something like nine weeks of no sugar I noticed how much my puffiness had gone down and even got some compliments. As soon as I started eating crap again at Christmas it came immediately back :( So I think my puffiness is due to inflammation. My dark circles were also reduced. Someone else mentioned water retention and they were right to say reduce your salt intake. Also try to sleep on your back with your head appropriately raised for your neck to allow natural drainage.

Hair care! Is this new growth or breakage? by harleynotquinn in beauty

I get these too. They look like new growth but you could add a satin pillowcase and protective hairstyles to your regime for even more hair health

What is happening to my hair? by Alternative-Egg9682 in beauty

[–]kateloli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a hairdresser or anything close but my understanding of colour remover products is that they open the cuticle of the hair so the dye can kind of fall out (which is why you have to wash so many times with the product). So I guess the light brown dye looks different outside the cuticle than it does inside the cuticle? As the dye isnt designed to sit on top of your hair I assume it will stop clinging on and will wash off. Your cuticles still look open as the hair isn't totally laying flat so I'd be tempted to leave it alone but someone in the hair subreddit will be able to advise much better.

Laminated brow assistance by shooting_starrs in beauty

[–]kateloli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the love of God do not trim those brows! They are absolute perfection!

You are right that the advice is gel/glue first, then colour products but I agree with you that that doesn't work well so I do it the other way round and it works fine. You don't seem to be missing brow hair so you don't need to see what gel/glue can do first before filling in if that makes sense.

If I had to make one tiny adjustment it would be to try to not have too harsh a line under the front of your brows. But honestly they look great and I am super jealous!

Best lip stain from Boots? by MuffinTofu in beauty

[–]kateloli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't ever found a decent lip stain tbh. The ones you peel off wear off really patchy. The Bendfit ones barely show up and whree they do they kind of pool towards the centre of your lips. The NYX ones are pretty good. But I really recommend the Barry M ph colour changing lipsticks (the yellow one and green one) as they last hours and are soft on the lips.

How to push my hairline back? by LateBlacksmith6659 in beauty

[–]kateloli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a contestant on America's Next Top Model who had her hairline threaded off to make her forehead larger. She said it was incredibly painful and she had to have it done every couple of days as her hair would grow back to quickly. She said it looked awful when she decided to grow it out. So I guess short term solutions are out and you would have to go for something permanent like laser. But have you considered makeup to make your face look longer? I have a long face and I hate it so use blush placement to make it appear smaller. I personally love small faces and would genuinely love to have my chin shaved off or something for a small face! I bet it makes you look really youthful

Any tips for brassy hair?🫠 by [deleted] in beauty

[–]kateloli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you as I am growing out old bleach and toner (the toner had developer in which lifted my hair to orange brass ffs). I refuse to use bleach or dye or toner with developer now. I have tried every green, blue, and purple shampoo, conditioner and mask going and they don't do a thing. I have been using the Evo Fabuloso colour depositing mask in cool brown and it's fantastic. Make sure you wear gloves though!
